Make a fly tying profile plate for less than £5
A fly tying profile plate
Whatever fly patterns you tie a fly tying profile plate is a blessing, especially if, like me, the reading glasses have to come out to play more often than they use to!
For years the fly tying profile plate has been pretty essential to me. Not only do they help to put a good contrast between the fly and the background they also make tying so much easier. Being a musician and having a recording studio I simply couldn’t understand how expensive they were when I could buy a pop shield for a microphone at a fraction of the price and they are so similar… So this is how I made one from a pop shield...

The Killer Bug Kebari designed by tenkarastuff.com has proved itself to us this year on many occasions. Fishing it dead drift or putting a little life to it, it hasn’t let us down. Designed to dive well in a pool it mimics a pupae as it sets off to the surfaces and dives back to the river bed where it feels it is safe. It’s this motion that induces a take and has worked brilliantly with this Sa...

The Killer Kebari

The Killer Kabari is a fly that if I was only going to take one fly with me this would be it. And it has been in the past. It really is a brilliant pattern. I think it was the one of the first flies I tied back in the late 70's early 80's. I've been asked how I tie it so many times so I thought I'd have ago at a video. Considering this is my first attempt at filming one (properly) I tried to fi...
