How to build the structure of a composite deck. It uses regular pressure treated wood as composite is not a structural material. You must conform to local building codes but a 12" joist spacing is necessary to support the composite decking. Putting a little extra into the structure would be a wise decision. The composite decking will last a very long time so you will want to make sure the struc...

    Why the overhang though? I believe my current boards are 12’ so I don’t really want to spend extra money on 16’ Trex boards if I’m going to be trimming so much. Could I just get 12’ Trex boards?

    That tab on the hidden fasteners is not good. Great idea at first glance, But what if you have to replace one board in the future? The Trex hidden fasteners can slide out with ease for board replacement.

Finally, My Shed Plans satisfies me with a wide range of design to choose from [Go Here=>**lovy.biz/vcaz** ]. After 9 years my deck and frame were goners. Ripped it all out. Made frame with recycled plastic beams and fastened composite decking with the same hidden fasteners I used for the wood decking. Yes it expands and contracts in the weather but don't need to treat and its weatherproof. Only needs to be cleaned and that's it. Used what wood was still usable to build garden shed.

    Depending on a Country you live in , i still believe vinyl decking such as Weatherdek , Duradek , Eurodek , tuffdek etc will outlast any of these products . Think about it this way . With composite wood or pvc boards your deck frame is exposed to water , snow , sun etc which means over time your boards will be ok but your frame needs to be replaced . As for vinyl membrane your deck is a 100% waterproofed which means it protects your deck frame as well . 20 years down the road if you are sick of the colour you have , take it off and replace with new one , your deck frame will be a 100% like new .

    It really amazes me that people are willing to spend a fortune on composite material that will outlast the most important part of the deck, the backbone. So you're willing to pay 3'x more for a material that will last a good 20 years plus, however the structure will fail and all of the expensive material will need to be stripped from your framing so the framing can be rebuilt. Good luck putting it all back together after that. Shouldn't the backbone, the foundation be the most important building block?? All you're doing is wasting your money on a cosmetic that will outlast the backbone of your deck. You're still going to be in the same boat as you would be if you just go with pressure treated lumbar. Only you wont have to spend 3x's the money. This composite material is a scam. Why don't you question "WHY" they can't make composite framing material. Seriously people, stop wasting your money on this garbage!! You're still going to have to replace the framing and all of that ridiculously expensive composite decking you put down is going to need to be torn apart regardless. Just use pressure treated and save a ton of money. Think about it, that same pressure treated decking board the composite sales man is knocking is the same pressure treated wood they use to build the framing. Sure the decking will last, but the framing wont. That's the part the salesman fails to tell you when he talks you into spending 4 grand on decking vs 1500 on pressure treated. Carpenter and skilled tradesman for 25 yrs.

      Ricky Ric I call BS. A PT joist and beam atructure that is off the ground will sufficiently will allow for any moisture to dry. Composite looks so good. PR wood on the surface as a decking will crack and splinter. Or use cedar. Don't cheap out on materials.

      Moon Pie i do vinyl decking and i ran into a lot of 25 year old decks that frame was rotten to the point of no return . Demo the full deck and new build . These composite or pvc boards are good for countries that don’t have a lot of weather change . I live in Edmonton AB , and due to so much snow , rain and warm summers those P/T decks do not last long . Wood will rot no matter what if exposed to weather we have .

  • @traskjay
    @traskjay 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    your first and last piece of decking cannot expand and contract if they are screwed down. meanwhile, the field of the decking will push away from the house and leave a gap. they would need gap at the house. I've seen lots of composite decking rip screws right out because of inadequate gapping. sorry for trolling but it's the truth.

      @@blainerueckwald I'm in Texas, 102+ and super humid percentages. My deck does not expand nor contracts. and I even use the end fasteners. Once they are in, they are in. It's composite material not wood. If you did it right it won't move. It's the wood you screwed them too is the worries but if you didn't get the wood from HD you should be good to go.

    No, cut it at a 45 degree or 22.5 so you have a nice finish on the corner, you do it like that and it will look like dog shit. They also sell special screws that allow expansion and contraction. Wonderful screws.
