Council District 6 Mobility Debate - Special Election 2023
Yes. I want to help make sure all of those workers lose their jobs and livlihoods. Where do I sign up?
This is so awesome! His airline really need to let him store his bike inside somewhere tho 😄
I see the word "mobility" and I think enclosed mobility scooters, and how the disabled are sometimes meeting resistance from government and non disabled people. Enclosed look like tiny cars and that confuses those new with them in a bad way. It is important that government and non disabled understand these are vehicles that are slower than real cars, can fit one adult, and sometimes an additional adult or two small children in the back. These are important for disabled people. The enclosure is nice for protecting occupant(s) and contents from rain, splash from puddles, and wind. It adds security for purchases, etc so more than one stop can be made, and generally add a lot of independence and efficiency. They think all disabled have less importance as to how they spend their days, and any efficiency they experience is extraneous, extravagant and impertinent. Most imagine them as layabouts instead of having jobs, families, or any life in general. Would like to see disabled accessibility a bigger part of the city planning/access conversation.
This was so much fun. I want this every weekend!
In Sacramento California, The light rail was commissioned in 1987. The Sacramento international Airport is about 12 miles north of downtown and to this day the light rail does not go from downtown to the airport. You have get on a clogged up I-5 two lanes in one direction freeway. Most of the land was farms not so long ago, now bunches of houses and apartments are next the freeway. Still no light rail to the airport. Government run anything is a joke.
Project failure
Amsterdam is way more fun to visit than la and it’s a city famous for walking and biking
I'd like to see a movement among us, regular citizens, to crowdsource making giving up your car, even for one or two trips a week, and walking/biking/taking transit normal. I'd like for us to be the ones who make it popular to give up driving when possible so that it changes the calculation that city council members and hopefuls make when they consider whether to remove parking or not. What happens when we encourage our neighbors, family, and friends to go car light or car free? When there are lots of empty parking spaces and streets that aren't being driven on? Council members would look at transit policies in a much more favorable light. People like me, who drove everywhere, yet often were driving three miles or less and would've easily saved thousands by giving up my car, are the ones who could be persuaded. It was only after losing two cars to hit and runs that I went car free, somewhat reluctantly, but I quickly came to love it. Now I'm defiantly car free, though I don't think anyone else needs to be. I do it partly because I love it and partly to send a small signal to others each time I board transit, walk, or bike that there is one more person using these modes of transportation, that there is one more constituent who doesn't give thousands of their dollars a year to operating a car, and one person who will support more transit friendly policies. I'd like for us to spread that message, crowdsource it, whatever, so that leaders won't need to be pressured to support transit or to exert pressure to get support for transit, but will support an already eager populace for transit.

What does the S=
@@AkivaYavin I listened to all the responses from the candidates and then ranked the candidates using the tier list style according to how they prioritize human well being over car well being. I used the tier list structure, which ranks things on a S-F scale. It's like the A-F grading scale used in schools, but S tier means extremely good or exceptional.
Remove all freeways within city limits!

405 is the largest most gridlocked free in Los Angeles and it runs straight through affluent neighborhoods
People were displaced...but they did not desapear. They stay arround. What's the drama? And they were paid for the houses...
Educate people to drive better
Don’t agree with this…. But I Do agree we need to triple down on streetcar or monorail type construction… the one HUGE thing they completely ignored is the population growth of the area during that time. Free subsidies for busses and trolley is a Great idea. I grew up in that city and there is almost No Way to travel there except by car
When the government was adding a new HOV lane on the 10 fwy, for a temporary time period, the NEW HOV was used as normal lane and everyone just flew through those portions, but as soon as they finished all the improvements, and turned it back to an HOV, traffic began to slow as could no longer maneuver around the grandma's and lawn mowers and class b straight trucks driving in the faster lanes. Nevertheless it was still faster with that new lane added even though its not a normal lane. If those in power would stop playing games, fwy's would be faster. But they really do like to hamstring fwy's just to prove a somewhat false point. But most commenters here seem to out of their minds and just drinking the coolaid. They don't even describe the population levels and number cars of on the road at that time and where most people traveled to get to work. There's to many questions in my head they fools never even addressed. The title of this video should be titled "Streets for some but not for All, how Los Angeles Politicians and Land Developers Destroyed Mobility.
Streets for All, Move LA, and Abundant Housing LA are the 3 best and most impactful advocacy orgs in Los Angeles. Safe streets, rapid transit, and affordable housing. The city is failing on all 3 fronts so these orgs are critical to fixing our city.
And the city is one of greatest on earth economically because of it, not to mention California that has a higher gdp than most European countries, sorry we don’t have outdated infrastructure? Sorry are greatest cities don’t have 600 odd year old layouts lol
Where is your helmet?
all the money went to hyperloopers . rather than fast train. like the rest of the world
Do you really own something if it can be taxed, taken, then bulldozed without your consent?
i get absolutely livid seeing these overlays of befores/afters... the car culture in LA/America has to and WILL change. thank you Streets for All and HLA for advocating for safer streets and better urban design!
its so crazy how we keep expanding freeways instead of building up the metro. we couldve had a sepulveda line already instead of still fighting over it
Thank you for this!

Next time, put their names on the screen while they speak! And why am I looking at the timer!!
In general I just believe megacities shouldn’t be created at all. Not just because traffic is a problem but in terms of most general issues. I’m born in a city with more than 10 million and have lived here and there, including small cities like Stratford Ontario and Kaltenkirchen Germany, to midsized cities like London Ontario. In my personal experience, London Ontario with 450k population is probably the maximum size of a city that don’t have to go through megacity problems. I mean 450k without being a suburbia of another bigger city. Smaller cities are even greater. Stratford has about 30k and I believe Kaltenkirchen Germany was about the same size, serving as the terminus of Greater Hamburg metro. My life was fantastic in these cities since I care more for bonded community and cleaner air meanwhile I don’t care to live around everything considered cool, happily willing to travel to Hamburg 50 minutes away if I needed those cool factors. Everything comes at a price. There has to be a compromise between the benefits and the downsides. That’s my bottom line.
so you dont want cities to grow so you can keep living a wasteful way of life? thanks, opinion discarded
lol . Threatened with extinction
Nury Martinez preaching about shameful 😂 she should know.
she was a thicc milf tho
Don't believe what Schneider and SFA are selling. These guys are backed by big money and that's all this is about. They are trying to get their $2 million to conduct a "study" that has widespread opposition. EVEN KAREN BASS HAS DENOUNCED HER SUPPORT FOR THIS PROJECT! They use incorrect and misleading numbers and studies. This won't be affordable housing, and it's all about the retail $$, and is quite literally a money grab by Michael Schneider and Streets for All, or Streets FOR NO ONE!!! Please don't support this proposal from this group of Fake-tivists!!! By the way, there are numerous parks and open spaces in this area, not to mention Ballona Wetlands and the beaches. Don't buy into this BS! These guys are al about the money and they don't care that traffic spills through in neighborhoods with kids.
Great discussion! It's great seeing all the candidates these candidates excited about the projects It's a little hard for me to sense which one would be the most bold and effective toward public transit, but I guess that's hard to gauge from a debate format
Michael and Ed are two committed, passionate men that are making a real difference. Great work!
But you had to say about the 405 is absolutely wrong Since they added the carpool and traffic has gotten better and not just for people in carpool. I drive that road 5 6 days a week and have for the last 25 years. Before they added those lanes, you were guaranteed an hour just through the pass. Now it's maybe 15 minutes 20 minutes depending on traffic per se.. You filthy liberals need to get your shit right.. Why didn't you mention the 101? It goes right through a rich neighborhood in the valley from one end of the valley to the other 101 runs through the richest part of the of the city. When they built a 105 that was through white people houses three times are out of control with your making the facts say what you want them to say... You are what's wrong with America?
Are dumb? Only because there is a freeway trough a white neighborhood doesnt change the fact that its mostly african American communities. And what about the the 10 other arguments dont they matter?
As mentioned in the video, history shows that any increase to freeway capacity, will only temporarily nets positive changes in commute times. Because the result of those positive changes will induce more car trips.
Really dumb idea for this area as it would leave this part of West LA inundated in traffic forever. Streets for All would like most LA residents to travel on bike and buses. This proposal is trying to force the 15 minute city agenda on Angelenos by disconnecting their neighborhoods from each other. Already a huge amount of residents have complained about this proposal and Mayor Karen Bass, Supervisor Holly Mitchell and Councilwoman Traci Park don't support this proposal or any need for a $2 million dollar feasibility study to give to an unqualified non-profit Streets for All who has ZERO experience in spearheading, designing and managing a project of this magnitude. They basically want to steal 130 acres of prime West LA land for a $5-10 Billion dollar development project in the future. No thank you! Show less
When you copied and pasted your comment, you forgot to not copy the "Show less," NPC
LA needs to invest more in it's public transportation system. Just because it has large swaths of land that's desirable to build on doesn't mean highways are the answer. I say, keep the highways. But promote public transportation so that more citizens are inclined to use it instead of the highways.
This is vital artery for locals and will inhibit access to beach communities to those not fortunate enough to live adjacent to the beach by adding congestion to the only two available surface level streets that would provide access. Where was this viability study when they destroyed the adjacent wetlands in favor of housing and office structures for Silicon Beach? Please invest your $2 Million dollars in solving for the Culver City unhoused vs. taking away a vital transportation path leveraged by neighboring communities.
It is impressive no one has stolen his bike in 3 years. I had my u lock cut last week 2 stolen bikes in 7 years and they stole the tires on a third bike.
Why don't thet just build train line to connect outside la to the city center
They have several, they're just plagued by poor frequency, poor span of service, lack of transit oriented development around its stations and an overall lack of investment in that infrastructure.
Let’s remove the 90!
Let's make it happen.
But this is not ADA compliant on a massive scale! Think of all the mentally disabled carbraindead upstanding Angelenos. Think of all the otistic college kids that cannot navigate the bus system. Think of all the retired seniors and their guests who have to get to and from their boats.
YES! I need to get to my boat every day. I'm a 85 year old autistic disabled citizen, also known as the majority of the population. Fortunately, as an autistic person, I can drive, and as an 85 year old man with somehow very fast reflexes, I can also drive safely: both my car and boat I guess. Like who u speaking for bru
Really bad idea. This will create tons of gridlock and idling pollution on local streets. Also, the wetlands are being developed into a 6 mile park and Kenneth Hann is a gient park near the end of the freeway.
"The amount of additional carbon emissions as a result of the gridlock that would be created" My brother in Christ the *freeway* is the source of carbon emissions and gridlock.
By the 405.
Why not just build a park instead of condos and a park.
Because they are backed by big money and that's all this is about. They are trying to get their $2 million to conduct a "study" that has widespread opposition.
