Dark Souls III first playthrough: Yhorm the Giant
Recently, I started my first playthrough of Dark Souls III. I've watched several playthroughs of it, so it's by no means a blind playthrough, I just hadn't gotten around to playing it yet myself. Catacombs of Carthus and the Smouldering Lake explored, it was time to head down to Irithyll, whence I took a detour through the Irithyll Dungeon to the Profaned Capital. I broke Siegward out of jail for this, but unfortunately he bought it on my first try, where I was thrown off balance because the Storm Ruler made me fat roll and I couldn't salvage the situation before Yhorm flattened me. Got him on my third try, though.

he's the type of person who had nothing else to do with humanity so he just kindled the flame cuz why not
@@Oreninoo if you're talking about me, well, yeah, I die a lot in this game so I'm bad at keeping soft humanity. And also need the heals. Well, less so in ng+ but I kindled the flames on ng and they stay kindled for the same character.
Being a sorcerer is complete suffering in New Game, then obliterating everything like an angry god in NG+. Once you get Dark Bead, it is OVER for your enemies. You go from having problems to being the problem
@@SanctuaryReintegrate I'd say only the beginning of NG is suffering, if even that. You can get extra spells from Rickert fresh out of the Asylum and have enough casts to get through everything easy peasy. Granted, a painless sorcery run requires you to know what you're doing, so if it's one's first run, then yeah, it'll be pain.
Thank you, it helped me a lot! 😀

wtf is that damage
@@Drixiem surprisingly high? Surprisingly low? If the former, I'm stacking lots of INT, bellowing dragoncrest ring, tin crystallization catalyst and Dusk's crown, all of which boost magic. If the latter, it's NG+ and ol' Arty has a bigger HP pool than in NG. Though I do suppose you mean the former. Sorcery is kinda OP in DS1.
@@gmorflord i didnt expect that high of damge, congrats btw

@@CarmenQuincy-g2h say what?
first fase is really easy even with the cross attack, but second fase just goes nuts, malenia had 2 new special attacks and her normal attacks had a new finishing move, but radahn not only has more damage and defense, he also has changed the attack pattern, all of his attacks feel like special attacks, and the attack windows are very narrow, you avoid perfectly a 20 combo to finally attack with a roll attack, and you might get too greedy by attacking that time.
@@jesusvera7941 now, first of all, this video is like 3 weeks old and I have actually beaten the boss 2 weeks ago. That said, I admit I didn't learn it near perfectly yet, let alone know when it's actually safe to do the jumping twinblade attack, which is the basis of my playstyle (on this character; I'll try other styles on other characters when I get there). Having said that, I did feel like this boss was too hard when I first faced him, but hours of training proved him doable indeed. Still really hard, mind, but ultimately doable.
@@gmorflord definitely, it is doable and very very cool, from the music, the visuals, the attacks look neat and avoiding them feels so rewarding, but i have seen some technical data, like hitboxes and frame analysis and there is some attacks that are quite cheap, the sole fact that the holy rays deal poise damage is quite a exaggeration that fall into the definition of artificial difficulty.
@@jesusvera7941 fair point. Then again, people are already no-hitting him. If I thought myself actually good at playing this game, I might be of the opinion that he is too difficult.
@@gmorflord well im not a fan of the argument: "there is a guy who played the whole the game naked and with only fists", because those are freaks... skilled, dedicated and with razor sharp reflexes, even then, no-hit-ers have agility enchanced builds, the average player depends on making mistakes and being able to recover from them, it feels better when the boss is a little forgiving, just a little, something malenia and radahn are strangers to.
@@jesusvera7941 I don't disagree with you that it's a small subset of players who can no-hit the boss, all I'm saying is it can be done. Also, I think different builds are better equipped to deal with different things. Like, I did decent damage even though I had to sacrifice at least one of my damage talismans to equip the better rolls talisman, but on the other hand that made me even more of a glass cannon. In other words, this is not a build I would recommend to people playing this for the first time.
I was on the edge of my seat lol. Great attempt though. Only in Souls games do I get that feeling while watching someone else play.
@@AstonishingRed indeed. I spend a lot of my idle time at work watching soulsborne playthroughs and I can relate 100%.
damn, I wont last 10 seconds without my mimic.
@@bonk9614 in my estimate just finding an opening to summon the mimic was pretty difficult already. I've heard parrying and guard counters work well, though I've not tried any shield strats myself.
@@gmorflordwhy would you need to change your style to beat a single mandatory boss? you are using double twinblades, a shield can not fit in your strategy, changing talismans is already too much.
@@jesusvera7941 I'm not saying I'm going to change my strats, I'm giving ideas to others who might be struggling. I did in fact beat the boss already two weeks ago using these exact strats (this video is like 3 weeks old at this point) but the backlog of videos I have coming up mean it won't come out until early October.
I gotta replay the trilogy as a spellcaster…
@@KishorTwist I haven't played DS2 or 3 yet, so I can't speak for them, but in DS1 it's pretty good fun, I wholly recommend it.
Easily my favorite boss from the base game, I love this fight. Nicely done, my best try so far was first phase no summons then second with mimic (hand-to-hand arts blood infused, absolutely great) but I'll get to no summons fights since I'm practicing a lot.
@@para-noxis bleed works against him very well but it's a double edged sword since he also gets a buff every time there's a bleed proc in the vicinity, including if it procs on him. It's no problem, though, if you can proc a bleed on most of your hits. I just did him the other day dual wielding blood infused twinblades and I don't think he got as far as 'unus' (and I had the purifying tear in my physick flask just in case, which I could've replaced with something else to do even more damage). It almost felt like cheating. I'll get to uploading the clip in the future.

Did Miyazaki buff Casting Speed in Remastered version? why it almost instant cast with only 12 dex
@@SifGuguk good question, though I'm afraid I don't know the answer. I've never played the original, though I do own PtDE on Steam, so I might give it a try at some point to see if there's a difference.
Likely it's related to the FPS boost remastered got.
@@MassiveKittenFire-vw1cw could be, though a cursory googling provided no relevant results. Also, apparently dex will not affect casting speed until it's 35 or more. That would be a hefty investment for a sorc run.

there is a better way to do this parry cheese and its to parry, riposte, heal, repeat. @@imshreksy4734 yeah, I've learned that since. But also if you're running sorcery, you can parry him once and spam about 3 dark beads from point blank range, probably fewer with RTSR setup, which I haven't tried myself yet, and there's not a whole lot he can do. th-cam.com/video/YZ0GXwJmhLo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9PNK9NXnycRGKaJY

Indeed. Beyond ridiculous how they make an enemy that has thousands of HP yet only gives a few seconds of opportunity to attack before raining down instakill fire.
Yeah. There are ways you can position yourself to not get burned instantly, some cheesier and some less cheesy, but I've not learned them yet. Instead, I went for blitzkrieg tactics, which backfired. But I've cut the Hellkite Drake's tail from under the bridge with dark bead previously. Shoot the tail while the drake is sitting on top of the building, which will make it hop down and bring the tail momentarily over the side of the bridge where you can shoot it with a well-aimed blast.
When you forget why you hate blighttown. *dies* Ah yes, fuck that place.
Exactly. "Do I need anything on that side? No. Did I take the master key? No. Fuck!"
Try locking on less as it prevents the camera going crazy. Zwei is a top tier weapon, and it is kinda boring. Try the halberd for another long reach two hander instead. Upgrade your armor and weapons to +5 with Andre as equipment matters 10x more than levels. +5 black leather set is pretty good.
Yeah, that was my first time fighting Capra back in 2022. I've since fought Capra some 20 times and platted the game.
