Behind the Clock (GB 1943) Anson Dyer Animation
Anson Dyer (1876-1962) was a major figure in British animation for over thirty years, from the First World War to the late 1940s. Here's an advertising film he made for Kelloggs Cereals, showing you the benefits of having a good breakfast every day. You'll note that you're not told you're watching an advert until the very last minute. The lovely unfaded colour is dye transfer Technicolor.

Cadburys "I Couldn't Have Believed It" Cinema Advert ca.1930
มุมมอง 1973 ปีที่แล้ว
Settle in with a nice box of Wizzo Chocolates. This promotional film for Cadburys, scanned from our collection, is from the pre-Quality Street era when chocolate assortments were still the preserve of the wealthier purchaser .... and when cinema audiences had the patience for six minute adverts. From around 1930.
Into the Light
มุมมอง 1083 ปีที่แล้ว
Here's a quirky promotional film from the Fifties. Make sure to watch past the fairly dry introduction and then you'll see the benefits of varied electric lighting demonstrated via the medium of dance (yes, really). The irascible commentator here is Gilbert Harding, a popular TV face of the time, whose Waldo Lydecker-esque demeanour earned him the description "The Bilious Bachelor of Broadcasti...
Embex! The Quack Remedy that Cures All Ills
มุมมอง 343 ปีที่แล้ว
In 1942, if you had a headache, an annoying boss with a nasal voice or you just worked in a hot kitchen or noisy factory, then these and all other ills could be quashed simply by taking some Embex Tablets. Nobody knew what was in them but they were assured by the makers to be most efficacious! Buy some today! Er oh hang on....
Skiffle Heat (1950s Electric Cooking Ad)
มุมมอง 2743 ปีที่แล้ว
A delightful cinema ad from the late 1950s. Skiffle Heat is what you need to cook your dinner auto-magically whilst you're out shopping in your high heels. (Musical pedants might dispute whether the song is really skiffle - where's me washboard?)

A Vintage Film about London's Food Markets
มุมมอง 5243 ปีที่แล้ว
A fascinating look at Covent Garden, Smithfields and Spitalfields (now all changed) in OLD London, along with the railway goods stations (now all gone) that served them. Made by Gaumont-British in 1948. Scanned from a (worn) 16mm print in our collection.
Valley of the Dolls & Beyond TV Spot
มุมมอง 6883 ปีที่แล้ว
Original US TV Spot for Valley of the Dolls (1967, dir Mark Robson) and Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970, dir Russ Meyer). Meyer's film is here described as "Not A Sequel" following a less-than-enthusiastic reception from VOD author Jacqueline Susann. They are for sure quite different films... and we love them both 😃 Scanned from a 16mm film, and colour corrected to reduce fading.
Butlins Holiday Camp Advert 1966
มุมมอง 13K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Showing the Monorail; the Ski Slope; Waterskiiing; the Wild West Saloon and (most exotic of all) the Tiki Beachcomber Bar, with yummy-looking cocktails ("glamorous concoctions") priced at only 4 bob. Scanned from a faded 16mm film where we have managed to replace some colour. Roll on summer holidays!

Groovy Coffee Cinema Promo

Fed up with the depressing World News Situation? How about a little livener..... Fancy a cup of Joe? These groovers seem to have known about it all along! Far out! GB ca. 1968, shot in London, for unknown sponsors. The riverside pad is probably Alembic House on the Albert Embankment, also used in Theatre of Blood (GB 1973).
1950s Christmas Promo Film
มุมมอง 1.9K4 ปีที่แล้ว
A cinema promo film for Christmas, dating we think from the mid-1950s. This one emphasises the Season of Goodwill and the traditional aspects of Xmas. Note the stentorian RP commentary! From an orange-tinted 35mm film.

Health and safety gone mad !
I recall seeing this unforgettable double bill at a drive-in. High school era. Lots of beer and laughter. Thanks for the clip.
Brilliant. 😊
Peggy looked good and healthy for 86 in this video. She died 6 years later in Dec 2017 at 92. She was very good looking in that movie when she was 25. She had me falling in love with her!
The Canadian totem pole in the tropical bar
A very modest man. Kudos.
I remember going to the Beachcomber bar during the day to take a look As during the evening it was obviously for adults only ..I was about 10 at the time, now 63 . My mum n dad are now 91 and 88 . Absolutely loved Butlins went to pretty much all the camps from the late 60,s 70,s
Great times great memories
@@janeokeeffe5297 It was a magical time as a kid .We couldn't wait to get to the camp .we used to stop half way at the side of the road and eat sandwiches that mum had prepared for us ,and a flask of tea with a red tartan pattern on it lol . When we finally arrived ,seeing the gates and the funfair in the background was just brilliant 😁👍. A whole week of doing what we wanted .Mum n dad let us go off and we'd just meet up for dinner at the dining room ..Happy days indeed. I remember the music🎶 they used to play over the tannoy to wake us up in the mornings .There was a speaker 🔊 in every chalet if I remember rightly 😁
@@Astravan63 yes it was a great time, I remember it all so clearly , even the time my sister an I got stuck in the chair lift half way up because of the wind🤣seemed like we were there for ages, , fantastic times wish we could go back it was like you said magical 👍yeah I do remember the music 🎶 they played in the chalet’s radio butlins calling 🤣
@@janeokeeffe5297 😂👍. I'd love to go back in time to about 1974 .I remember going into a daytime disco and hearing Rock your baby by George mcrae 🎶 Whenever i hear that song it instantly takes me back to that day aged 13 . The last time I went to Butlins was a Filey in 1977 age 16 I'd been to pretty much all the camps including bognor ,Minehead, Clacton, Skegness, Filey , Yarmouth. Such a shame they closed a lot of them ,and are not the same
@@Astravan63 yeah same we went to all the butlins from the 60s through to the 80s the only one we didn’t go to was Ayr, it was just a bit to far, 1974 was a great time for music, I remember the disco at Filey was great, I was at Skegness the year Elvis died and they played his songs the whole time, we were probably at one of the camps at the same time 😀it’s a small world
LOVED HER COSTUMES / FASHION FOR PSYCHE 59 MADE IN 1964 LOVE THEM STILL TODAY

This was lovely. I can't believe I've lived in north London for ten years and never watched a movie at The Phoenix. Just you wait till this lockdown's over!
Marvellous.
What beautiful memories of the museum and it truly showcases the importance of why you should continue to be supported. We cannot wait till you're allowed to open again.
What a lovely, and very poignant, reminder of what we are all missing so badly. Let's hope it's not too long before we are back at this wonderful Museum.
Brings back fond memories of visits to the Museum, soon to be rekindled, let's hope! Of course we can all make a contribution to making that happen by signing the petition.
Music and picture absolutely beautiful. Caroline says, 'Miss you guys!'
A must have for this great city
What s smashing film. Reminder of past visits.

I like to think that I have a special affinity with the Cinema Museum because in the 1950s I was a Saturday-afternoon-at-the-movies, film-mad kid in Aberdeen, where much of the basis of the Museum collection originated. Not only that, but many of the films I saw would actually have been shown by Ron Grant, who was a projectionist in the city at the time. You might say he has a lot to answer for, but my childhood was cinema heaven, and I loved every one of Aberdeen’s picture houses. Ron saved as much as he could; tragically the rest was lost forever, thrown into Aberdeen’s Rubislaw Quarry. This touching and perceptive film clearly shows how the impressive collection now has items from far and wide since its early days. Francesco Zavattari’s evocative images and Neil Brand’s music, with its flavour of Cinema Paradiso swept me back over fifty years; a reminder that nostalgia is a hugely powerful and important part of cinema history. Congratulations to everyone involved in the making of The Love Letter. PLEASE sign the petition if you haven't already done so!
Hello Starrman, thank you for your very lovely message - we will make sure that Ronald reads it today - he will be thrilled to bits with your memories. Gun Crazy Is A Masterpiece
A fabulous history shared. Thank you, I have shared the video documentary.
Just saw the film yesterday and thought it was superb. She was a terrific actor.
Seems like she wasn't proud of that movie nothing to be ashamed about its just a movie anyone who takes that serious is crazy.great movie I liked it.
I think she meant the movie was great but she wasn't a fan of the violence on it
So you're saying she's crazy . Nice.
A true gentleman, very kind and warmhearted and a great actor! Thank you!
RIP Dudley, a delightful man who, even in old age, retained the buoyant interest and vitality of a child.
He and Sellers are still funny in those films when together, but the Cousteau movies aged poorly. They are sadly dull now.
