A popular mountain bike trail in the South Bay - John Nicholas
มุมมอง 246หลายเดือนก่อน
There are more than one reason that I prefer mountain biking than road biking. One biggest reason is that it’s more exciting. The single track is fun to ride on. The twists and turns of the trail kept me fully engaged that I have to dodge and hop over rocks and tree roots. My body, legs and arms are in constant motion as I have to dance around the obstacles. The ride is generally shorter than r...

I am not Superman! and you should know that! Never in my life I've ever thought of competing in any triathlon event, especially the Ironman. I’m just one ordinary human being. Just like you, I make all kinds of dumb mistakes over and over again, with a slight twist to each of them. After many weeks of training, I am well prepared for the Santa Cruz Ironman 70.3, that’s what I thought. But anyth...

Canada rd in the SF Bay peninsula I’m not sure this is the most popular cycling path in the SF Bay Area. But it sure seems like it ... I’ve just signed up for the California Ironman. I can’t believe I just signed up for it. There are only 8 full distance Ironman in the US, and one of them is in the beautiful capital of California, Sacramento. The original plan was a very aggressive one, to ride 190 km from Shizhuo all the way to Pingtung City with a total elevation gain of 5,000 ft. The majority of the route is downhill in the mountains but it's over 100 km on flat road at sea level going through many little towns on the inland. The inland temperature is expected to reach 100F. Again, we changed the plan and only planned to ride in ...

We started from the Heshe town and climbed non-stop to the summit of Tataka mountain in the Yushan National park. From there we'll take the mini-van to the hotel in the town Shi...

When is your next ride ..? I would like to join you guys, if I could..?!
Sure. It’s rain and winter season. Probably no large group ride until spring 😊
hows your nomad sir?
I sold it to a friend 😊. It was a really good bike. A good balance of downhill , front shock travel and handling.
Compared to Climb to Kaiser, the Death Ride is a walk in the park.
I’ve never heard of Climb to Kaiser. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. That’s insane! 155 miles with 16,000 ft of climbing 😮. That will require serious training to get it done !
This was my first MTB trail I went on and rode it with my gravel bike. Fun ride good training!
You're a great storyteller. Thanks for the inspiration
Thank you!
Thanks 😊! Ironman Wales ! That’s a full distance Ironman 😮!! Have you done it ? That’s a tough race. 😢
Great job well done. You will have to come to wales and try and slay the dragon 😜
That is a great time for your first half marathon! Good job
Thanks!
Its me again asking if you could share the Strava route. Thanks, brother. :)
No problem. Can you email me and I’ll send you the route? I dont remember whom created it. Scott0357@gmail.com
Could you share the Strava route? I want to do some long rides for my 100/200 mile rides in 2025. Also, love your videos, Scott. Binging on them and gaining inspiration. :)
Can you send me an email to scott0357@gmail.com? Thanks.
strava.app.link/ZYyUGG9m7Mb. Here’s the Strava route
Loved this. Thank you very much. :)
I would like to ride up Mount Hamilton. At th-cam.com/video/kLNgG1400js/w-d-xo.html. where is this starting point that I can park my car?
You can park at this coordinate. 37.38394° N, 121.81619° W. Junction of Alum Rock Ave and Mount Hamilton Rd. Park on the shoulder of Alum Rock Ave.
@@imdragonslayer Thank you so much, Mr. Dragon Slayer. :)
@@imdragonslayer Thank you sir. ONe last question. Where did you stay? Are there any AirbnBs nearby? Sounds like a very remote area.
@@planttheseed2129 I stay in San Jose. I don’t know if any Airbnb in that area but there are plenty of small hotels and motels nearby. Many hotels near the San Jose airport and you can start riding your bike from the hotel.
@@imdragonslayer I meant to pose that question on your Death Ride video. I was wondering where to stay this year. Apologies for the confusion.
This is my ride.
Too bad, they didn’t have Canada Road restriped before your video.
How much do you weigh now? I don't think you need to lose 10lbs. You are very slim, bro.
Thanks. I made this video quick a while back and started to do this long climbs. For long rides , I shouldn’t push too hard at the beginning and rather needed to keep it at a steady pace and not pushing any closer to my maximum power output. Today I maybe like 4 lbs lighter. For short rides , I can push myself really hard
Just put a small screw driver or Allen wrench in the valve stem hole and rotate rim until the nipple stops at the hole. Then poke at the nipple and it will come right out. Very easy and no mess.
I tried your technique and didn’t work because it’s difficult to align the nipple straight to the hole. It’s always at an angle to the hole and unable to get the nipple out.
LOL. Uhm…NO. You don’t think anyone thought of that? 🤦🏻♂️ No, that does not work for anyone who does not have your one in 1 million luck.
Awesome ride! Hope to ride some of these routes soon.
Have fun!
Can you give part number of shocks , I have changed globe My LC 470 drives good. Wanted to change shockers also.
I don’t have the PN of the shocks. I think you can look that up online or your local Toyota dealer parts department can look that up for you for free.
Put her data on the screen so we can see her speed, power, cadence, etc. There are frequent fast group rides that goes through the area quite frequently. You can hit Kings Mtn, Old La Honda, PageMill, West Alpine, etc for some awesome climbs.
Thanks for the idea. I still yet need to figure out to put the Garmin data on the video. It’s interesting to see other’s training speed and power. But that maybe be helpful to us since everyone’s power output is different. Her power output is much lower than mine but going at the same speed as me since I weight more and have a different bike. For endurance riding , we never push it to our ftp, typically at 65% of our ftp.
I used to ride there all of the time, now I miss it (moved 2 years ago). I would ride up Crystal Springs Road, then up Ralston then take the bike path down to Canada to Roberts Market and back. A good hilly route. Your ride video brought back fond memories, thanks!
Thanks for sharing! Canada Rd is a beautiful place for training.
Nice vid. Where do most people park?
You can park at the parking lot next to the Independence Hall off Woodside Rd. Or park at the junction of Canada Rd and Hwy 92. Plenty of parking spots on both shoulders
@@imdragonslayer Cool. Thx man. Btw, we've passed each other one time on the Todd Quik trail at Alum Rock lol
oh yeah. That’s cool. I haven’t been to there for a while now. Please give me a shout next time when you recognize me. 😊
@@imdragonslayer For sure. You were descending and I was going uphill so we were just carefully trying to get out of each others way lol
@@imdragonslayer I also haven't ridden there in a while either. I usually mtn bike at Calero and road bike the Coyote Creek Trail.
Mr. Dragon Slayer, Impressive. What was your group's average speed? How long did it take? I would love to do this next year.
Thank you ! We started riding at 4:10am, average moving speed was 15.5mph , moving time 12.5 hrs. Add 1.5 hrs for breaks and lunch. Most people finished riding before sunset. Good luck and have fun next year !
Not trying to be a jerk but Teresita Way in nearby Los Gatos is much steeper. I measure steepness by number of stops I have to make on the way up hahaha.
Thanks for letting me know. I’ve not heard of this street. Not a long climb, right ? Bohlman Rd is just one long climb of a few miles without stopping
@@imdragonslayer it’s def shorter but for reference I had to stop twice up Bohlman and had to stop about 10 times up Teresita. It’s off Kennedy not far from University. It seems you (like me) like to throw yourself against a wall from time to time to see what breaks hahahaha, and Teresita is a very worthy opponent.
Post a video of Teresita!
@@tysonkampbjj what? you had to stop 10 times up Teresita. That sounds so challenging and yet interesting! I'm curious now. I've ridden up Kennedy Rd many times on my mtn bike.
@@imdragonslayer I'm just guessing 10 times. It was a lot. I just looked up the ride on strava. You'll climb 827 feet in 1.2 miles.
Not really the SF South Bay, more the Mid-peninsula
Thank you for taking the time to comment. Yeah. Mid-peninsula. 😅. Started from the South Bay to the mid-peninsula. 😊
So glad to see a happy group of riders! Those are some expensive bikes. ☺ Worth the money to keep healthy.
Thank you. Yeah. Got to keep on riding since big money is already spent on the bikes … 😊
Can you post the route from strava?
Can you send me an email at scott0357@gmail.com?
What’s your club name on Strava? I would like to join you sometime
Thanks. We are not a club or have a starva club but just a bunch of friends cycling together. That’s actually a good idea of starting a Strava Club.
Hi, I was the guy who stopped by to say hello today on Guadalupe River Trail. It was nice meeting you and your friend. Looks like your Ironman training is going well cause you guys looked speedy :) You make really cool videos, they help time pass by on the indoor trainer. Looking forward to seeing more. Good luck for your upcoming triathlons!
Thank you for stopping by to say hello and recognizing us. I didn’t expect that but much appreciated. Good luck on your SCIM training too. Two more weeks of training left. It will be fun. If you like to synch up on check in for SCIM, please send me an email at scott0357@gmail.com.
I live in Newark. How does one join this club? Thank you.
Thanks for the comment. We are not a cycling club or an organization but just a bunch of friends having fun cycling. However in the next two months, most of us are in Ironman training so no leisure or coffee group rides for a while. 😢
Great video, looks like you all had fun!
I think I saw your group roll by while I was waiting to get into sand harbor coming from SLT. I think I recognized the girl who rides with the face covering. Anyways, Love watching your vids I want to do the Milpitas to Pleasanton ride you posted some time ago since I'm in that area.
Wow. That’s cool. What are the chances of that you were being there so early in the same area ??? That’s awesome. Hope you had a great time !
Looks so much fun. We’re blessed to have a place like this to enjoy. Lets keep Lake Tahoe Blue…Kudos to you guys 👍🏼
Thank you 🤗
I’ve watched a few of your videos. You guys seem like such a nice group of folks to ride with.
Thank you !😊
I rode this ride just last Saturday. Absolutely beautiful. I made many mini stops to take pictures and hydrate, but eventually made it to the top. It’s a must-do if you are a cyclist living in the Bay Area. I’ll do it once more before the year end.
That’s awesome. Glad that you made it to the top on the first attempt. Keep eating and drinking electrolytes liquid regularly. Next time you will get stronger and may just take two short breaks :).
Could you please post the strava route? I think it would be a fun ride. Thanks!
I so want to do this ride.
I was at my wits end after spending hours shaking the rim about like a madman. I used this technique, only I used grease. Hey presto, a little careful fiddling and the elusive little spoke nipple slithered out. What a relief. Thanks for the great tip!
I’m glad that this technique has helped you out. Okay. Grease works too ! Nice.
People riding in face masks... one of the most disturbing things i've ever seen.
I cycle with a neck wrap that I pull up as a mask. It keeps my mouth from drying out during heavy breathing. Plus it helps with car fumes. I’m originally from the Midwest and there it will keep the bugs out.
Started watching your videos and I like it. Doing the same thing here in Las Vegas biking and running. You’re lucky you have a nice weather in your area. . Keep the wheels turning and legs moving🚴🏿♂️🚵🏼♂️💪
That is awesome! Thanks for the encouragement.
Loved your video so much. I want to do this ride next year in 2025. :)
Go for it! You will love it. I also want to come back next year .
Big group to take on the day awesome vids
Epic ride, well done! Thank you for sharing it.
I got into road cycling earlier this year and am currently training for my first century later this year. Another goal of mine is to start doing double centuries as well. So glad I came across this video but what really earned my subscription is the outro of your video 😂 pure gold man. Hope to see you out and about in Sac.
Thanks. I’m glad you found this helpful. I made this video for entertainment purposes and tried to make it funny in someway. In the past , I alway had leg cramps doing over 50 miles and now I can ride 200 miles without issues. The key is never ride too hard and ride at 60-65% of your maximum power. Get a power meter if you don’t have one. Drink about a bottle of electrolytes (22 oz), depending on the weather of course, every hour, eat 200-300 calories of foods per hour and take one salt pill every 20 miles. That’s how I do it now. When you’re riding along with others stronger than you , and for sure you feel the urge to over take them, but don’t do that. It’s got a long way to go. Relax and take it easy and you will survive ! Good luck and enjoy the ride !
Be great if you can add the route from Strava or Ride with GPS
I always enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing. Would love to join your group for a ride one of these weekends.
The woman on the new carbon fiber Trek needs to spin. Having said that I’ve never been a great climber, so I relate.
