I ride by the tacho, so it would not be a deal killer with no tacho, but I would have to fit one. Thumpers don't scream like multicylinders do, so it is hard to tell when your near the max of revs, hence the tacho. I like the KLR, I may get one sometime, though my 411cc Himalayan, is Ideal at the moment.

I purchased a used one back in 2007 as my first bike it was beastly. I sold it after a year of riding seeing it was way more bike than I needed.

The chief problem with the retro bikes is weight. The biggest offender is the morbidly obese Mahindra (470 lbs) that pretends to be a BSA Gold Star. If the builders of the retros want to capture the spirit of the originals they most keep their bike's weight at ca. 400 lbs.
