    all I could figure out is that the ten of hearts is only shown for a single "frame" on the cardback animation so I imagine the off the shelf version involves sneaking in the card you need to the bottom of the deck in order to end the animation

      Thanks for your comment. Many people mistakenly believe I'm involved with the day-to-day operations of Penguin Magic. Actually, I was simply the "face" of Penguin (merely a hired-hand) for many years. I enjoyed my time with them, they were great to work with, but I have once again returned to independent production.

      @@TheAnantaSesa Very unlikely. The whole point of the plushie toss is that it's a random-ish way to pick people. More generally, if you have stooges who lie for you, then a whole ton of "tricks" become possible that aren't really stage magic but are just lying, so they're generally avoided. The rare times they are done, they're open about it (e.g. "assistants" in a duo act on stage who pretend to pick randomly are fair game).

    Acts using the camera angle are so weak and Penn n Teller know exactly what is going on.With the camera flipping all over there is no way to see what is going on and for that matter using the audience doesn't cut it because they could have easily been planted especially since he only tosses the doll once because more than once leaves room for error.

    How was the audience mic'd up?

    • @Evan_Horvath
      @Evan_Horvath 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They use a process called, "video editing," whereby they actually "edit" the video so you don't see that portion. It's actually pre-recorded, and not a live broadcast, so the parts of the show that aren't interesting or entertaining, such as stopping to mic the audience during the performance can be edited out by the aforementioned process, so that what you see is a seamless, streamlined experience. Fascinating, I know!

    Pause at 3:15 and play at 0.50x speed the card before the chosen card has two X's at the top of the card, where the drawing is, and then the next card is the chosen card. All he has to do is switch one card. He can draw 52 of the same images but with the guy holding a different card and easily switch the card with whatever he has behind his table. It's pretty easy to have them labeled and easily accessed. The drawing at the end doesn't have to be perfect, as far as how the stick figure is drawn out because of that card before it. Our eyes/brain fill in the blanks. Or if he doesn't have the 52 cards by his table, he can easily have them on himself. Also, also, if he's forcing the 10 of hearts, then it really still doesn't matter. Also, also, also. I have no idea. I'm not a neurological astronaut helicopter pilot.

      There's only 26 choices , 26 sets of 2 cards which he lifts 2 at a time. Next to the target the 10 hearts is another card whose back is a cartoon holding that card.. slot to end.invert that card swop it in to form the animation.

    I was going to make a comment about how I've been noticing a recent trend to demonstrate magic with a cathartic spiritual storytelling presentation in the main stream magic scene. But then I realized this video is from 10 years ago. Though I do credit Bizarre Magick for introducing the idea of a shamanic purpose for magical presentation. This is a great way of reintroducing performing an oldie but a goodie straight out of The Discovery of Witchcraft. Great work Dan Harlan!😊

      As he flips through the cards at the end, it is only the very last card that is the reveal -- correct? Another words, in this trick only the very last card displays the ten of hearts. Am I correct about this? If I am, then wouldn't the only thing needed the is a card from under the table to slip in? Edit: There is an editorial cut at 2:35. At completely precludes the possibility for the TV viewing public to see anything dirty going on in that moment. Am I on the right track?

    Maybe it's that i'm completely oblivious about the origins of this trick... maybe it was the snappy editing... but it took me a really long time to actually understand what's the fuss about, what's the big reveal supposedly at the end. So they suspected that the previously hidden upper halves of the cards each hold a graphic for all the other cards besides the ten of hearts? That would be a clever compact way to do the trick, but i personally never suspected that, but a simple insertion of an extra card with the right graphic. So he was awarded because he choose a less elegant approach?

    • @philrose6226
      @philrose6226 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kind of, Dan harlem invented cardtoon and you can by it in magic stores everywhere, it's been a best seller for years, so pretty much everybody in the magic community own it and know the og method. On the show Dan used a different method, but made it look identical to the og. So Penn and teller were completely suckered, watching his moves they would be thinking oh yeah there it is, the secret move, he's just doing cardtoon that we all know.
