Palmer 09/11/22 Race1 - Formula Vee

This was the morning Formula Vee qualifying race with the SCCA/NEFV at Palmer on 9/11/22. I got caught up in an incident on lap 1 and lost a lot of positions. While fighting back I spun by coming in a little too hot to turn 4. Track was a little damp, but nothing crazy.

SCCA Formula Vee morning race at Palmer, September 12, 2021. After a poor start I had a great, three-way battle for 5th, 6th and 7th. I finished 7th. I totally missed white flag while fumbling with a tear-off and then missed the checkered flag which can be really dangerous. The main flag stand is so hard to see at this track, but lesson learned as I need to be more aware.

Final of the weekend/season. Accident in turn1 caused some damage. 1 car drops oil and keeps going. A second group of accidents occurs at turn 3. Race was black flagged. My damage looks to be a bent leading arm, broken header, broken transaxle seal, and busted nose.

This is my final lap around the Nurburgring Nordschleife. July 2015. I rented a prepped Suzuki Swift from Rent4Ring. (rent4ring.com) I highly recommend them. It was an amazing experience.

Wild, last night I did my first race in iracing and it was in a formula vee at longford!
What kind of resin coating did you use on the outside of the bladder?
I didn't make the bladder, just re-foamed it. However, I did coat some of it with Seal All, a fuel safe glue just because I had the cell out. I am not sure that stuff did anything...wasn't leaking before and still isn't.

How do you put foam inside a fuel tank
I made the foam the basic shape, then I cut it into blocks and strips. I put each block in by scrunching it up and shoving it in. Then I would use whatever I could, like screwdrivers, dowels or forceps to position it. I would then place the next block in. I did that until it was full. Once you get going it's not that bad. Newer fuel cells have access panels. AND, if your cell is in good shape you can buy the parts to make an access hole yourself.
Good run into that first corner and nice work avoiding that spin!
Cool trick with heating the x-acto knife. An electric carving knife also gets the job done nicely. Let us know when you need a new bladder!
Love it! Good work! I would leave more of a gap at the top of the cell so that you can easily see when you are getting close to full. My cell has at least 2 inches from the top to where the foam starts. It might even be 3 inches.
