Greetings, fellow humans! I'm Dave, and this channel is so far proving to mostly be about my over-30-year continuing failure to stop buying film music. I've built up a collection of slightly too many CDs, plenty of vinyl records, and a yepsen of cassettes. Most of my uploads will therefore consist of me unpacking deliveries of that sort of stuff.
However, it's not inconceivable that in the future there will be content on other topics, such as typography and MS Word, or cryptic crosswords. Stay tuned to find out!

2024 June Disempackagements
You know the drill by now: it's me marking the passing of another calendar month by cutting open corrugated card and ripping into padded bags to retrieve CDs in broken jewel cases and the occasional dusty third-hand record. Most of them are film soundtracks.

I apologise for the length of this month's video, but I seem to have bought a lot. Please stop releasing new music and/or making old music available at unexpectedly reasonable prices.

How much toot have I bought this month, and will any of it be not-film-scores? There's only one way to find out, and that's to dive in...

Welcome to another month spent throwing money at people in order for them to post shiny discs of plastic to me. You'll GASP! as cardboard mailers are flung across the room. You'll THRILL! as jewel-case hub teeth cascade onto the floor. You'll LAUGH! as I squint at ever-smaller print on booklets. Etc.

The shortest month (even with the leap day) means a new round of boxes and jiffy bags to rip open, and more soundtracks to listen to! What will it be this time? New releases? Old classics? Obscurities? Compilations you won't believe I haven't already owned for decades? A book? All of the above? There's only one way to find out...

Here's my clunky attempt at a tribute specifically to composers we lost in the past year. I see Grindhouse Funhouse has already done a 2023 In Memoriam - and picked up a couple of composers I missed. Yes, it's another month of purchases. Far, far too many of them, as you can tell from the 40-minute runtime, which will test all your stamina, I am sure. Get a hot beverage before you start. Admittedly there are things like books and a DVD in here as well as the usual music. Heigh-ho.

Yes, another month of our drab wretched lives has flown by, and in order to not let the misdeeds of our woeful governments tip me over the brink into the well of despair, I have continued to distract myself with the purchase of miscellaneous audio recordings (plus the occasional kitchen accessory). You can experience this desperate denial of reality vicariously by hitting the play button.
I looked up the "Sweet Lies" soundtrack on Discogs... 80 seconds of Trevor Jones? Bloody hell.
Quite 😂
Another good haul. I somehow wound up with 2 copies of "The Protector"... I've got "Guns For San Sebastian" twice over but that 's the Chapter III release pairs it with "Dark Of The Sun" and then the FSM expansion.
"One Little Indian" was a good listen... Sadly when you mentioned "Sister Sister" I immediately thought of the sitcom!
Another nice haul Dave, like the James Mason impression
All this talk of broken teeth - you may need to see a dentist!😂
Did you get the new Temple of Doom and Last Crusade lps?
Nah. Didn't really see any point. I've got the CDs. It's not as if there's anything extra on these. If I found one of the old original LP releases for sale somewhere at a reasonable price I might be tempted by THAT for nostalgia's sake... Having said that though, I have got on order a copy of the recent Cowboys vinyl reissue despite owning both CD versions so I know I'm not being consistent/logical 😬 Perhaps I'm just reluctant to send any more money Disney's way...
I got the original release of "Arsene Lupin" at a Debbie Wiseman concert! I stupidly asked what it was like scoring a French movie...
Another nice haul Dave Caravans and Ipcress File are standouts can’t beat a bit of Barry & Batt
A well established tradition the 1st of the month is now with Dave’s disempackagments! Soundtracks from far and wide - and Farnham! 😀
I was just lamenting that it's June 1st and I haven't broken 300 purchases this year.
Slacking Mr Birdman! 😂
Five months in ... that'd be 60 a month so about two a day; sounds well within your capabilities. You're obviously conserving your energy for the second half of the year. 😛
@@skirwingle I may end up with a MEGA MASSIVE Deutsche Gramaphone box in November for a final push.
😂@@danielherrin
CURSE YOU!!!! Just bought that Toy Soldiers off Ebay. Did you get the slightly expanded or standard?
Standard
@@skirwingle it's just 5 extra minutes
I've got that Bernstein BOX set as well, now to get the OG records. Most excellent purchase.
Well, I've got ONE of them - The High and the Mighty/Search for Paradise 😛
I priced it out, it was going to cost more for the lps than the box cds 😮@skirwingle
Love the Bernstein box set
Thank you! 😂 Nosferatu reminded me of the time we discovered the UK and US pronunciations differ when Joe Hills book was released with region specific covers!
[goes away and looks this up ...🤯]
@@skirwingle Nos 4 R2 and Nos 4 A 2 I believe
@@RetroReels Well, yeah, so I gathered from looking at a gallery of book covers. TBH, I've never heard it pronounced the latter way, and would probably give the speaker a funny look if I did! 😂
Nice haul. I might get that 2-CD Bernstein compilation... what's the title of the set, if you don't mind my asking?

Another month of great acquisitions! 🎬💿
Hi Dave. Got that Debney Seaquest set myself from the new UK Varèse store. Been wanting it for a while but not at the prices people were charging. Goes without saying that your March haul was mightily impressive.
"Point of No Return"/"The Assassin" could've done with 100% less Nina Simone and more Hans Zimmer. Good haul all round.
Goodie goodies goodies. Thank for sharing.
Coming this Halloween from the minds, of Clive Barker; Stephen King" and John Carpenters" childhoods; dream....s.....The Rogue Typists_
Distressed by apostrophes! Sounds like a good name for a band! 😂
"Big Wednesday" excellent choice!
I got the Bernstein bio a few weeks ago.
I shall smote you with the sheer volume of my John Williams collection 😂
Did you open your Rambo lp set?
Great answers Dave. Looking forward to hearing the full version of We have all the time in the world! 😂
Great video
Brilliant video. I've said this before, I love your videos. I love your wit, you candor... you have great screen presence. You have an engaging, insightful, honest, bright personality and you have a collection to die for! Thanks for sharing in such great detail! Well done!
Mmm….doughnuts (a great CD packaging gag)….62? Really? Amazing. Impressive….Most impressive.
GREAT SCOTT!!!
I'll go through the rest of the series. I've got 9 of those...
Interesting to see your John Scott collection, nice video Thanks
Fantastic soundtrack score collection! Many of those not available on vinyl record. I am always watching and waiting for those that might be reissued for vinyl. So good they're available on CD.
I do like that Bartelby soundtrack. And the film.
Another impressive month of eclectic aquisitions! Wonka is getting a deluxe release in April via the NEw Mutant label - ill share a link to it in the group. You can look at it whilst listening to Marnie whilst eating a Sarnie!🤪
Have you seen the Irish remake? Blarnie.
@@skirwingle 😂
Sepia is a British label.
"It's My Party" - Basil Poledouris and Olivia Neutron-Bomb!
Yes indeed!
Brad Fiedel did "The Serpent and the Rainbow".
Love, LOVE these videos! Thanks for sharing!
Really? That's gratifying to hear 🙂
Clint Black is a country singer. Tammin Sursok used to be on "Home And Away" and then upped sticks for the US and went to US daytime soaps, "Pretty Little Liars" and untold Hallmark and Lifetime TV movies.
Oxfam does soundtrack albums?
Their online shop has a lot of music, and you can *theoretically* filter it by genre. Their idea of "soundtracks" does include weird stuff like LPs of train sounds, but I find it worthwhile to have a scroll through about once every second month, sorted by "recent arrivals" as occasionally there's something interesting. I got a few old FSM golden/silver-age classics that way. *Sometimes* they're clearly aware of rarity and put a ridiculous price on a thing, but just as often not.
I still need to mail your Christmas present
Very kind 🙂
@@skirwingle the sickness has been keeping me down
@@danielherrin no worries; hope things improve soon 🙂
The only Invada release I've got is their expansion of Craig Safan's "Warning Sign".
