House Of Leaving
มุมมอง 77 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Today on the 5: I've been trying to read the experimental novel House Of Leaves for a while now, but it's been a struggle. Last week I saw the book laying on the shelf and I thought I should get back to reading it, but almost immediately after that thought I realized I never would.

In this stream I continue work on my "modernized" Bishop headshot. I realize I don't like the lips or the facial hair, so both of those areas get some major revisions. Also, my dog makes her presence known in multiple ways.
Finding The Weird
มุมมอง 189 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Today on the 5: Friend of the show Ant Pruitt recently asked me how I find some of the weird and lesser known films that I review. I may have talked about the odd avenues I check for these gems, but it was probably a while back so I figured why not do an updated version.
Joe & Lando Play Baldur's Gate 3 (Second Run, Part 9)
มุมมอง 119 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
In this installment of our second journey through the world of Baldur's Gate 3, I realize far later than I should have that Astarion can dual wield knives. Good thing I did, because not too long after that we run into a Beholder!
Service Model Book Review
มุมมอง 312 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Today on the 5: Thanks to the book club over at Twit.tv, I recently read a 2024 novel titled Service Model. For most of the book I was having a good time, but then I got to the ending and it blew me away.

Walking The Tightrope
มุมมอง 514 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Today on the 5: I saw a lot of angry reaction last week to some comments made by a pair of execs at Adobe about AI and artists. While I think one particular statement made was pretty brainless, overall I think the statemnets and overall approach from Adobe has been pretty good.

The Update Freeze
มุมมอง 9วันที่ผ่านมา
Today on the 5: If you've followed the journey of No Man's Sky over the years, you know it's often cited as the rare example of a game that launched to mixed reviews and has slowly rebuilt itself into a better experience. I've made a point to go back to the game several times over the years, but ironically the very updates that have redeemed the game are holding me back.

I love that this is on video!
@@heartbeathero I'm trying to branch out a bit. Glad you enjoyed it!
<3
Video keeps freezing/glitching about 18 minutes in?
Hmm, yeah, that's really odd! I'll check the original file and see if that has the same problem. Thanks for noting it! I've scrubbed the rest and (luckily) it looks like it's just in that little stretch.
New version is in place! th-cam.com/video/LFc6G3RAjr8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=eZ35fJpNRvzo2Sx0
That’s so cool
@@AnomalocarisAugust Thanks very much!
They aren’t going to put the money into remastering DS9 because hardly anyone bought the TNG remastered sets and they aren’t actually making money from Paramount Plus. As you said it would be MUCH more expensive with little expectation of return. It sucks, but until that changes it makes no business sense to do.
@@sovak75 True, but in my 5s I can imagine anything, no matter how unrealistic it is!
Those five hours went by quick. Great choice of movies! Predator 2, especially, I watched a lot when I was younger. Love how they expanded on the concept.
@@sumpmiffot Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, Predator 2 gets an unfair rap because it followed such a magnificent movie. 2 is a lot of fun if you just take it on its own merits.
Amazing vid, lovely that I found this.
Here before u get famous
Welcome! And that'll NEVER happen lol
Heyyyy
Terrible Film!! #RestoreTheSnyderverse
I can be your cozy game
Sadly, the actor who played Soft, the main character in this film, just died of cancer at age of 77. A terrible loss. The best Polish actor in my opinion.
@@PatrickSilent A shame. Performances in this movie are fantastic!
@@ozonenightmare Yeah. I can also recommend other Polish postapocalyptic film, a comedy in this case, which also stars Jerzy Stuhr. It's titled "Seksmisja" and is absolutely hilarious. And pretty dirty.
@@PatrickSilent Sounds right up my alley! I'm wStchung something right now like that called "Goodbye 20th Century"
@@ozonenightmare That looks pretty good!
Love Paris! Wish she had a regular show of her own outside of Leo's shadow.

Hey! Have you tried any current gen galaxy tabs? Pretty much the only quality tablet that competes with ipads.

That is an exceptionally kind thing to say, thanks so much!
no comments yet!? good fuckin choice. if this is what you do i subscribe. sittin here after 10pm ready to chill with commentary on these movies i watched growing up. all damn good actors.
Yeah, we had a good time with these movies! We've got a lot more planned, so hopefully you'll dig our future picks!
That's an interesting theory that it may have recognized your age demographic and then made it difficult for you to log in and use it consistently.
Solid review. People relate to end-of-the-world stories. I wish they would do Starcraft 1 and brood war video-game adaptation
Thanks very much! I'd love to see a StarCraft series. Kinda surprised no one has tried it yet, but maybe after Last of Us and this series we'll see more.
Thanks for the spoiler free review!
Happy to do it, thanks for watching the video!
coool show
I think the spell Freedom of Movement will protect you from getting stunned by the Illithid. You guys did have it figured out toward the end on your own, just get the party past everything and into the portal as soon as you can.
Lando figured that one out. My instinct is usually to clear the room, but that's not always the best tactic. He's the brains, I just show up to look pretty and shoot arrows at things.
I said give this man a SUB!
One of your custom characters killed Lae'zel with a crossbow bolt that seemed to have an area of effect. It wasn't Fornix, but the other one. Oh well. You won't see Lae'zel in the epilogue. I hope you guys choose to make an episode of it.
Yeah, I realized that when I looked at this footage a while later. We're planning another run in BG3 soon, so we'll be more careful next time!
I never saw a Tarkovski film, this year I should finally rectify that.
Oh I envy you! To experience either of these movies for the first time! I would love to be able to do that again.
@@ozonenightmare Me too. I don't want to bother you too much, but I like recommending Polish movies to people. I have a few suggestions.
@@PatrickSilent No bother! Send the recommendations along, I love finding new material!
Glad you liked it. It's really great. Szulkin was always celebrated in Poland as one of the best directors.
I loved all 4 films in the set I got. Each one had a unique style while still feeling like the same person shaped the visions. These movies deserve WAY more recognition!
@@ozonenightmare Oh, they are widely known in Poland. Golem was always my favorite. So weird and creepy. Have you watched anything by Juliusz Machulski? Namely Sexmission? A postapocalyptic SF comedy with some good nudity.
@@PatrickSilent No, I'll have to check that one out!
@@ozonenightmare I think anyone from any country can get most of the jokes, but some may be too Polish. A great film.
@@ozonenightmare Jerzy Stuhr, who was the main actor in The End of Civilization, plays the lead in Sexmission and he's hilarious. A very versatile actor.
I love that movie. One of our best. (I'm Polish.) The fourth one, Ga, Ga - Chwala bohaterom, is also great. It's a dark comedy. And by the way, it's pronounced Pyotr Shoolkeen.
These movies are OUTSTANDING. I was really blown away by how great every one I watched is, and that I had never heard of any of them made it even better. I wish I had some way to make more people aware of these films, they are something special.
You should try unsheathing your swords and fighting them at least half the time. Larian makes the rolls tough because they don't want you to talk your way out of the majority of battles. Fighting makes you better at combat. If you really want to talk your way out of most battles, use a high Charisma character like a bard or Wyll and then have Shadowheart for guidance. I am a fan by the way.
Yeah, we definitely got the sense the idea was to make talking your way out much harder in some scenarios than others. On our next run I'm definitely going to go Charisma heavy on one character and more offensive on the other. Thanks for listening!
tanx 4 the rev but a bit disappointed thats u didnt include game video
Happy to do it! Thanks for watching!
this dude is underated
players never look up down or back why
Can't speak for anyone else, but in my case I think it's because I'm a dope 😂

You can save the game in the middle of battle if you wish. Good job guys. I hope you stay with the game!
We EVENTUALLY figured this out! Yes, we stuck with the game all the way through. We actually just finished it and will replay it at some point. A wonderful game top to bottom!
You noted you might do a program comparing the 2 films. Be interesting to hear your thoughts how they compare and/or stand on their own.
Thank you 🎉
Nice video
A number who have read William Lindsay Gresham's novel, feel the 1947 version has more of the focus and spirit of the novel...perhaps in part that it was done within a year of the novel being published. Some took notice when Del Toro said his film would be more of an adaption of the novel, rather than a remake of the 1947 film, but it follows much of the pattern of the earlier film, and adding things not in the novel or previous film: like the scenes with his father.;.. the added violence that wasn't used before. The 1947 film was going to end like the novel, in the carnival boss's trailer, when he talks about being a geek, but they didn't want to end on such a sordid/down note, so they added the scene with a more hopeful ending and moral message given. Del Toro's film does end in the carnival bosses trailer, but still overall some feel the 1947 version is closer to the novel. (you should read the novel...it's online and Amazon, etc. sells cheap copies.). Gresham went in dark places that NEITHER film dealt with, surprising because Del Toro didn't have 1947 sensibilities, The Hays/Breen codes or the studio head who didn't want to make the film in the first place. Note: A month after it's release, Del Toro briefly put out a b/w version of his film which I thought was an improvement....more like the era/genre of the film and the Del Toro visuals that are usually admired, didn't distract as much from the story....but some Del Toro fans didn't like it because they go to see his great visuals/camera/lighting work, and didn't like b/w limiting that.
Interesting that the ending was changed! It did feel a bit off, so it makes sense the final scene was intended to be in the trailer. I do plan to read the book, it sounds fascinating. I should also say the Del Toro version is still a very good movie. I'll be talking about both films in far more detail in the Friday show, and I've pulled audio clips from both to compare. Hope you enjoy that!
@@ozonenightmare Yes, the novel will give you a much wider perspective. Keep in mind the U.S. Postal service labeled the novel as pornographic and banned foreign distribution. Later editions cleaned up the language/activities.
@@diego-search Is the original still available?
@@ozonenightmare The original novel, which includes text and language of the 1946 novel, is for sale on amazon, etc., in low cost reprints. Original copies of the 1946 edition are getting costly,
So much missing potential in this game. It's fun, but it was so close on so many ways. Maybe I'm just getting too old to enjoy these games.
Agreed. Wish it was more engaging.
Ha
I've honestly heard about the elon starlink ukraine thing for months. It's incredibly scummy behaviour.
It really is. We've allowed this person to have an outsized amount of influence on real world events, and now we're seeing the result.
Generally the issues with guilded ages. The problem is, is that our financial system has also faced a number of crashes exposing loopholes for people like Musk to get richer than anyone ever could be at any time before. I'm not sure of the solution, but hopefully, we see it soon.@@ozonenightmare
I enjoyed watching this. I needed this entertainment as well as insight to how you would handle my critic. I dig what you did with the images.

Glad that You liked mate, hope it was a digitalised version. Those colours and over blue looks much better. I guess next Ga-Ga Chwala Bohaterom which translate to Glory to the Heroes.
I actually bought the box set, so the version I saw was in beautiful shape. Vinegar Syndrome has the release, really worth getting it.

Hey, don't worry, a lot of people are still catching up to this great show! <3
Glad I'm not alone, really interested to see where this goes in S2!
@@ozonenightmare Most definitely! ❤️
I find it silly to make any changes to the game, but that’s because I don’t think an audience should have an impact on the creative vision of something. I don’t think that’s how art should work, it isn’t and shouldn’t be a democracy, ever. We run into such an issue now with people feeling entitled to having things their way, you can do this, don’t do that. The policing of artists and art is just nonsensical. But that furthers the point you’re making, the original version should be out there and available in a format that’s accessible and tangible.
Completely agree. The idea that art at some point becomes the property of anyone but the creator is ludicrous.
hails! Really going to miss Lens youtube channel. Can't believe its gone, just like that. Hope to see more fist of the filmmaker, forgotten movie den and tubi tournaments on other platforms.
Well I've got good news for you! A few days after this was recorded Len said screw it and created a new YT channel! It's under the name @thereallenk
@@ozonenightmare Wow, haha. Love it! Hope to see/hear you on there soon.
For all this game lacks, it does seem to have nice set pieces here and there. “Escape Clayface in the sewer on a motorcycle” is a pretty neat idea for a sequence. Obviously, it went on a bit too long and you guys struggled with it more than you probably wanted, but neat as an idea.
I agree, we actually had a good time with the game outside of the bad story
