BMW MINI F56 CUSTOMER TESTIMONIAL FOR BMW/MMINI SECURE VEHICLE AGAINST ROLLING FAULT
It’s been 3 weeks when yoh gonna show the bike 😂😂
Thanks darling daughter. Wasn't well, then went on holiday and been flat out. Been trying to secure riding gear and insurance. Trying to negotiate a venue for the big reveal and of course the British weather is SHOCKINGLY WET and not favourable to motorcycling at the moment. We can't even play cricket and for England this is a national disaster!
my upper chain goes slack then tight, any idea what could be the possible reasons why? upper chain guides appear to be intact and complete still and the upper tensioner is still in situ, thanks
I like your videos on the G310R, I have a 2019 model and find it a nice little runaround. Easy to maneuver out of my garage side door, and very capable for riding in modern day traffic. Interesting to watch you tackle all the different areas of the bike, hopefully I will never have to because everything seems so entangled together. I also have a 43 year old BMW R100RS, so much easier to work on, but such a pain to get out of my garage. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
🏍No fuss, capable and not bad looking are all reasons I chose the G310R. Entangled - a bit but pretty logical I find and easy enough to work with as long as you're not in a rush. I've genuinely enjoyed this project and can't wait to show you guys the final product. Looks better than I'd hoped and you'll see in a few weeks. I am looking forward to enjoying the ride and taking you guys with me -- we'll see about that, no promises just yet. But always on the lookout for the next project and I'm rather jealous of your R100RS. If I can find a G310GS at the right price, so it gives me £££ to put my mark on it then I'll be going for one of those. But I also fancy an older BMW and doing something radical with it -- not sure, but like all good things I'm sure the idea will crystallise over the coming months. Thanks again for your comments and for watching 2 mugs. We really are grateful. Ian 🍺🍺
@@2MugsWorkshop Modding old BMW'S seems to be bit of a thing nowadays, good luck with your choice. 🙂
Great to see this little Beemer coming back to life and usefulness again. Nice to see how the G bikes are put together, taken apart and can be fixed without paying the BMW premium at the dealers. 👍👍👍
I've really enjoyed the project. Yesterday I finished the project -- sorry all, you have to wait a few weeks to see it yet... But I promise you're all in for a huge surprise. Once we've done the reveal, also got a few minor accessories and modification that you can all do at home. Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment. Ian (Mug)
I have a solution if u haven't figured it out
We fix these all the time. I think the video was uploaded a long time before "Two Mugs In A Workshop" became a reality. I used it to show a customer what the issue looks like. Simple software update. Thanks for watching though and if you like the software stuff, we showed a little footage from the BMW G310R motorcycle project when we updated the software and set the mileage correctly on the new instrument cluster.
How?
Looking at the mods and the bodges and the bar brace unfortunately you have bought this bike from someone who probably spent most of his time trying to wheelie it. I think it would have been better with hindsight to buy from a main dealer. But we are learning as we go and certainly your videos are great for some of us who might one day be doing our own maintenance.
Thanks for watching and following us - truly flattered. Here in the UK, these bikes don't have a wide market - unlike other parts of the world. I walked away from a G310R at main dealer with almost delivery mileage for £3000. Brand new, they are £5000. The resale values aren't super strong and there are always plenty for sale -- so that was one reason I took the risk and bought off eBay. Plus as you correctly say, it wouldn't have made much of a project for TH-cam. So £1300 was an absolute bargain given that on the whole the bike is in good shape, and the electrical side is my real area of expertise. But there is still plenty to come and a driving factor in the initial purchase decision is I'm not a fan of the colour schemes so wanted a black frame and black wheels to create something individual. I'm pretty sure the bike was stolen but it isn't on the register, and as a result I don't believe it fell into "the wrong hands" for long enough to do any damage other than cosmetics really. I've had a blast working on it - totally different from the 4 wheel stuff we do and it has left me craving to take on another BMW - perhaps the G310GS next! Addictive stuff.
Great job, thanks for sharing
And thank you for your continued support
I used to do these out of the car but for the last several years I just pull the gearbox off do them in-situ. N47 is easy compared to a 4 wheel drive B48 trust me. Nice video guys - subscribed👍
Really appreciate the kind words. The N47 is both a blessing and a curse ... we're only a small shop but do plenty of them. With many of these we pull the engine because customers are realising that it is a good chance to rebuild the turbo, intake manifold and we're seeing more of the high mileage cars with bottom end damage. So having the engine out kind of works for us - can free up the ramps whilst we're waiting for parts or for suppliers to rebuild turbos etc. We've actually got one at the moment that that the customer did not want to repair because it suffered oil starvation and needs a. new crank, etc. So Marc agreed a price with him and will be rebuilding it. We will try to show some of that once the parts arrive!
Great videos, thanks for sharing. I look forward to seeing more. thanks.
Flattered and grateful that you've taken the time to watch us and subscribe! Plenty of footage already "canned" and more being recorded every day. Thank you, Ian
Marc has the skills! 👍🏻💪🏻
Sure does and incredibly we've had THREE failed N47 engines booked in for this coming week. Won't be going through the process again, but hope to give you all a brief summary on what we find on each of them via TH-cam Shorts over the next week or two or THREE!
Someone suggested an N47 engine transplant into my vehicle. After seeing the effoft to change the chain i don't think I'll bother! Wonder why they didn't put it at the front. Is this the engine type that's had a few issues in police cars destroying itself?
Put it this way, I'd only buy a car with an N47 if it was extremely cheap and I got it straight in the workshop and replaced the chains etc. It can be done in a day, as long as all the parts are lined up and ready to go and you don't find any additional issues along the way. The design is a bit mind-boggling but the good news is that once replaced, you should get many miles of motoring from the unit. It is going to be interesting to see if the later B47 engines suffer the same fate .. they don't look much different and we suspect they will. Police cars - think they all used the 6-cylinder engines and I believe was more to do with EGR cooler. But let's not forget that those cars probably aren't run as standard (tuned?) .. generally the 6-cylinder engines are more hardy than the 4-cylinders ... but they are not immune from chain issues ... they are just taking longer to get there!
What an incredible content. Very thorough! Keep the project going!
Thanks so much! We are going through another period of "snags" at the moment . All part of the fun though. New content tonight (BMW car timing chain) but hoping to release another episode in the G310R playlist this coming weekend! Stay safe!
Used this as a guide to remove and refit the rear wheel of my 310 gs today. Thanks for the video
That’s so cool! Plenty more coming. Hands cut to shreds after the clutch cable change today. Pray you don’t have to mess with that one 😂
That bike is TVS trash
I discuss this in Episode 3 (“REWIND!”). The TVS partnership is 10 years old now and has been renewed. Development of some of the electric bikes is being done out in India too. Better quality than a lot of the cheap bikes that have flooded the market here in UK, but the BMW price tag? But for £1300 absolute bargain and I’ll be putting it through its paces this summer around some interesting roads here in UK!
Wish I had guys like you in my area since I own 2 BMWs (1 2002 325xi and a 2017 BMW R ninet) and a 2009 r56.
And we wish we had you as a customer! Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
Maybe the two bolts in the box where to replace the two shouldered bottom ones? Good value at 6 quid though!! Re the radiator pressure test, could you drill a hole and fit an airline thingy to the old cap and make your own adapter? Coming along nicely.... and it looks better without the reflector!
Agree that it looks better without reflectors but I like to be seen, so I will put something there ... IF I CAN STOP THEM DROPPING OFF 🤣 The adaptor can be bought for around £40 and if you looked at eBay for a while, no doubt a second hand one would come up. I have a complete list of all the cars that adaptor fits -- I photographed the leaflets in the pressure test kit, so will upload those once I work out how. The bolt - cheap and nasty and it had a nut on the end too. A more elegant solution would be to find some M5 x 14mm screws without the neck on them. But like I said, the original bolts are absolutely fine and once all the panels are back on, will hardly be visible. Thanks for the comments ... hopefully the next episode on Thursday!
Lucky, caught just in time hopefully. Will it need out to find the bits from the guide rail?
Needs out because the timing chains are at the back of the engine - up against the bulkhead. But you’ll see the fragments alright! Sorry been a mad busy couple of weeks and I’ve filmed lots of material for the bike, so finding time to edit was proving difficult. Hoping to get this episode done in the coming days.
as regards to the footrest holder colour I have a 2021 model and the footrest holders are black and they look the same so that might be the answer if you can get hold of a set hope this helps
Been recording a lot of material and in the next week or two you’ll see an episode where I remove both the footpeg plates. I did ask dealer and they said either silver or a graphite grey kind of colour. Anyhow, the footpeg plates are £60 each at trade price so not something you want to be buying unless absolutely necessary! Thanks for watching, Ian
Hi, thanks for the cool video!👍 Where can I find the BMW Online Servicemanual which you have on your PC?
Hey thanks for becoming the 100th SUBSCRIBER to the channel!!! Drop me an email ian@bluemeetswhite.com and I'll see if I can help you out.
Considering how gone that chain and sprocket are, I’m amazed the rest of the engine has survived, did the customer driver there?
The customer drove the car to the workshop. We are as surprised as you. If you could have heard the rattle when Marc started the engine you’d wonder how!
Amazing job, well done on the purchase and sorting all the programming issues.
Being a software guy this was probably the easiest part of the project -- I know many would disagree. Not finished with the coding yet - there may be more coming in future episodes, so keep watching. Thanks for following and things should hot up this week as parts arrive! Ian
@@2MugsWorkshop what a great business opportunity you have created. If I had a software issue on a bike that's out of warranty I'd forget BMW and come strait to you. Friendly, informative good communication is what customers want.
Which car/engine is it? Is this common at that mileage? It sounds like a large job from your previous comment.
It is the N47 4-pot 2 litre diesel engine. Engine out job. Marc can nail these in a day if all the parts are lined up and no complications arise but he often spots other issues on the way through the job.. Turbos, EGR issues, crank pulley, intake manifold coking are some of the more common ones.
Keep-up the good work. That snagging list is certainly creating future content!
Yes and lots of parts should start arriving tomorrow, so this week will busy on the project. A few parts are on "backorder" from Germany which is irritating as it will delay the "big reveal". Keep on watching as I've gone a bit mad and taken a big gamble that I hope will pay off! Can't say any more!
@@2MugsWorkshop - Sounds both intriguing and exciting. I will look forward to seeing the results 👌
The missus doesn't think so ... she's having a nervous breakdown watching these videos and the parts arriving 🤣@@ianjobernsdrivinginstructor
Is that an engine out job to change the guides and chain on that model?
Correct! We only use genuine BMW parts for the repair and the vehicle will get a full service as part of the deal. It can be done in a day, but being a small workshop with 2 mugs, we take our time on these and make sure everything is spot on before releasing the car back to the customer. On this particular vehicle we "think somebody has been there before" so might be a few nasties as we go and wouldn't be surprised at 145,000 miles if it needs attention in other areas. But for the customer's sake, let's hope not! Thanks for your support. Ian
Mate. Love it. Mostly here for your g310 content at the moment but have r53 minis and previously had BMWs. Microphones would be great but keep going without as it is. Love the humour and no BS content. You Poms have a similar sense of humour to us Aussies (until it comes to cricket or rugby)
Cheers Andrew - wish we had your weather too. Regardless, appreciate the comments and bit late as I ran out and bought a microphone. Will be keeping the trusted iPhone 2020 SE which is nearly as decrepid as myself and Marc(k). Next episode is uploading right now so should go live over the weekend and lots of parts on order, so next week we should have more than one episode. Stay tuned and g'day sport!
Useful video for beginners. The procedure for the rear wheel/cush drive is applicable to the majority of chain drive motorbikes. Nice to see grease being used that doesn't affect rubber, I personally use red rubber grease for that, save the nice silicon stuff for brake sliders! The project is coming along nicely, and I look forward to seeing what BMW are going to do👍
Thanks for sharing these tips Mark. I'm looking forward to the BMW trip too but still a few things to do before then and of course, BMW have a lead time to get in the workshop! But keep watching as more stuff happening to the bike this week and got a few BMW car related problems to share also I think this week.
Great job, but by not replacing the front sprocket and chain, the rear sprocket might wear out at a high rate. Always better to change the complete set.
@jimmyvlb Yep, always best to replace as a set generally if you can.
New to all of this so keep the comments coming - I'm flattered that people are taking the time to get involved. Thank you. My line of thought on the sprockets ... they're made of cheese ! The chain was replaced by the seller as the bike had been standing a while. I thought about the front sprocket but if (the big if that is ....) I decide to keep the bike I will be changing both sprockets and the chain for something far better quality than the BMW parts. Dealer assures me these eat chains and sprockets but I guess at such cheap prices - if you can be bothered to constantly replace them - then it isn't a bad deal. I'd just rather have something that lasts a little longer personally. Be interested to hear any other thoughts you have as we go along. Thanks again and welcome!
Odd they eat chains as a relatively low power bike. Not sure who BMW use but with my chain drive bike I tend to go for JT sprockets and DID chains, sometimes EK. DID make camchains as well so a good brand. Sometimes you can get heavy duty chains and sprockets for some bikes which is good quality, sometimes a wider chain. Places like M&P in Wales, Wemoto in Sussex etc sell these things. Chain/sprockets are kind of treated like brake discs/shocks in cars and best replaced at the same time. Then you have o ring chains and x ring chains. Google it, more info than I could give!
Really clear close-ups 👍
Thanks 👍
Great videos and keep them coming! Aim for consistent sound levels - a sudden piece of music makes me jump! Microphones might reduce some of the background noise.
Thanks for the tips! UPDATE: We have a wiresless DJI Mic 2 setup now, so better sound from here on in!
Being in the trade I guess you can get parts cheap. A good source for BMW bike parts and secondhand parts is Motorworks in Holmfirth, Yorkshire should you do any more. Be interesting to see how the bike runs in more regular use. A definite bargain or appears so far!! From another Mark... with a K, the proper way.
We do get discount on BMW but not as much as you may think (anywhere from zero to 12%) but new parts aren't hugely expensive on the G310R .... well, I was a bit shocked by one price but that may ruin a future episode. Thanks for your support and keep watching! Ian
Interesting to see what you've done and the way you worked through it. It seems like a job you couldn't have done without the BMW software. Didn't know you could update bikes software with the car software!
Thank you! Agreed and I specialise in electrical and software on the cars. Motorcycles have less control units and this particular model they are pretty basic. We may get inside those a little more once the bike is "finished" (are they ever finished?) and certain aspects - like writing the mileage from the engine ECU (DME) to the instrument cluster (KOMBI) was significantly different and kind of stumbled on the answer with the help of one or two trade contracts.
Seems like a tool thats not necessary
Hey thanks for watching!
