    • @1964FordMustang
      @1964FordMustang 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would say, it depends on the condition of the car (fully restored to as original as possible or just plain and preserved like a time capsule). It also depends on the market place. In the US, prices are probably between 40 and 60K but here in Switzerland, where I live, they are more likely between 60 and 80K. Mine is currently insured for 90K. Early Fastbacks are more valuable because more rare and early K-Codes anyway. But always be careful, there are so many fakes and poorly restored cars on the market. Get advice from a professional workshop and check the papers and proof of history of the car. The more papers and documents the better. If everything is like that, so maybe in 5 years you make a 15-20% increase of value. But always and certainly, if it is a proper and genuine car with papers, there is certainly no loss of value like with other cars. The early Mustang is an icon of automotive history, But one of the most commonly counterfeited.

    Ahh, I made some comments in one of your other videos about the carpet not covering the sill plate before seeing this, you mentioned it here, bravo. The gas pedal pad I never knew as well as the striker plates on the door for the courtesy light switch, those two are new to me. Everyone knows of unit 00001, the convertible that the pilot got and then later returned to FORD, but when you have the chance, look up unit 00002. Its a U code inline 6 with manual transmission, coupe in Caspian blue that still exists. It was sold and spent most of its life in northern Canada before being found and restored. Its is a pre-production car, featuring a Fairlane shifter and Ranchero rear axle, its a nice one.

    In addition to the color keyed lock knobs ("65" and later were smaller and chrome no matter the interior color), the window felt molding was also different. The molding for "64 1/2" had black beading as part of the molding where "65" and later had the bright metal beading as part of the molding. Also, and this was only for the coupe body style, the carpet stopped short of the door sill and did not go over the sill and under the bright metal sill plate. The carpet did not cover that part of the floor that was vertical under the door, but was covered with a vinyl strip matching the interior color as well as the carpet having only a heel pad as opposed to the heel and toe pad of the later carpets. My "65" coupe had the carpet that went up and under the sill plate, but upon restoration when we removed the carpet, surprise, vinyl red colored strips were glued to the floor under the door hidden by the carpet, this car had an Early August build date out of the Dearborn plant. As far as the trunk, in addition to the carriage bolt and slot for the spare hold down, "64 1/2" often had a "burtex" mat instead of the vinyl mat of "65" and later. Early on, there were vinyl seat with cloth inserts option available, uncommon to find today. The radio being different I never knew, but the fuse block on "64 1/2" was different than on "65" if I remember correctly. Sorry, but I have been a fan of these cars since the age of 10, and I am 55 now, information from all the books and cars you see tend to build up in the brain. Big thanks for the video series.

    Its important to note that FORD titled all Mustangs up to the 1966 model year as 1965, therefore all have a 5 as the first number of the VIN. The 1964 1/2 label was shown on some early FORD advertising due to the car being released in April of 1964 as opposed to later in the summer or fall as usual. There are actually more differences between "64 1/2" and "65" than there are between "65" and "66", but due to the grill style, side ornamentation, wheel covers and the like, there appears to be more differences between "65" and "66". Due to different plants using up different components as production went, and FORD running all 3 plants for 3 shifts to try to fill demand, there are often mixes of some parts of "64 1/2" and "65" when the lines were switching over. The only real concrete difference between the two was the electrical system which changed from a generator "GEN" to an alternator "ALT" charging system. This also was the reason for the battery vents as well as the bigger dual horns used for "64 1/2". That is taking for granted that any one car in question had not had its charging system changed at some point in time. I used to own a "65" coupe that had an assembly date close to the cross over. It was a alternator charging system car, but had the "64 1/2" wipers and pivots, air fan switch had the off position in the middle, had the clip on door handles and window cranks, and the spare tire hold down used the earlier carriage style bolt and slot as opposed to the hook and loop style of later. It also had the early 13 inch wheels, no backup lights, but did have the cable attaching the gas cap to the body. This was a great video, and I am now off to watch your others to see what else you find between "64 1/2" and "65", cheers.

    The beveled headlight extensions are not an absolute guarantee that it is a 64 1/2. they seem to have been used sporadically during the production run. Possibly due to different suppliers of the parts. Mustang serial # 1 at the Henry Ford Museum actually has the later non beveled headlight extensions on it.

      Thanks, good to know and absolutely possible. Therefore not a single characteristic alone verifies a real 1964 1/2; several distinguishing features must be present, including the correct VIN number. Including some papers documenting the origin of the car would of course be the best of the best. And even without all this stuff you can have wonderful fun with any classic Mustang. Just don’t pay a premium for something which is not true and verified.

    Excellent series if videos, thank you. I took possession (from a family member) of what was THOUGHT to be a 1964 1/2 Mustang Convertible a number of years ago. It isn't, rather a 1965. Nothing matches up including the Dearborn production numbers, the biggest clue of course. Again, thank you for the very informative videos, well done.

      I hope I didn't unsettle you too much with these videos. The main thing is that you have fun with your classic car, regardless of whether everything is up to date and time correct. Most important driving safely and without accident. Thank you very much for your compliment.

    People still won't believe that Ford manufactured Mustang in mid-1964. They did😂

      That's what they did indeed. Thanks for your comment.

      Thank you - it is prairie bronze; a color rather popular in the Sixties but not so much today; but I like it (very natural, warm and lovely)
