Children's University code: red1209
My guest this week is a space architect, and the CEO & co-founder of AstroSpArch, Eszter Gulacsi . Eszter worked for a time with the @EuropeanSpaceAgency developing space radiation shielding, and has even recently been testing radiation shielding at @NASA . Although it's a career you may not have heard of, space architecture is a vital part of the present and future of space exploration.
In this interview, some key things we discuss include:
- what space architecture is
- the work of her company, AstroSpArch
- whether a space elevator is a real possibility
- how she became interested in STEM
- advice for children and young people
- and more!

well done
This is a coil pump it is not a archimedes screw
Special effects!! Love it!
@annaf9377 I've also got a short video where I did this with tonic water, which glows blue in UV light! Glad you enjoyed it :)
There are gaps between the clear tubing coils on your PVC pipe. If you filled these with additional coils of clear tubing, you could make your screw more efficient, but transferring roughly 3 times as much water for each turn of the plastic pipe. However, the device was not very efficient because the greater potential energy imbued to the water was wasted when it was allowed to fall to the bottom of the second container at a lower level than the surface of the water in the first container. If the second container had been at a greater height off the bench, this greater potential energy coud have been conserved - at least until Mum came home and made you pour it all down the kitchen sink, anyway!

This is interesting to watch and it is my first time and would love to continue checking on this site. My question is: Why did you pick the 7th number?
Once he has added up all of his numbers, the final number is the same as 55A (55 times his first number) + 88B (88 times his second number. The 7th number he gets to is the same as 5A + 8B which, when you multiply by 11, is the same as 55A + 88B; his final number.
جيد،،من فضلك ما المعادله الحسابيه لصنع ارخميدس توربين حقيقي للري الزراعي،،،وشكراً
The volume of flow that passes through Archimedes screws is a function of inlet depth, diameter and rotation speed of the screw. Simplified it is: Do ≈ nQ^3/7 حجم التدفق الذي يمر عبر مسامير أرخميدس هو وظيفة عمق المدخل والقطر وسرعة دوران المسمار. مبسطة هو: Do ≈ nQ^3/7

Can this be used via hollow tube for pyrotechnics?
@@Carnivoreinthecaribbean as long as you can great a gust of air to blow the flour over / through the flame, any type of hollow tube should work, however I'm not sure how safe it is to use that as a method for pyrotechnics
Nice and funny experiments! Thank you !
@@annamagkiosi thank you, I'm glad you liked them!
Any ideas on what sort of natural materials could be used to make a model sized prototype, e.g. bamboo instead of pvc, but what instead of the tube?
@ElenaRast-g1m the honest answer is I don't know what natural material could be used in place of the plastic tubing. I've had a look for ideas online but nothing was really coming up for it. There was one suggestion to use clay, but that may be tricky to mould into the wrapping shape around the bamboo. That's a great question, though, and one I'll need to look further into as I look to improve sustainability.

It depends on the age range of the content you are going for but for me this leaves a big question as to 'why'. Why does hot air and cold air passing each other begin to create that horizontal spin, what's actually happening? Anyways subbed, best of luck with your new channel/content.
@moretalynx172 Thank you. These were initially started for primary school children during the pandemic. That is from one of my earlier videos while I was still finding my way. I try and be a bit more detailed now. However, inspiring further curiosity was also an aim, so people can take their learning further :)
why doesn't cup burn?
Paper burns at a much higher temperature than water boils. The water is drawing the heat energy away from the cup, so the water warns up and the cup doesn't burn 🙂
@@STEMwithMrN ITS CRAZY! keep thinking about this! i have more questions
Didn't keep the cup over the flame for long enough.
It was over the flame for quite a while, but it didn't reach boiling because the wind started blowing the candle out.
@@STEMwithMrN So my prediction was correct?
@titusjames4912 what happens is the water heats up and the cup doesn't go on fire :)
@@STEMwithMrN but eventually the candle will run out of fuel. (Or in this case heat.
Eventually, yes, the candle will run out of fuel, in this case possibly before all the water would boil away. The main point, though, is an empty paper cup over a candle will go on fire, but one with water in it won't.
The candle will go out.
Part 2 is now up in my Shorts, so you can check out what happens!
Love this activity and how you explain the science. Thanks for posting!
You're welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I get surprise by your indept demonstration.😮👏👏
Best to show and explain it in all its glory!
We did this at summer camp one time lol
It's a fun activity to do. My classes often like repeating it.
What do you need to do this
I'm currently playing in an ice hockey tournament. I'll reply when I get home and let you know all the measurements 🙂
Always have an adult present when doing this activity, and wear eye and hand protection, as some of the contents can potentially be harmful. In container 1 (stirred well to mix): 150ml of distilled water ; contents of 1 vitamin c capsule (break it open and tip in the contents) ; 6ml of 12% iodine solution. In container 2 (stirred well to mix): 40ml of boiling water ; 100ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide ; 2 grams of corn starch. Then pour them together in a third container, and watch the iodine clock reaction take place!
wonderful
Thank you!

Vera Rubin, Jocelyn Bell Burnell and Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar are not "white dudes"
@@STEMwithMrN how do you know? Even so that is just 3. 🤣🤣
@Jasona1976 I know, it's only 30% of the video. I managed greater diversity in some of the other sciences. Unfortunately, physics is a male-dominated field and many of those who had the greatest impact - that we are aware of - are white males. It would have been easier for me to just do all white males, but I wanted to get some diversity while still looking at people who made a big impact.
@@STEMwithMrN diversity is a delusion of the radical left. The fact is that white males have dominated every area of science for hundreds of years. And we can thank them for all the benefits of the modern world.
