The slug doesn't just have Concrete slabs under the hood for weight there is a lot more you missed that's under the hood that you never explained, Young Kids thinking they know all, think what you're talking about, if you have No clue don't say anything you don't need to act like you know all. I used MT-4 and MT-6 for over 19yrs by Conrail and Yeah, they have 2 Big Slabs of Concrete under the Hood BUT!!!!! they also have an Air Compressor Water Tank Sand Storage as well as Electronics reasons for the side panel on hood need a Fuse box. You wouldn't know this until now I say but what Keeps the Traction Motors on the Slug from OVERHEATING !???! What did you think keeps the Traction Motors from NOT burning up, Miss something yeah you did, Reasons why there are grates on the side of the Hood excess exhaust from the Traction Motors bleed-off. Coolant unit used to keep Traction Motors cooled off when under power which is a Big unit to super chill air into the Traction Box of Traction Motors. Plus the fact slugs need alternator power in order to use Headlights Beacons or Marker Lights as well as Sand release. Reason why the Slug Hood is Shorter than a typical Mother unit isn't because of the loss of Engine it's so the Engineer can see over the Slug when running the Slug-set from the Cab view. Mother unit is what Us Real Life railroaders call Powered Units for a Slug-Set. Yard Slugs do have More Traction Effort than Road Slugs I will say. Road Slugs travel faster as where Yard Slugs are geared down lower making speed top off at 15mph means more Traction Effort for Push Pulling. in derail valley there is no "running" position on the non self lapping automatic brakes. in derail valley any locomotive that has a "non self lapping automatic brake" doesn't have "running" instead You have four positions. You have "release" "lap" "service" and "emergency". "release" means You are connecting the main reservoir to the brake pipe to release the air brakes on the entire train. next You have "lap" lap holds whatever pressure You've got on the brake pipe so when You make a reduction on the automatic brake and You hold it to "lap" it will hold that reduction and it won't change anything. "service" means taking a reduction on the automatic brake whether You want to slow down or stop the train and once You make a reduction You can then apply the automatic brake into "lap" . "emergency" emergency unlike service however quickly dynamites the train by causing the brake pipe to go to 0 psi which causes the air to be dumped into the brake cylinders to then lock the brake shoes onto the wheels as tight as possible

I hope we'll get something like the DR Class 250 or DB Class E 410, or DB Class 210 in the future.

I just got one a day ago and it became my favorite so far immediatly. I live in germany, so i often see them irl, and they are some of my favourite Trains in real life too. In derail valley, it drives way better that the 3 de2's that i drove before and i love the wood on the brakes and the lot of space that it gives for putting your map and radio and stuff down. Its definetly worth it way more than the de3 for beginners.

Alright, so... - just buy the big hopper for Bryson coal hopper - Appalachian hardwood is going to be a daily thing of swapping out empty and full boxcar, and occasionally the coal hopper. - you might want to think about investing into an engine to live at Bryson because it's gonna eventually turn into a interchange yard for the area. I don't really have anything else. I've only made it to the Alarka proper. I only have the side contacts active there and not the Copper mine which is the main focus of there. Which could turn into an ordeal if it's anything like the Coal contact by Alarka Jct. And I haven't played it a small bit because I've been busy... and Hardspace Shipbreaker was burning my soul asunder. On an unrelated note I can not recommend that game enough, and fill comment sections with rambling like this. At the very least check out the soundtrack, because it's just more Americana tracks like what you've been using

27:00 Dynamic Brakes work by using the electricity from the traction motors which causes the traction motors to rotate in a different direction or They are slower. then the electricity goes to the "Dynamic Brake resistor banks" at this point the electricity from the traction motors is then converted into heat and They can emit a bright red glow causing resistance which causes the train to slow down which is what happens when the train Engineer Applies the dynamic Brake

Only thing i can really add to this episode is that - cars are counted as "spotted" as long as a wheel is in the highlighted area. -Stenzel Mfg usually will have 3 cars spotted at a time. You'll always have a boxcar of metal supply [imput] and and empty that will fill up with machine parts [output]. You sometimes have to really jam them in there to fit sometimes tho. Also Whitteir is apparently on a very slight NE (toward Ela) downward grade so make sure to tie handbrake on a bottled air consist or else you might start doing some swiching look away for a moment to deal with something elsewhere and suddenly your express train is yelling at you saying its lookin at another train, come back to Whitteir to find your 14 cars missing from the side track and have rolled halfway to Ela and smacked face first into the shiny new express engine and coaches... not speaking from experience or anything...

But the de2 is closer in performance to a track mobile

I've never Given Myself a harder Facepalm when He called the "expansion link" a "banana piece" and the fact that He literally called the water "sight glass" a "water gauge" also one thing He forgot to mention There's a small lever to control the sand for the locomotive which You can use if the loco experiences any wheelslip. It's underneath the throttle

After starting a new contract you have to wait like 3 days before you can upgrade your tier level Bryson has 3 new contract you can have and 2 different house tracks to worry about The Heating Oil contract is pretty easy on higher tiers because it really slow at consuming from the tank car The sawmill is going to consume more logs at higher teirs level contracts and produce more too. But you have to balance out between how much is consumed by how much Connolly creek produces. Tier 3 contracts give you a timely bonus of like 1-3 dollars for delivering cars from the interchange. But money is money When Bryson becomes available you also get to unlock the CTC controls milestone for your railroad.

If you are going downhill and not using any steam, you can let the furnace flame out to save fuel and water.

The new Diesel Electric feel is really nice. You Can now economically use Two DE2 with a Slug In-between. I keep one of the DE2s Diesel Engine off, but with TM breaker on, Works Real nice with the slug, When I need extra tractive effort, just turn the other DE2 on. The Slug has to be in-between the two. Haven't Tried it with the DE6 Yet. will try it today.

Buying the Sylva line moves the interchange to the east. All the line expansions to the west are 3 stage operations. If you continue using Whittier for the interchange, you don't have as far a distance to cover for the west expansions. I suggest you buy Sylva last.

Few things to keep in mind - the AI engineer will announce when fuel is at 20% - reputation lossed from a derailment take a while to rebuild back. - Ela bridge milestone has 3 phases. Each phase cost $750. (At >100% reputation price) - if you buy the track rights towards Sylvia your interchange is moved to the end of the line there. - the log train loads fully in 1 hr. So you can park your train in the siding and use the wait function next to the sleep.

Used the slug with de2 from the start, 2nd or 3rd purchase i made. Could really bury the throttle with out much worry of overheating, until i hooked a second de2 to the other end. Went to double dh4s and can pull alot more than the de2s w/slug. But starting out the combo made some good starting cash.

$115,021.00 before adding the time bonus from those jobs. Your total at that point is $367,052.81, which is a LOT of money. The time bonus may raise it a little bit, it may raise it to a more medium tier, but it may also raise it a LOT.

Good explanation for somebody who's obviously not experienced with real locomotives. Im nts how well this game/sim (im thinking of buying it to try in vr, my standards are high as i want full sim because I'm well familiar with operating actual locomotives) models its fire management but you could potentially expand further on how to actually manage steam and water levels by using damper and firehole door. As far as boiler explosions, if you run out of water it will not explode, it should drop a plug, the cardinal sin of any fireman. Overpressure explosion should be theoretically impossible without tampering with safety valves, as far as what it would actually take to explode a "modern" boiler, its probably something like 10-20 times operating pressure assuming boiler is in good condition. In the old days they did explode a bit, but they were iron(or even copper in some cases) vs steel boilers and the driver/fireman often tampered with the safety valves to try to get extra performance. I only know laws in my country (Australia) but boilers being operated outside of private operations are regularly hydrostatically tested, often to double working pressure, i imagine most developed countries have similar rules.

Is there a way how to get to neutral rpm like with manual transmission car? I'm worried about blowing the engine up while going downhill fast. It feels unnatural to me to shift up when going downhill.

If you are looking for a suggestion, a fun video might be to get up early in the morning and hop into a DE2 at the Harbor for a completely daylight trip. Don't pull anything, just go for a ride in the DE2. Head out from the west side of the Harbor and at the second switch, instead of going left like you would if you were going to the Steel Mill, go right. This will take you north on a stretch of track that nobody ever has any need to travel on. This takes you to another switch which you can only go one way through and complete a loop back to the east side of the Harbor. However, when you approach this switch, stop the DE2 and look straight ahead at the top of the mountain. You will see the Castle at the top of the mountain. You can hop out and go for a walk up the mountain. You can wander all around the Castle and go inside all the rooms. You can use "F" to hop up on top of the walls and visit everything there is to see. I tried this and was hoping to find a hidden secret but couldn't find anything. Who knows, maybe something happens after it gets dark. Nevertheless, I don't think anyone has done a video on the Castle yet.
