Weight, Build, Dig!
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 20 ก.ย. 2020
Welcome to Weight, Build, Dig! I’m Duane I have a wife and two daughters we live in Alabama.
This channel I will be building our home by myself without a contractor and developing our property.
I’ll be operating heavy equipment I love digging in the dirt. I do brush cutting with my skid steer.
Those are the things I love to do. One thing I’m going to work on is my weight. Which is how I came up with the name of my channel.

I bought this 4 runner back in April of this year. I sold my 2021 Tacoma and then bought this Toyota. I just didn’t like the Tacoma with the six speed transmission. I am way happier with this 4Runner. It has more room than the Tacoma. I really have a lot of fun driving it.

Blessings to your family! (I made sure my daughters could change a flat and check the oil, but we never got this deep - well done).
This might sound like a dumb question, but i was wondering, how do you pay concrete? Do you oay tthe driver? Or you go order in person, and pay at the pplant?
@@elielcreado no. I actually paid the company over the phone.
@@weightbuilddig166 oh ok Thank you for your reply, I now have a better understanding!
@@elielcreado yep. You could also give the driver a check. I done that before too. Some companies only take payment before delivery. Just depends on the company.
I use a paper coffee filter in a funnel when pouring fuel in my mowers and string trimmers. I haven't had starting issues in years.
Hey are those 6x6 posts and 2x10 outside rafters?
@@bdchristmann Yes 6x6 post. It’s 2x12 boards for the beams.
Great videos, I am building mine in there days. I have a question, I am going to have some storage like tou did, is it fine If I do not install the ceiling joist in all roof?
@@alfredoleonardi2698 Thanks! Yes that would be fine. You still need all the collar Ties for all the rafters. What size are you going to build?
@@weightbuilddig166It Is 12x16. There are so many projects online and I am super confused. I found your video and it's great, but I had to ask you if it going to work without ceiling joints. What is the size of the ridge beam? Rafters are 2×6 right?
@@alfredoleonardi2698 my ridge beam was a 2x8x16. Rafters are 2x6x8. @@weightbuilddig166 Quick question, But 7/16 OSB for metal roof is not a little tiny for the screws? Reading online they say at least 3/4.
@@alfredoleonardi2698 Well my screws didn’t have a problem with bite or holding the metal down. So i don’t know about that.
I have a question to ask, wouldn't you want water proof the concrete blocks before installing the drain pipe? Good video! Blessings to you and your family
@@kevinberniebarron7548 Yeah, you’re probably right. I didn’t think about that when I did the job.
What did you use to cover the pipes?
@@ritamaterne3107 I used a weed fabric barrier material
When building something like this, do you need to vent the roof. TIA
I did vent mine I cut the felt at the top of the ridge. Then put metal ridge cap on top of the metal roof. So it can vent there. Then the vinyl on the side walls not the gable has vent in it as well.
@weightbuilddig166 okay, thanks. Great work, the video really helps a newbie like me.
O.S.B. IS GARBAGE; but its cheaper than plywood . Just my opinion. Heat flex water rot hmm.. not on my structures . Pay more now pay less later.. its just my take . Im not a contactor though so..

Damn!!! Remind me not to ever buy a used mower from you!!! Take a quick walk around the yard before mowing, pick up any sticks, rocks, kid's toys etc. Brand new mower subjected to a sudden stoppage, yikes!!!!
Excellent job! I've commented on other videos of the shed, but, this is exactly what I want to build! Thank you for sharing God bless you and your family

Did you use 2x6's to form a solid 5-6inch slab?
Yes I did
Awesome! How has the slab held? Any cracking?
@@elielcreado The concrete has no cracks, it’s very solid. I did have the concrete company add fiberglass to the concrete.

Shoulda used pressure treated wood for the bottom plate that will most likely be rotted out in a couple years
@@Hill-J I did use pressure treated wood for the bottom plate.
@@weightbuilddig166 oh
I’m not talking about the sheathing on the bottom on the outside of shed I’m talking about your 2x4 sill plate/bottom plate where the bottom of your wall comes in contact the concrete that is definitely not pressure treated. Yea I see like a 12 inch strip of pressure treated plywood going around the bottom outside of your shed
@Hill-J lol. I did use pressure treated wood (2x4) for the bottom plate.
Yup…it’s a shed
Green board for plate
@@matthart5999 I used pressure treated lumber for the bottom plate.
Is that the concrete slab part of the cost
@@Twiztedseabolt420yes that includes the slab. Notice the shed isn’t done. So there will be more money that will go into it. The $2800. Is just to this point.
I mean the slab costed something? also your labor also green plate against the slab also hurricane clips on the trusses also too small collar ties also no H clips on the roof sheeting also the garage door is 1000$ also no doors or windows also no soffit vent or gable vent also no trim or siding or paint or roofing or facia or soffit or drip edge so yeah thats an 8000$ shed at least
@@Joedex1625 Yes you’re right. The $2800 is the slab and the materials to this point of the build. There will be more money that goes into this build. I did put pressure treated lumber on the bottom plate. I installed anchor bolts I just didn’t show that part. Thanks for watching
Do you charge yourself for labor? Do you pay that with a check or cash? Do you give yourself a invoice / receipt? Do you include sales tax for this sale?
I know the word costed is technically acceptable, but I don't like it. It sounds stupid. It cost you an E and a D that were completely unnecessary.

@@lacuzon39000 $2800 did not include doors windows siding. It was just the slab and the material to build the shed to the point where it was dried in with house wrap and the felt on the roof. Also did not include the metal for the roof.
That’s a very nice looking home! I also enjoyed your 12x16 shed build!
@@brucebigbie1537 Thank You! I had a lot fun building both of them.
$2800 and you have a concrete slab? Concrete is $160 a yard where I live and that doesn’t include forming lumber and labor (unless you do your own concrete work). That’s way over $2800 and you have not bought a stick of lumber, wrap, siding, roofing, soffit, facia doors, windows etc
