Lexus Ct200h steering rattle noise fix
2013 Lexus ct200h rattle while driving and steering, gradually got worse. Tried tightening bolts and considered even replacing the intermediary shaft. Solved issue with a $12 damper for the electronic power steering motor shaft. Part number 45254-28040. Will work on Lexus ES350 RX350 RX450H UX250J as well as Toyota Avalaon, Camry and Prius, 2011-2018

Hi friend, I don't have the same one.a big knock, especially when I drive through small holes and uneven roads, I hear tapping, today I was at the toyota dealer, they said they did not know what the problem was, I have a 2017 Toyota Avensis, I understood this is a problem for all Toyota, thanks for the video..I will try to repair it myself, I do not understand why the dealer does not know how to repair it..
У нас в Америке такая же проблема, не понимаю почему механики на автостоянках не могут эту работу сделать. Сразу рекомендуют менять всю рулевую колонну. Надеюсь это сработает на вашей машине.
@denmyr4 Hi, when you disassembled at home, did you turn off the general accumulator?? and the wires from the electric amplifier?
@@женяженя-ь5э9ф no I did not. I didn’t think that was necessary. I didn’t remember, but I believe there is a plug connected to the electric steering motor, you can unplug that if need be. Otherwise I don’t really do anything with the electrical.
@denmyr4 You're going to laugh, I've been to three different garages and they speak differently.....I take it you have a knock on when the car is started,? if you turn off the knock, is there no knock?
I also faced the issue, the plastic wasn't broken, but changed it anyway, and it resolved annoying noise. Thanks!
I bought a steering column for $200, not installed yet. So I didn’t need it lol. Good to know.
Problem solved. Thank you!
Hello, what year is your CT400H? Lexus says this P/N isn’t good for 2013. Thank you for your time!
See comments below. The part number is not from Lexus. It’s Toyota so Lexus will say it won’t fit but it does. Just order it online. My vehicle is 2013
Just did mine thanks
The only video that actually helped me thanks man 😅 everybody removed the carbs but this simplified it 🎉
You are a hero. I'm in Australia and have registered a complaint with VCAT about a dealership that charged me A$1500 for intermediate steering column plus labour. Could have been fixed with the A$20 part in your video. They severely gouged me. Thanks for your efforts 👌
Thanks man that fixed my ct rattle it was driving me crazy!
#DenMyr " Have a 2011 Lexus RX 350 has the same issue! and is driving me Nuts! recently had the intermediate shaft replaced thinking that was the problem (however glad I did for it needed to also be replaced) but the Noice persists! please what is the technical part called so can order it! And on my vehicle removing the steering wheel? as opposed to just dropping it? is not really necessary, is it? just as to get access to the Motor itself and replace this part. please HELP! Am at my Wit's end.
Can u show the 6 peed trans
I bought the part from lexus using the part # 45254-28040. They told me it did not fit my car. But it does fit the ct200h and it does fix the issue. Thank you for making this video! 🎉😊
so good to see finally! do you think this part will fit my 2011 ct200h? as i see all the listing stating its 2013-2021
It should be exactly the same.
A damn $8 nylon bushing
Hey brotha i had a question i went to the dealer and gave them this part number but they said its not compatible with the lexus ct i have the same year a 2013 and just wanted to make sure this is the right part number
Don’t bother with the dealer. ASIN sells these which is what the dealer uses. Just buy it on amazon but the ASIN brand which is Japanese quality 45254-28040 Damper Electronic Power Steering Motor Shaft & Gear for Lexus ES350 RX350 RX450H UX250J for 13-18 Avalaon a.co/d/9txlyYh
Thank you for your video! I'll do my right now, the part costs 10 dollars and the job will be hard as you know. Thank you again!
The process is explained but not shown in the video. I didn’t record it. Remove the bottom plastic cover below the knee air bag, loosen the bolts for the knee air bag, unclip the top leather piece above the steering wheel, and then there is a total of 3 bolts to drop the steering rack down and then you will have access to the electric motor which is held by 2 bolts, remove those and the motor will separate from the shaft and you will have access to this part. Be careful with all the wires, I didn’t unclip or unplug any wiring and was able to get to it, just clip off some of the zip ties. I explain it in the video.
Brother It will be great if you make a vedio how to open and replace the whole process
Great video!! Could you please tell where is the 3rd bolt, the transverse one? I have a Lexus 350 Rx. thanks
Thanks for the great video. My question is whether it is possible to pull out the entire steering column for replacement by unscrewing only these three screws (without removing the dashboard ) if so I ask you very much to describe the various steps. Which screw is the most difficult to access and which wrench from which position is best to use in such a situation. Greetings and all the best
Hi! My 2012 CT has the same issue. How did you take it apart? What are the steps?
How long did it take for that smoke to clear out. Did you run into problems in the long run
Smoke cleared out in about 20 minutes of running it and all the oil in the piston chambers burned out. It passed smog with flying colors and still is on the road today with no issues. I’m sure once it reached closer to 200k miles the cats will show their true colors but for now it’s good.
I’ll never get that 5mins back. I get it, your bike cheap and looks good. I don’t care. I want to see the actual replacement.
are thise scs 16inch rim?
www.4wheelparts.com/p/black-rhino-realm-black-wheels/prod4920006?Wheel+Diameter_PQMS=16+Inches
The way my suspension is currently set up is probably 1.5” over stock. About to get wheel spacers. Do you absolutely have to do the body lift to keep from rubbing the 35s?
I would not suggest 35s with wheel spacers. Best to get a rim that has the proper offset. Without a body lift you may not be able to clear the quarter panels and the fenders under full articulation. Also ensure to hammer in the pinch welds really well. You will have an issue with the window washer fluid tank when turning as well. The body lift fixed all those issues for me.
Did you make a video of you actually changing the intake manifolds or is this it..? This isn't very helpful
Would the exhaust gasket need to be replaced ? My exhaust sounds like it’s going to blow up pushing full throttle and sounds like it’s sputtering backfiring after I let the throttle off. Running lean, popping during deacceleration. Front header pipes turning blue. It won’t accelerate past 60mph and bogs down, I’m guessing it maybe an exhaust gasket leak in the front?
Did you ever figure out issue?

Looks amazing
Do you still have your 96 4Runner? And if you do how many miles on it now?
I sold it. It had around 230k
How long those new cheap intakes last
Not as long as the originals but I’m sure they’ll do the job for a few more years to come.
Did you replace the boots with the tank on?? Mine looks pretty tight
It’s a bit tight but I was able to do it without removing the tank.
You guys drove right past the best hot spring on the river...
actually we camped there for a couple days. Got to enjoy the springs in full glory!!
@@denmyr4 sweet! But you drive right past the hidden one that me and a couple others know about
@@jimamerson8077 spill the beans bro.
@@denmyr4 it’s right below the rock outcrop right where you cross the river. I found it on a cold day when the steam was rising
Den what month did you guys went there?
We went in February. Perfect time in my opinion.
It’s a classic not a custom
TobyMac huh, great soundtrack brother!!
So...where are the hot springs?
Was that trooper a 4wd cus that drove like a 2wd
Trooper is 4x4 with limited slip diff G80.
I'm guessing that you don't have your stock air box because it's had a pod kit installed. If you pull the gas tank you should see an air filter on each carb as well as a smaller on the breather tube.
Do you have a video on this?
I know that steep hill you climbed, I've done it in my RZR.. its steep AF. Handled if no problem but it still felt sketchy.. and I did it in summer on dry ground. Nice job
Awesome rig! What wheels and roof rack do you run?
How’s your performance off road any rubbing? This is a great looking rig. I want to do a similar set up. If I got billy 5100’s all around with OME 881’s in front and OME 890’s in rear and the 2” body lift do you think I’d be good running the bfg ko2 285’s? Also did you have to replace UCA’s or get diff drop? Thanks!
That should be plenty for clearance. Depends on your wheel offset too though. I had a little rubbing in the front but it’s easily fixed. Hammer in the weld lip to the body and you’re good.
I've backpacked here before but am considering taking my 4runner. It's a 3017 trd pro, essentially lifted 2 inches. Think the trail coming in from the nevada side (leviathan mine rd) would be doable in let's say a week or so?
Andrew Phillips I’ve never done it from that side but I if there is still snow I would definitely do it with another vehicle. Unless you’re prepped with a winch and all proper gear to get yourself unstuck. Also fresh powder is your enemy on those trails especially with smaller lift like yours. Would not do it if it’s snowing.
Would totally be doable. I've driven it in a 3rd gen from the side you're talking about. I'm on 3" of lift w/ 33" KO2s. Don't worry about it. If you've got a Pro then you've got lockers and crawl. You'll be fine. I never once needed a locker from the side you're talking about. Obviously all the normal stuff, don't wheel alone if you don't have to, have comms, blah blah blah but you'll be fine. I'm blown away this dude is saying try it another vehicle when you're in a TRD Pro and only one inch of lift less than him. You're in a way more capable rig than a 3rd gen with some body lift. I've got a 2019 TRD and I trust it way more than my 3rd gen. Go nuts dude. It's a cool trail. You'll dig it. Just make sure you check the river flow to see if you'll be able to cross. Else you'll get stopped by the river about 30 yards from the springs.
mattmcge thanks for commenting. “Another vehicle” meaning make sure you do it with a friend. Don’t go alone. 👍🏻
@@denmyr4 Well now I just feel like an asshole haha
Did that F150 make it all the way?? it looks completely stock
Yes he made it... Slowly and carefully.... the snow helped a lot, the Ford had a locker, besides clearance in some areas he did well.
Did you replace the oem muffler with another? I can see a bit of one there? Sounds good!
Newname95 it’s just a muffler delete nothing else. Looks like from the angle but it’s just the angle of the pipe.
Got it thanks, do u recommend it?
Newname95 do I recommend the muffler delete? Sure . Do I recommend the car? Questionable it was fun while it lasted. Manual 6sp v8 always fun but at what cost 😓
