How I Drove 30 Cars In a Year (Without Owning One)
i love your videos! keep 'em coming
Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it!
Very helpful. Though in our country we drive at righthand
Where are you from?
i live in germany and about 1.5 years ago when was practicing driving with my driving teacher its an obligation to spend at least 3 hours on the autobahn (german highway). in diving school i was a very bad driver and got absolutely traumatized by highway speeds because it was just so much to process for me at the same time and merging lanes in germany are very short. however, even after i passed my test i still continued to irrationally carry that fear with me until about bit over half a year later or so i intentionally forced myself to go on the highway one day to gain confidence and it actually was kinda fun since i improved my driving by quite a lot since getting out of driving school. as of today, ive spent much more time on highways including many long-distance trips and actually managed to safely and responsibly hit speeds exceeding 225kph (140mph) so thank you for this video, my past-me could acutally kinda relate to your sister in that sense😅
Thank you for your comment! I love how disciplined people are on the road in Germany and how much safer it is to drive on city streets and autobahns. It is awesome that you have gained so much confidence and have overcome the fear. (I’ve definitely been there.) Past-me would also benefit from watching a video like this, and that’s exactly the reason I made it!
Got a 2017 Jetta for 8000 which is 119K miles (SE version ). We had to change the breaks but when the car is maintained well, it was a good deal. Unfortunately, all the Japanese cars were overpriced.
Yeah, that was the reason I went to do more research and found out about my 2012 Jetta as well!
Is this from the Noname brand?
Yeah
This is also my first car and i still have it. 2011 2.5 bought at 83k miles for 9200.. i have done some mods to it like coilovers, wheels, muffer delete, etc. Its not perfect because of its age but it is pretty reliable and sounds pretty damn good
i bought mine back on 2019 for my vw polo 2010 tsi, it was the best investment / quality update i did for the car. It works flowless since then.
Great video. More people need to realize the importance of cruising on the right-lane and stop hogging the left lanes. 1). When driving around Bay Area (in California), I prefer to cruise on lane #2 since I've noticed lane #1 usually becomes "exit only" or has several cars trying to merge into it during high traffic hours. This makes lane #1 stressful to cruise in compared to lane #2. 1a). We can tell when a lane is becoming exit only by observing the gap between the white paints and the length of the white paint on the road. If the gap is large and the white paint blocks are long: it is a normal lane on the highway. If the gap between the white paint, and the length of each paint block becomes shorter: that lane is going to become exit-only. So if you don't wish to take that exit, make sure you are on the left of the smaller white blocks. 2). When talking about passing (especially at 9:19 in your video), after passing a vehicle I start moving back into their lane ONLY after I can see both their headlights in my side mirror. Seeing both headlights is evidence that they are usually far enough behind me that I won't be cutting them off when I move back into their lane. 3). Always do the shoulder check when changing lanes and merging. Side mirrors will not show you someone if they are in your blindspot. And please indicate long enough before changing lanes (say, 3 seconds). 3a). If you are in someone's blindspot, try to move away from it by either passing them or slowing down enough to move into their side mirror. Else, pay extra attention to them as they might decide to change lanes into your lane and cut you off.
@@maheshs4056 All great points! Thanks for a very detailed response, I agree with all of your thoughts. It’s awesome that this video is finding like-minded people!
Thank you this helps a lot !
I am glad to hear that it helped, thanks for watching!
Hey man, the 2013 jetta owner here. I got the same radio plus a wireless carplay adapter so I just keep my phone in my pockets. You can also get usb and usb-c ports near your shift knob, also plug and play. And finally my most recent acquisition is the automatic euroswitch. Man my jetta is like a modern car inside with an old exterior. Also I recently found out theres fully digital cluster. But its pricey. About 500 bucks
Thanks for the insights! I will look into these upgrades!
Does this radio work with the steering wheel buttons so I can still use volume/track/phone?
@ as far as I know, it does!
Yessir, I put RCD 330 with wireless CarPlay (moded so the USB comes out in the accessories area) + back up camera in my Mk 5 Jetta Wolfsburg and I like it a lot.
Awesome, I have aftermarket reverse parking sensors, so the backup camera is not a must for me. Is it hard to mod the USB to come out from the accessory area though, it will be awesome to hide the cable!
CarPlay is a game changer 🤩
@@amulangakhechieva2450 So true!
a 2.5? yeah. They are the best for a first car.
is this facts chat edit: nvm u got the 2012 2.5l its def fax chat, this indeed might be the goat jetta

Nice. Is it a turbo model?
It’s a 2.5L 5-cylinder engine, it’s naturally aspirated, I believe!
Cool video! And if you want more views and real viewers, check out for services
Volkswagens 2.5 motor is pretty much bulletproof. While VW has had some not so great vehicles they are not a bad car company in terms of reliability like many people claim. A lot of it comes down to the owners. As long as you keep up on maintenance, a VW like this can be a fantastic car and should give you no issues.
@@pitwhip I definitely with you on this, the 2.5 engine is a hidden gem among VW older products. These 5-cylinder motors have proven to be very reliable long term, and it is typical to see these engines go beyond 200k miles with proper maintenance. And I agree that it all depends on an owner, german cars need proper maintenance for them to be dependable, and a lot of owners neglect it. Therefore, we see this bad rep around them.
I will give you a fair warning. Do not do one single modification to that car. If you do, you will never ever be able to stop. You have been warned....
Bigg mistake belive me😂😂
@iansellan haha, we’ll see! But seriously, you should look up the 2.5l engine in these. Those are just as reliable as Toyota’s and Honda’s.
@savvywheels Yees ok the engine is good but everything else is a problem like Scotty says😂
Only the 2.5 avoid any other model from Volkswagen
@@AlanRamos-w3j I agree! The other engines are less reliable. I would only recommend going for 2.5 5-cylinder one.
I was always taught that the right most lane was for slower moving vehicles or vehicles preparing to exit. It's also the merging lane so if everyone just cruised in that lane it would be difficult for oncoming traffic. The middle lanes are cruising lanes and the farthest left lane is the passing lane.
I definitely can understand your point of view. But one of the biggest misconceptions is that the right lane is for “slower” vehicles. This is simply not true, you can go 70mph in the 70mph speed limit zone, and you should stay in the right lane if there is no one to pass. There is no point to cruise in the 2nd or 3rd lane regardless if you’re going “slower” or “faster”.
if 2 lanes yes right for cruise left for passing. if 3 or more right becomes the exit/entry lane especially intracity where exits and on ramps are rather frequent this reduces congestion and gives people room to enter/exit more safely
I agree, but when the highway becomes less congested, people are still cruising in the 2nd lane, I see other cars constantly passing the cars crushing there from left and right. This behaviour is defeating the whole purpose of the highway to pass only from the left.
If you're slow, get right, that way people don't have to pass on the right. SAFETY !!!!
Right lane is the granny lane, Use t if you aren't in a hurry or heavy. The middle is the travel lane for going the speed limit if there is traffic in the granny lane. The left lane is the hammer lane. 'nuff said.
I just picked up a 12 Jetta SE 5 speed and agree with a lot of your points. It is a simple design that doesn’t really stand out which usually translate to timeless. The 2.5 is known to be very reliable and I also said the same about interior, for a compact car it has plenty of space I’d even go out on a limb and say it has as much room as most mid size cars/trucks if not a little less.
Congrats on your 12 Jetta SE 5 speed! It's a great buy, and having a manual is definitely a plus. I agree so much with you about the interior space, it doesn't look like it has a lot of space from the outside, but when you actually step into the car, it's so spacious. Thanks for your comment!
Where do you find the steering wheel accessories
You can find the Amazon links in the video description! But you can also search for them on AliExpress if you want, although it might take longer to ship.
I dont even look .
It’s safer to go slightly faster than the cars you’re merging with.
eyyyy port mann bridge!
Congratulations on your awesome 🤩 new car . I just recently purchased a new 2024 SEL Jetta myself and am so loving my new car .
Congratulations on your new Jetta! It’s a great daily driver, I hope you will enjoy it. 😉
@ thank you very much 😃👍🏻
FYI in (atleast, don't think it's the same across the EU) Belgium this isn't considered merging. The highway has the right of way and the vehicles on the on ramp have to yield to them. Braking on the highway to let someone through is technically not allowed and only enforced when you cause an accident. When a lane stops existing (most often digital signs above the road) then you have to merge and have the right of way. If you are driving in the middle you need to allow one from the right, one from the left and then yourself.
Thanks for sharing!
You didn’t check over your shoulder. There is a blind spot there
Yeah, that's because I have a blind spot mirror! But definitely a must-do if you don't have one, agreed!
Lane 1 is for people exiting. Lane 2 is thru traffic.
Yeah, that's how we(people in the US/Canada) think, but engineers designed Lane 1 to be a cruising lane. This is why Germany has a much lower car accident mortality rate.
Lol
Having driven a ton in America, NOONE let's you merge and will speed up intentionally to not let you merge. Not sure if it's a weird ego thing but ffs it was every time I tried to merge or out my blinker on to change lanes someone would speed up to not let me in. Very different to the standard of driving in the UK.
There is definitely good number of good drivers in NA who are letting you merge without a problem, but I agree that this big ego mentality of not letting people to merge is stupid and dangerous. After all, you can just change lanes to the left to let people in and maintaining your speed.
Because you’re the one who’s supposed to predict an opening and not try to rush in front of a car, it’s safer that way. Vehicles that are already on the highway don’t have to slow down for you it’s more dangerous if they do.
boy we were caravaning in Germany, some people just didn't know how to merge. We had to brake for some people
merging has always felt like go as fast as whatever your riding will let you then merge
Agreed! But this is how it is done in ideal circumstances.
@savvywheels lol I ride a Kawi h2, so merge lanes are kinda like my warp drive lane... I sometimes even talk to myself like "oil temps clear, deep tuck check, boost optimal, ready for takeoff" and then rip into the next dimension.
🤣🤣🤣
Need to get your gearbox tuned, very inefficient driving
What are you talking about he is at 2000rpm the entire time, that's what you would expect on 6th gear at 80mph
Yeah, not sure what's the gearbox problem we are talking about...
Some people in Taiwan wants to see how slow they can go when joining the highway😢.
lol, we need to share this video with them!
This is what most people should do, but they are all idiots and try to get in before the rest. I have already seen idiots who try to force their way in and accelerate too much in order to be the first.
I personally think a c5 corvette will be the best bang for your buck at 15k. Such a beautiful car and an eye catcher for sure. Not to mention it’s loud and fast. I’ve even seen some c6 corvettes in the 16k-18k range
Absolutely agree 💯💯💯
This was actually Part 2 of this series, haha! It will be out tomorrow!
And C5 Corvette is also a part of the full video you can watch on my channel 💯
❤
hey thats surrey!
brother, just merge in at 100mph lol

Thanks, that means a lot!
Exactly the video I was looking for to help me choose what I want
I am glad you found this useful! I am also wondering all the time about which cars are great buys at certain budgets, and the end goal was to help someone else widen their options and throw some ideas.
The reality of my situation is that I have a family of 4 and i believe alot more men in their 30's who like cars would choose ones that can fit their little families, you know cuz family have fun together. We own a wagon and also a coupe that fit everyone comfortably, so my question is what fun to drive cars can hold a family? Seems like interesting content for us young mature car guys
This is definitely one of the future videos I will make! Thanks for your feedback. I agree with the notion of “sharing things you love the most with people you love the most”.
