I'm not with this story, to be honest. A character who is introduced and killed off, to have achieved the feat of being in some measure responsible for Batman and Joker being the great characters that they are, really reeks of Gary Stu writer OC to me.
It is a bit of a slap in the face to introduce a character and kill him in the same story ...same as "the designer"...

It's not an episode. It's a segment of the movie that came out 17 years before the TV series. The film was made by Amicus Productions. Both used the EC Horror comics as source material and this segment was re-adapted into an episode of the show, along with other segments in the film.
