Raised in an Italian-American home, Janet's earliest memories of cooking date back over 50 years. At five years old, she recalls standing on a small wooden step stool next to her grandmother making pasta for the family's weekly main event, Sunday dinner. The house would be full of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Even though her grandmother spoke little English, she could sense that Janet (among the youngest of the children) would make the perfect apprentice and could manage to stay out of trouble if she remained in the kitchen. Each week, pasta was made by hand and laid on a clean sheet on the bed. Her grandmother's lessons proved to be valuable when Janet's mother, plagued with chronic illness, was often unable to prepare meals for her family. As the oldest of four children and a father working long days to provide for his family, Janet began experimenting with ingredients to create dishes she continues to serve today. She hopes you enjoy recreating her most famous dishes!
