The guys from ZZ Top were big fans and apparently had an expression when writing songs and stuck used WWLD (What would Lightning do?)
Exquisite!
Rock on brother
Thankyou as always dear friend
He taught Jimi Hendrix how to pick the blues
You know that's right!
And just like that I am back in the early seventies, when sweaty blues was real. Keep it up!

T-Bone was the best of all time cause every blues singer Whated to sound like him
All Black Artists got screwed on their record deals he was know exception but he still had put out some nice music which I still listen too this day. Thanks for posting this.👍🏾
Yeah mate happy to keep the music and attention alive, we need to examine history in all its forms You're very welcome TBone deserves all the love! A very influential bloke who was absolutely fantastic!
Apparently T-Bone got royally screwed on the royalties from this song.
That's such a shame but unfortunately not surprising. Do you recall where you heard about this?
@benwhitebluesmusic I actually read a biography of T-Bone. It was years ago and I can't remember what it was called, though it probably could be found online. The way I remember the royalties thing, it was involving the Allman Brothers recording of it on their live album. What I remember is that something to do with the wording of the song title was a loophole that got them out of paying royalties, though I don't see how that would matter if the words and music were the same.
@@benwhitebluesmusicP.S.- I just looked it up on Wikipedia. It was Bobby Bland's version where the title created the confusion. You can also find a T-Bone biography on Google Books. Don't know if it's the same one I read, this one says published in 1999, but I read the one in the 80's.
Appreciate your diligent research!
@@benwhitebluesmusic I was curious about the book- it seemed to me that a full length biography of T-Bone Walker might actually be fairly obscure nowadays since I read it so long ago. Not sure of the one I found is the same one, but it's nice to know it's out there!
God Bless you FATS DOMINO a New Orleans treasure

I’m a huge fan!

Really nice 👌🏼 great edit🙂♥️🎶
thankyou Debi glad you approve! I felt the flame imagery was certainly appropriate! Are you doing better?
Sounds great - authentic blues. Puts me in mind of Cream / blues breakers vibe. 🔥

The cd collection is optimal for blues homework!
Nice
Brilliant!!
The Wolf certainly was! A magical voice!
Crap compilation with crap sound quality. Howling Wolf is awesome though. Get the best audio quality and all the best tracks, from Chess MCA boxed set of Howling Wolf. You won’t regret it !
@snakehips81 respectfully I disagree snakey, this was my introduction to Wolf so has sentimental value to me, while I agree his chess stuff is brill, you can't go round shouting on the Internet like you do
@ - like when ? To be fair, my introduction to Elmore James was a cheap compilation album LP - but in the days before those really cheap Cd’s that came with the magazine. When I else have I gone “shouting around the internet” ? Can you give some examples, to justify that comment ? Much respect to you too !
@snakehips81 no examples off the top of my head but - If you don't like something feel free to scroll on by, And many of your comments I see are extended essays on the merits of XYZ guitar pickup or ABC guitar amp, now me not being a gearhead, it passes me by. Also you don't like Dixons bass sound on Folk Singer and I can't hear your concerns myself, fact is I like it too so horses for courses. Not my intention to sound like a prat so sorry for that but surely you see how it might come across. *now hark at him writing an essay in response!*
Good shit
thanks my man!
I gave Robert a go back about 1981, and I've been enjoying his blues every since. It's amazing how many hit rock songs are Robert Johnson.
That's what we like to hear! He was very accomplished and had a big impact. But he also could replicate many bluesman from before him like Lonnie and Scrapper
Rock on man
Always brother
Very nice my man
Thankyou James :)

Ha, I've just literally come off the piano where I was attempting to play Barrelhouse Woman with the octave walking bass. Finding that a bit easier than the (faster, swung boogie) Sunnyland Slim one I've been trying in G (the D in the turnaround is tricky to keep the feel with, because of the Gb). It's also tricky doing anything of interest in the right hand, hah. Anyway, enjoyed hearing you Ben. Were you working from any source or just with your toolbox?
@@rwrinn I was just trying to use the Sloppy Drunk left hand approach with any floridities stolen from Spann's similar grooves with my right hand!
@@benwhitebluesmusic I've only really listened to Spann passively, mostly many years ago when listening to Muddy - is he stylistically steeped in any particular players' or regional styles?
@rwrinn to my ears he is as pure blues as can be, whilst possessing a deep intuitive knowledge of people like Blind John Davies, Sunnyland, Leroy Carr and maybe Montgomery although I haven't listened to as much of him. Basically everyone who came before him in my opinion. If you can find the album Spann cut in 1960 with Lockwood that will give your ears lots to work with
@@benwhitebluesmusic I actually have that on the laptop and a handful of other Spanns, but it never pops into my head to get in about it somehow - always gravitating towards the 30s and 40s stuff I suppose. Will give him more of a whirl.
@rwrinn Spinn the Spann Senor Rinn!

I could not even begin to choose just 5 albums. Your choices are great though. A good place to start and discover more of this incredible music. I don't wnat to sound condescending but it's great to see someone from the younger generation getting into the blues (I'm old and have been extolling the virtues of the blues for more years than I care to count).
@grayfool thanks a lot for recognising the appreciation I have for this excellent music! I could have been here for much longer than I already was. There's so much good stuff to choose from and we're all always discovering new things even now!
I’ve a request, a top 5 on harmonica based albums maybe? Would be interesting I think
