PATRICK MACKAY | Serial Killer Interview - BBC Documentary | 1990
Fragments from the BBC Documentary where serial killer Patrick Mackay appears in approximately 7 minutes.
In 1975, he was convicted of three manslaughters due to diminished responsibility and sentenced to life imprisonment for a minimum period of 20 years.
A 36-year-old Patrick Mackay makes a sudden appearance on a TV documentary: He had been transferred from a segregration unit at HMP Parkhurst along with 9 of the hardest prisoners in the country to an experimental unit at Hull.
At the beginning, he seems curious but mature looking, wiryer, with an 80's hair and tash.
In his accommodation, two cellmates help him move his luggage, which contains art supplies and finished art works. The themes of these, according to many, are countryside, villages, cities, all traced back to England possibly in the mid or early 20th century. During this year, Paul Sykes auditioned as a fundraiser for a club one of Mackay's paintings.
Clearly, plastic arts were a great passion in his life and had a positive effect on his behaviour in prison as well as gardening and reading. But even so, it took him forty years to get to a category D prison, in which he had problems to cope with a new "automatic" world. He's begging to be released in a parole hearing until now.
He appears to be in a room with another prisoner, talking amicably about his previous stays in other prisons.
Afterwards, a prison supervisor gives further explanation about the experimental unit.

They are just like npc characters, especially when they are in groups how amusing 🌚
They live like in some sort of hotel, do they? What is going on there?
I've met Mackay twice: once in February 72 in Finchley, and again in Wormwood Scrubs in December 84 (Nilsen was there too). The first time I was a school kid bunking off school. I was twelve and scxared so I hid on some steps in an alleyway at the bottom of Queens Avenue in Finchley. Mackay came along, tall, gaunt and dressed in a trenchcoat. He asked me what I was up to and I told him I was bunking off. He then told me that he had a knife and was going to wait round the corner (in a side alley) and would stab me when I left. Naturally I was scared and sat there until well after dark when I made a break for it. Of course, no one was waiting.

His whole aura is that of a gay man. Probably a lot of self hatred, I am guessing very repressed and that as a child, his Scottish father tried to "make a man out of him".
