This native Australian nut has become a global success story, and with good reason. Nothing compares to its texture, its taste or its health benefits. And nothing compares to the commitment of Australian growers to produce the world’s finest nut. See more at australian-macadamias.org/industry/
Conserving Australia's macadamias. Ian McConachie, Australian macadamia pioneer.
Press play to learn more about Australian macadamia pioneer Ian McConachie, the Macadamia Conservation Trust (MCT) and the ongoing journey to conserve macadamias in the wild.
"Every macadamia tree in the world, and there's probably about a hundred million macadamia trees have been planted globally, every one of them originated from Australia's rainforest, and there are really only two, three, or maybe four generations out of the rainforest."
"It's important to conserve macadamias because, firstly, they're part of Australia's flora and fauna being steadily lost. But the commercial macadamia industry is based on a tiny genetic fraction of the available trees. We simply do not know how important the genetics of the wild trees are and how diverse they are. It is quite possible that there will be massive improvements in productivity and adaptability that come from wild genetic resources."

Tree Shaker Technology 2021: grower insights
มุมมอง 3.6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Tree shaking technology has come a long way since the first machines were introduced to tree crops in the 1960s. Today’s shakers are sophisticated machines fitted with sensors and padded heads, so they are much less likely to damage trees than in the past. A growing number of macadamia orchard owners and managers are incorporating tree shakers into their harvest programs. As well as helping to ...

Share farm / lease farm - how many growers use this method over straight ownership?
Well done Tony, what a mindful insight....you have put a lot of brainpower and logic to finding a most sustainable💪 alternative🦾
Great work. Hopefully information can be gathered that will lead to more productive farming.
A great talk. So clearing away weeds like lantana and tobacco bush from areas adjacent to an orchard is needed to discourage rats from settling there. My little orchard is adjacent to a forested gully that is verging on rainforest. I’ll have get in there with a brush cutter.
nice presentation
