      @@ZentoJPN Me to, I am considering trying to do my own playthrough of it in JP, but I'm also aware of how hard it will be, since I did a test with pokemon black yesterday, and it took me like 3 hours just to get to the point where I can choose my starter, and even then I had to start skipping some dialogue because my smartphone as running out of battery and that would make it much harder to look up kanji as I'm playing on a real nintendo ds.

    • @ZentoJPN
      @ZentoJPN หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah honestly sometimes it’s just like that. You need to decide whether you’re going to play for fun or for study and change your way of thinking. Pokemon is good because if the Japanese gets too much you can just grind levelling or something else instead. Also the more modern pokemon games have kanji with the furigana above it which makes looking words up much easier. But if you love digimon world it’s still worth playing for sure!

    • @costelinha1867

      @@ZentoJPN Yeah, sadly I don't have access to the modern pokemon games due to not having a switch or a 3ds, but at the very least pokemon black let's me toggle between kana and kanji modes. As for Digimon, I agree, I love digimon world, and honestly, reading will be hard anyways regardless due to me being new to japanese, so a change in mindset is in order.

    Yeah, definitely upload them if you can whether or not there are subtitles. I agree with you that there is still value with for it and they're fun to watch. Normally, when I watch Japanese content, I usually don't bother with English subtitles until the second or third viewing. And sometimes I just don't even bother and just let myself understand what I can understand and the rest I just assume I'll come back to it in the future and see what I can parse.

    Took a break from watching the OoT playthrough since I saw you had uploaded more episodes of It Takes Two. I greatly enjoyed this first episode! You're right! I did understand a lot more because of the conversation being bilingual. It helps that your girlfriend (now wife if I recall correctly? If so, then congratulations if I haven't already said that) is easy to understand. I think there may have only been a couple times I needed to playback to try and catch what she said. And yeah, haha, don't need to worry about what to say in a Let's Play. It's all just talking about random stuff or the game or whatever. Nature of the Let's Play (and for the native Japanese input, of course!). As far as the subs not matching the dubs...yeah, this is super annoying. This is why I don't watch too many things that were originally made in English in Japanese. Or if I do, I don't have subs turned on as well which I really dislike doing. I guess the reason is because the subs are the direct translations of the English where as the dubs are made to try and lip sync. Kind of a pity though.

I also tried Stardew Valley a long while ago but my reading ability just wasn't good enough. I've been meaning to go back because I think I've improved a lot since then. And I haven't really tried with much else. Part of it is just my ability (or lack thereof) but I've felt my time has been better spent watching a Japanese show since I can get a lot more. @@ZentoJPN Thank you! And I think I will start soon. I've almost finished with part 2 of your OoT playthrough and I've found it super motivating. When watching and trying to read along I found myself pleasantly surprised because I can actually read a lot more than I thought. I don't always understand what I read though. And it probably does help that you're reading it at the same time. Also, it's been pretty fun to see if I can actually read kanji that you need to look up whether for appropriate pronunciation or you just don't know it. I usually don't know but I did get it right a couple of times. And I guess it's a bit of a relief seeing someone who is far more skilled at Japanese at me still stumble. Sometimes I forget that we're all in this journey together and it gets a bit intimidating around others who are much better. @StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews Thanks again! Yeah once you have a good basis it’s surprising how much you can actually read, and thanks to kanji you can often guess both the meaning and the pronunciation sometimes. Was looking into that gap between dimensions and what it was in Japanese. I think 次元 の狭間 is Jigen no Hazama, the latter part pretty obscure. Gap between dimensions is a good way to translate it. Reminds me of the Interdimensional Rift in Final Fantasy 5, which is Jingejo (literally Dimension Castle, weird)

      I never expected follow up to a random question I had on a stream vod over a year later. But thank you for watching and thank you for the insightful knowledge drop! I googled 次元城 and it was mostly FF5 related, but definitely seems to be a fantasy thing in general in Japanese.

    That's great if you want to learn some vocabulary around legal subjects and to answer the question in the title "yes" you can learn japanese with this game, but if the question is "should you learn japanese with Phoenix Wright?" the answer is definitely not. If you want to learn Japanese (through games), you should at all cost pick games that have voice support. Hearing and reading are too different processes, sure you learn by reading but if you study Japanese only with text based games let say for 2 years then you'll need another year of hearing to rewire your brain, whereas if you play 2 years of voice support games then you'll already be both used to reading and hearing, and that's a big deal!

    • @ZentoJPN
      @ZentoJPN 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's definitely true, I usually suggest a good mix of skills where possible. But if people want to only play games with Japanese text or they really want to play a certain series in Japanese I'm all for encouraging them to just make it happen. Voice acted games is definitely more efficient though.

    I’ve used Animal crossing to greatly improve my Spanish and now I’m making a new island to help my French. It’s really useful to learn casual phrases and things you wouldn’t have learned in a textbook or such. If animal crossing was available when I was learning Japanese it would’ve make it so much easier.

    • @ZentoJPN
      @ZentoJPN 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow that's awesome. How different are the vibes between languages or is it just a direct translation most of the time? Im sure some form of Animal Crossing would have been around, but it was definitely a lot less accessible than getting a Japanese version nowadays! Thanks for watching :)

    • @yahuive1782
      @yahuive1782 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ZentoJPN I’d say most of it is the same but they definitely change the humour or certain phrases to make sure it has the same affect between languages. A lot of villagers have different names in other languages for example that make more sense than directly translating it. 99% of the time tho it’s just slight alterations like in Spanish it’s “Mini Nook” instead of “La grieta de Nook” and in French it’s Nook’s shop. Love your content tho 😊

    • @ZentoJPN
      @ZentoJPN ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say having good Kanji knowledge would help, between 500-1000 will make reading/looking up in a dictionary much less frustrating. And 1000-2000 general vocab as a good base level. On top of that there's lots of legal/police vocab in this game you might need to learn specifically. But the good thing is lots of it is repeated throughout the game. So maybe the first case will take a long time, but the other cases should get easier as you recognise more vocabulary again. Good luck with your studies and I hope you can play these games one day! :)

    Great video. I've played through a couple games in Japanese and now I'm curious to try a foreign game that was localized into Japanese. I suspect something that was translated would probably have more textbook-style grammar and less slang compared to something that was natively written in Japanese.

      Thank you so much for watching! Yeah there’s definitely a couple stiff/awkward translations, and a lot of “old timey” phrases due to the setting. But overall it’s pretty standard Japanese. I think most modern games have pretty good localisations these days, both ways 😂
