When will Holly start to get Buds
Could you put the bag on first and then bring the elastic up and over the bag from the bottom?
Very informative without all the extra "fluff." Straight to the point the way I like it.🎉
I agree, sometimes all the extra bells and whistles are a distraction and take away from the informative nature of what a good instructional video should be about. Teaching. Not entertaining.
Thank you! Due to the well established root system, these plants got a great start and are still growing strong!
The pots should be kept outside. I place mine in indirect sun and kept moist until new growth appears. Afterwards, l slowly introduce them to more sun, always making sure that the soil doesn’t completely dry out.
They may need the support of some twine initially, however, they do attach very well on their own, once established. I have mine growing in full sun.
Great video! Should the pits be kept inside or outside? Also in direct or indirect sunlight? I want to plant some of these in an area in front of my porch hopefully they will attach to my porch railing. Also possibly in front of a privacy fence. Will they attach to it or would I need a trellis of some sort?
So many good tips!❤ Thank you much!❤
I was just about to make a cutting in a trumpet vine. What perfect timing. Thank you.
Perfect!
My chocolate mint seems more like a vine. Yours looks almost like a tree. Thats cool. Mine are about 2 years old and doing well thank God
Once the smokebush is planted, where do you put the pot?? You did not finish the video.
Nails is absolutely genius. This video is great, thanks from the UK
Thank you for this informative video.
how do you water them under the plastic and how long for the roots to grow and do you have to pull them out to monitor the root growth????????????
Hope you are ok Kelly! 💗 So glad your persistent was finally heard Im going to try root my smoke bush as per your video. I see u don't have any new content for a year now I pray you and your family are well. I enjoyed the videos of your son and husband with the bmx... God bless you all 💗
Your a very nice young man JW. I love hearing that you are there to help your mom and dad in times of need , its so important and you stepped up to the occasion! Pretty neat you get to learn to ride bike on your dads old school bike and call it your own . God bless you all ...!!!
Hi JW... Nice bike enjoyed your video! 🚲
Wow! That is amazing how fast they take off!
I just planted one today, and I hope it does well. It's in a low area in my yard and will get plenty of sun. My hopes are to get a very bird-friendly yard. Thanks for your video!
Thanks for the video. I always had a dream to grow Holly in my home town.
excellent video. Thank you.
It's beautiful. Nice video 👍
This happened to me this year waters broke 30th April I continued the pregnancy with no fluids for 7 and half weeks till I had a cord prolapse on the 17th June rushed for emergency C-section at 25 weeks pregnant baby survived and breathed so was rushed to NICU and passed away 11 hours later 😢 died on father's Day 18th June 2023
Can you leave your cuttings indoors all winter? When do you have to take the covering off?
Hi Kelly, I know this video is from 2 years ago, but I just landed on it, and not only is it an incredibly motivational story, but I think the most inspirational part is hearing you praise your son
So, you put an already sprouted seed into a pot with soil. That's genius...
I cannot thank you enough. Love flowers & herbs 🌿 recently began growing more and more Lavender because it does so well in our old farm, but I'm sooooo GREEN and still learning. This was by far the best video tips on my very favorite, I've seen. Thank you 💜
Does it grow fast and will these spread ok on their own
Thanks for the video. I bought my wife some Russian sage now she loves it and wants it everywhere so I had to see how to do this. I bought some root compound stuff. I figured it can only help. I got the same kind that you are using
What’s your follow-up?
Would have been nice to actually see you do all the trimmings.
I’ve just been using the store plastic bags that aren’t transparent and I never thought of freezer bags. Great idea!!!
Please confirm that cuttings should only be taken from soft green stems, not woody ones. When I trimmed back my bush about 5 weeks ago, I stuck some woody stem cuttings in water, and no roots have appeared. I'll stick them in the dirt if there's a chance they'll root. Thank you!
it would helpful to mention how and how often you water the cuttings, how long they take to root and when you plant them. Pete moss andis a good mix.
Kelly, was this your first time taking cuttings? The reason I asked is because I've tried twice and I have been unsuccessful. I am pretty good at propagation, but the smoke tree has beat me every time. I saw someone here mentioned $50 yup.....the smoke bushes at my local nursery were 2 gallon for over 60%....yikes@ I didn't cut at a node/I took a softwood cutting from the new growth. I did put under a plastic dome. I haven't given up yet.
Same here! Do you need to water occasionally? I think it takes about 10 weeks to root -- is that right?
Generally when using the same rooting powder I will first poke a hole in the dirt so the powder does not get scraped off on the way down through the dirt and I do not tap it off after putting a cutting in the rooting powder.
Those look fantastic! How are they doing these days? After 2 yrs they must be grown tall. That's what I am going to do in a few days. Thank you for the great information!
Informative and to the point thank you
Thanks for the video I will start some cuttings this spring
That color is RAL 5005 Electric Blue and only on the 88s very cool bike indeed, it’s ALL OG and a very uncommon color on an 87 but transitional colors and parts on 87/88 years occurred. That’s a 4K bike. I hope that kid is careful and is Carrying some mace.
Super cool Pro Performer my man! I have 1 myself the same color. Hang on to it.
I'm pregnant right now. I'm 22 weeks and I've got ruptured membranes and a prolapsed umbilical cord... they kept bothering me about just aborting while my babies still fighting to live. I asked to just go home and I'll come back if nature takes it course since I don't want to keep hearing how little of a chance they have and i feel like they arent even trying to help keep my baby. They said I've got a 1-0% chance of survival but I'm on day two of bedrest by myself at home and taking my antibiotics that I got my brother to get it fot me plus trying to keep the elevation off the umbilical cord and pelvis.. hope we make it like you guys did :( Really disheartened by my hospitals lack of care in my city. Two hospitals were just trying to make me deliver/Abort without trying. My baby is alive with a heart rate ranging an average of 140-159... I honestly feel like im mentally/physically better off to continue my own bed rest at home by myself and just need to monitor my babies heart rate, movements, take antibiotics, remain laying down and im keeping an eye on the cord as its sitting around my cervic but not visible unless being examined internally.. Wish me luck bc even my own city gave up on us🙃
U go with your heart I did the same my waters broke at 18 weeks and my cord prolapsed at 25 weeks I got rushed for emergency C-section my baby breathed on her own when they said she never would okay she passed away 11 hours later but that was due to our infection and her temperature wasn't regulating you got this mama I know how hard it is I leaked floods of blood every day for 8 weeks xx
Please dont do that to heirloom tools, even if its a little thing is pretty cool to say "this safety razor was your great great grandad's", that tool will survive probably for a couple of decades buried like that... But that still seems like unnecessary abuse
Can you start these in the fall in your home in window with sun light then plant outside in spring
Thanks for sharing your video! Great job! I love this plant as well! The only thing I would add is that stem cuttings will often produce new growth before roots are produced, so while that's a good sign for future root production, new growth will often happen without any roots being produced. I agree with you that gently tugging on the stem to see if it has started to anchor itself with roots is a bad idea, as you could tug apart some roots that are just developing, but please know that "new growth" is not a foolproof method of determining that roots are actually growing under the soil. Stored energy in the stem can push new growth without any roots, so the presence of new growth can be deceiving. (I've had stem cuttings with quite a bit of growth with no roots at all, and boy, is that disappointing when you take them out) Your best bet is to be patient and wait out the full six weeks (or more, if you're not pressed for time). It's definitely hard to wait as a gardener, but leaving these cuttings untouched will be worth it. It's possible that not every stem cutting will develop roots even if you do everything right, but by leaving them untouched (except for a spritz of water if necessary) you will definitely increase your odds. Thanks again for the video, and here's to 4 new Butterfly Bush plants!
Good info! What do you do with the covered ones in the winter? It is september here and just planted some cuttings and covered them. I have a small zip up mini green house and I put them in there covered. Hopefully that is ok
@@piaaladdin1973 Sounds like the perfect spot to me! I'm not sure exactly when the plants go dormant, but I think I would suggest taking the cover off after about 6 weeks. I say that because you'll want air flow for the plants over the winter. Keeping them covered could cause fungus or root rot. Your little green house should provide the protection they'll need. I think I planted my last stem cuttings around the 9th of September. They're still covered and outside, and I'll likely place them in a low hoop house by mid October. That will be about 6 weeks under a cover, so I'll take the cover off when they go in the hoop house. Be sure to keep them moist throughout the winter months! You don't want them drying out. Sounds like you got this... Good Luck!
Thanks for the video. Where do you put the plant in the winter while waiting for new growth or roots etc.
Every time I cut a piece with a un opened bud when it's still green. Cut it stick it straight in the dirt. In about 5 days that bud starts opening. No hormone powder or anything. Do not clip the bud off.
Most of us knew, or probably had a good idea that willow was in the jugs. Also, they grow into bushes, NOT TREES.
At around 20' I'd stop calling it a bush
Got one next to my garden, it 100% will grow into a tree if not maintained
I will try this. Wonder if I can do this now it's toward the end of summer
I'm in the North East (Zone 6), and I started a full tote of cuttings on 9/9/22. I did lots of cuttings over the summer, which is a better time to take cuttings (faster roots), but it's still do-able now. Roots may take a little longer, but the time is going to pass anyway, so what have you got to lose? One suggestion I would make, since the roots you do get will be very new going into the cold weather (in my area anyway) is to keep them protected throughout winter. Either leave them in a covered tub (with air holes) or perhaps a hoop house type arrangement. They'll go dormant, then continue producing more roots in the spring. You can plant them in the garden next spring with a more robust root system. Whatever you do, make sure they stay moist! If the soil they're in dries out during the winter, you'll lose them for sure! That's a huge disappointment, and snow and rain isn't always enough to keep them moist. Good Luck!
@@jlnriddick thank you so much. I've started 2.. and they are doing great at 3 weeks in and I have a make shift greenhouse. Thank you again
@@jamiescountryliving My pleasure! I have 4 "Prince Charming Buddleia" cuttings in my batch, and I'm crossing my fingers that they'll hang in there to develop roots. I only have 1 established Butterfly Bush in the garden, and I've recently become obsessed with wanting more. Best of Luck... sounds like you're on the right track!
@@jlnriddick yes I only have 1 bush as well and want more 😂
I have a funky fuscia butterfly bush. I would love to take cuttings from and add more to my yard.
Do you need to keep them in a light source?
