When the Smoke Clears: Episode 4
In this fourth and final episode of "When the Smoke Clears," a series on first responder mental health, we delve into a crucial subject: identifying the signs of mental stress among firefighters and knowing when to intervene to provide support.
Throughout this series, we've explored the growing awareness and acceptance of mental health conversations within the fire service in Indiana and nationwide. In this episode, our expert panel discusses the warning signs that may indicate a fellow firefighter is struggling with more than just the everyday stresses of the job.
Join IDHS Executive Director Joel Thacker, Indiana State Fire Marshal Steve Jones, Tony Murray of the Professional Fire Fighters Union of Indiana, firefighter Troy Clements from Pike Township, and mental health expert Dr. Bob Smith as they share their experiences and advice on how to identify when someone needs help-and what to do about it.

Chaplaincy is a key part of the FD that is missing in so many departments...especially having a Chaplain that has experience serving in the fire service. Thankful that IFD has a full-time Chaplain.

As a therapist (LCSW), STAR Behavioral Health provider for service members and vets, and person with Fire I&II, etc, this is much welcomed. Would love to see partnerships for confidential therapy at community mental health centers (which can be done virtually). EAP is often very short, it's a start and a good pipeline to deeper care.

Thank you for sharing! My opinion on why guys don't talk is the Chief sends them for psychological evaluation and test. If they fail then they are put off work for a undetermined amount of time. And of course, when it comes to pyrotechnics used for effects at haunted houses, especially close proximity ones (for instance, you want to make Frankenstein come alive with pyro gerbs, etc.), there are permit requirements and additional restrictions that these owners of these houses have to follow. For example.... 1. No passive pyro effects that are placed too close to injure patrons are allowed (for example, streamers fired from big confetti cannons that go bang too close to guests - a big no no). 2. No nitrocellulose pyro effects will be used anywhere flammables (clothing, materials, gases, solides, liquids) are nearby or in the vicinity in any interior of the house, even if it is away from guests. 3. No actor will be allowed to use sparklers too close to patrons or guests as effects, because sparklers can reach temperatures as high as 1000 degrees F.

Here is how Dick Connor's the general manager of Oaks Amusement park in Portland Oregon sabotages the Monster Mouse ride at the direction of the Multnomah county sheriff's! Multnomah county sheriff sting operations targeted Oaks Amusement park and murdered off the owner of Oaks Park and took covert control of the park by recruiting it's managers into the sting, Dick Connor's was a manager at the park and was recruited into the sting! Multnomah county sheriff's wanted their excuse to permanently shut down the park so they could use the water front property the park sits on for other purposes, and a huge disaster would give local GOV their excuse to permanently close down the park! Dick Connor's, a park manager installed on average a dozen civilian sting op's onto the maintenance team and would maintain around four sting op's on the ride team and it was Dick Connor's that instructed those stin g op's on the more simple forms of sabotage they could do to the rides and it was Dick Connor's and his high level minions that would do the more sophisticated forms of sabotage! Dick Connor's and his high level minoins sabotaged the Monster Mouse ride by moving the ride to a new location and he would have a normal maintenance team do it for him and then he would then sabotage the Monster Mouse tracks after the park is closed and no one is around to witness him do it! Dick Connor's sophisticated method of sabotage was all about simulating a balancing error by sabotaging several track sections in a roll, the reason je does this is because he knows it will eventually be caught and when it does he wants it to fool people into thinking it's an accident or error by the people that set up the ride and balanced it thus framing the people that set up the ride for the ( error) so no one would perceive it as sabotage thus he sets up the people that balance the ride as the fall guys! Dick Connor's picks the area to commit his sabotage and then uses the jack that comes with the ride to raise the post section and his minion will then pry out one or two boards at the bottom base of the post and then lower the post back to it's original position and then they leave the opposite post alone and then they go to the next section and do the exact same thing for several sections in a roll! The end result of their intentional sabotage with intent to mass murder children is there will b e hidden gaps between the bottom boards at the bottom base of several posts which will over time cause eventual metal fatigue/cracks and an eventual break in the track which can cause cars on the Monster Mouse ride to careen off the track and to crash into children that are in line to ride the ride! Dick Connor's method of sabotage is very pro it is designed to pass a normal standard inspection as well as a more thorough inspection involving a level! The sting that covertly took illegal control of Oaks Park controlled most all the key positions within the park and any time a safety conscious employees catches the problems caused by sabotage in that park would be covered up by park managers and by sting op filled maintenance teams! This method of sabotage was used repeatedly in the 1980's and the 1990's and many innocent people tried to stand up to these organized murderous sting operation s but all are ganged up on and eliminated by the sting and many such people that stood up to these murderers were poisoned to death! The owner of Oaks Amusement Park was murdered off in the early 1980's but the sting op's that ran the park pretended he was still around when he was not, it's that very pretense the sting used to hide the fact they killed off the owner and stole his park from him with intent of permanently closing down the park!

Portland cops and Multnomah county sheriff sting op's murdered off the owner of Oaks Amusement Park and installed their sting op's into all the key positions within the park primarily management and the maintenance team and they were sabotaging the amusement rides because they wanted a huge disaster with lots of deaths so local GOV could justify permanently close down the park so local GOV could use the waterfront property the park sits on for other purposes! In 1983 the park was filled with a combination of sting op's in all the key positions and were in actual control of the park and with experienced employees that knew shit was going on and became aware sabotage of the rides were occurring and were trying to do the right thing and warn people about sabotage and there were rookies in the park that are new and unaware of what's going on but are witness to the chaos that was occurring! Dick Connor's the ride manager and his sting op filled maintenance team sabotaged all of Kiddyland via electrocution and they staged their planned out huge disaster on July 3rd 1983 on one of the busiest days of the year, their attempt at mass murder of children was thwarted by a rookie safety conscious ride operator that was already put on guard for sabotage! At the end of the season of 1983 the takeover by the sting of that park was complete and they got rid of everybody, they got rid of all the normal managers and supervisors and foreman's and all the experienced employees and they even got rid of Funtastic Shows which was based at Oaks Park until early 1984 and Dick Connor's became the new general manager and the only manager left from the prior season and he installed a new temp maintenance team consisting entirely of sting op's and they sabotaged almost every ride on the midway while the park was closed for the season! When it came time to open the park up for the season of 1984 Dick Connor's hired all new rookie employees and hired no supervisors and no foreman's and he hired only six mid level experienced ride operators and 36 all new rookie ride operators and he only gives those six mid level ride operators only forty minutes to train 36 all new ride operators on as many rides as they can before the park opens up! Rush rush rush is the best way to describe Dick Connor's and his sting op filled maintenance team the first week of 1984! The first five days of the season that sting op filled maintenance team did not perform any inspections of the rides and focused only on setting up the Monster Mouse at a new location in the park at the order of Dick Connor's! On the fifth day of the season the temp maintenance team was done with the Monster Mouse Daick Connor's laid them off, not fired them but laid them off! That night at exactly 11:30 PM the moment the park closed for the day Dick Connor's had security run all the ride operators out of the park the moment a ride operator steps out of the ride room and ride office! The reason why is because Dick Connor's wanted to sabotage the Monster Mouse tracks by unseating the posts from the ground and he did not want anyone witnessing him do this because everyone from the prior season were already on guard for sabotage! Three days later Dick Connor's installed a new normal maintenance team and on that new teams very first day on the job they were being set up by sting op's that were impersonating them with the intent of tricking the new ride team into thinking the new maintenance team is a bunch of drunks that want to mess around with the balancing of the rides! A sting op was dressed up like the new maintenance team and was impersonating the new maintenance team over an hour after the new maintenance team finished their first day and went home for the day! The very next day two sting op's that were embedded on the ride team were deliberately running around and telling all the new normal rookie ride operators "The maintenance team is a bunch of drunks that want to mess around with the balancing!" so the entire rookie ride team is witness to sting op's setting up the new maintenance team to be the fall guys! In 1985 the city government took control of Oaks Park officially and to hide this fact from the public they just turned the park into a non-profit organization but it don't change the fact they still kept Dick Connor's as general manager and he as usual installed another new sting op filled maintenance team for the purpose of sabotage, but from 1985 forward they are no ,longer in a rush they were instead taking their sweet time at sabotage! Dick Connor's sting op filled maintenance team in 1985 seemed more concentrated on beating up any employee that stands up to them and to publicly vilify such employee and to eliminate them! Near the end of the season of 1990 Dick Connor's decides he wants the Monster Mouse sabotaged again but this time he has his maintenance team do it for him after he quits his job, one week after Dick Connor's quit his job in 1990 Joe Norling the CEO of Oak's Park gave the maintenance team the order to move the Monster Mouse to a new location and the maintenance team sabotaged it using the exact same method Dick Connor's used in the early 1980's! and they do this at the end of the season of 1990! At the start of the season of 1991 Joe Norling hired two very odd not typical blatant collage educated wielders under cover as minimum waged ride operators and had them hog the Monster Mouse for over a year to develop the metal fatigue/cracks/breaks in the tracks of that ride! When those sting op ride operators developed the damage and created a break in the track of the Monster Mouse they suddenly quit their job without warning and the next morning the sting op filled maintenance team slagged the break in the track with wielding slag to hide the break in the track! A week later on the busiest public school picnic day of the year that hunk of slag broke off and the track was separating as the cars filled with children went over it! A safety conscious ride operator caught it in the nick of time and shut the ride down, and Joe Norling the park CEO and his sting op filled maintenance team covered it up and even destroyed that hunk of slag because it's proof the maintenance team knew about the break in the track and tried to hide it from inspections! I am barely scratching the service of these crimes there is way more that went on!
