The Magic of Sterling
Sterling Dietz, whose performances are billed as "The Magic of Sterling," is hands down my most favorite magician -- so it was a great source of delight for me that he returned to the Skagit County Fair in 2024 after a few years absence (Sterling spends nine months of the year as a "magician in residence" in Cabo, Mexico).
What I love about Sterling's performances is not only his Vegas-calibre showmanship and his skills as an illusionist and sleight of hand artistry, but also the humor and uplifting messages that he weaves into the stories he tells through his routines. His ability to inspire the young and young of heart by encouraging them to believe in themselves and their dreams is as much a part of his magic as his feats of prestidigitation.

"All My Relations" powwow Grand Entry

This video is from the 2023 "All My Relations" powwow at Skagit Valley College. Each powwow session is opened with a grand entry. The American flag, state flag, an Eagle feather staff (the Indian flag) and sometimes a Canadian flag (if the powwow is near the border) are carried into the powwow arena in front of the dancers. Note that the MIA/POW flag is included as well.
The Kristin Loffer Theiss Art Pop-Up

Kristin Theiss and her husband Chris are Skagit Valley artists whose creative output spans an amazing gamut ranging from thread drawings to ceramics, painting, and fabrics. Their works are currently on display at an art pop-up on Kincaid Street in Mount Vernon.

The are any number of places in downtown Mount Vernon, WA where you can encounter some great local art. The Skagit Valley Food Co-op, Ristretto Coffee Lounge & Wine Bar, and the Lincoln Theatre are among the venues you that come to mind. Great vidio, like the modules. On my Yard layout the modules are 9'6" long by 24" wide running around the fence , modeled in 0 gauge so starting to add a bit of 0n30 to the layout soon.Thanks for the morning coffee...
