    I have a&& h*le Squirrels and Raccoons who straight up ate my only two pumnkins I got this year and worked so hard to get to grow..they were perfect pumnkins. I literally cried when I saw the stems ripped off where my pumnkins were. Then screamed and yelled cursing all the Squirrels I could see...then cursed out my stray cat who had always protected my vegetable garden from the Squirrels up until my dummy head decided ide feed him to make sure he didn't leave...ha, he's not hungry anymore so he doesn't have to kill eat Squirrels. Guess it's really only my own fault hu. So here I am with massive pumnkin vine and leafs. I plucked all other possible females to ensure my couple best ones thrived. I knew I was taking a gamble doing that.

    • @DeepWoodsDietitian
      @DeepWoodsDietitian หลายเดือนก่อน

      Aw, that sounds rough! I have some of the same struggles with wildlife. Definitely squirrels running around here constantly, and a raccoon just broke our fancy bird feeder. We also have deer so my garden is fenced off and that does seem to help. I think the fact our squirrels are well fed at the bird feeders might also keep them a bit occupied. Gophers & moles are even more trouble. Haha, trying to figure out how to co-exist peacefully but it can be tough. I hope that finding out you can use the pumpkin leaves was at least a tiny consolation for you. Good luck with your little a$$h*les.

    Thanks so much for this video! I have been on the fence about planting elderberries in my garden for so long, especially that they are native here to the areas of California that are inland of the fog belt on the immediate coast. Those areas are bone dry all throughout the hot summer in terms of both precipitation and humidity, so low-water plants are important. Since they are native here, there require little to no intentional watering, which saves the environment and more importantly saves money. Thanks for letting me know that they taste good, so I get a free all-natural non-cultivated local variety of food that is also fresh! Furthermore, since it's so sunny here, I can just put the berries in an extremely simple passive solar oven to cook them in order to destroy the naturally occurring toxic biological compounds, which means I don't even have to pay for electricity, gas, or the expensive up-front purchase of solar panels!

    Thanks so much for this video! I've just discovered a number of edible wild plants growing on the property I bought recently and Penny Cress is one of them. I live in the PNW, it's hot and dry here. The Penney Cress was mostly dry so I picked some and dried it out completely as a dried 'flower' arrangement. It's so unique looking. Well, I decided to give it a try today. Boy, oh boy are my seeds smaller than yours. I'm so glad I found your video that explains how to harvest the seeds. They taste mustardy, but there's no heat to them at all. I suppose that's because they're not mature seeds. Anyway, now, thanks to you, I know how to free the seeds from the husks. I'm going to try mixing them into mayo, honey and wine vinegar. Blessings of health and happiness to you and yours!

    @Deep Woods Dietitian - Thank you for this video, and recipe. Nicely done!! I am a bee keeper and just started collecting propolis (I'm so excited to use it!). In your video you use 10 drops of your tincture. How did you decide how many drops to use? Would more tincture be indicated for other uses? Was it a flavor issue for the lozenges? Also, in allowing the boiled product to cool, and thicken a bit, prior to adding the tincture, do you know if propolis - and consequently the tincture - is denatured by increased temps as honey is? I understand the nutrients in honey are denatured at temps around 110 -115 degrees F. Do you know if it is advised to have the boiled product cool that low before adding the tincture? Thanks so much for any thoughts on this.

      @Blueyopo - Regarding consuming propolis without making a tincture (or possibly a powder), as I understand it the waxes and resins within the propolis are difficult for human digestive system to digest and absorb. That is why one is encouraged to use the propolis in a processed form instead of consuming it raw. Hope this is helpful.
