Thanks. Will further feedback to Prudence soon. Busy practicing with templates and reading very helpful notes.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks. I found this useful having come across your Site today. I'm looking at the classic family history book template for Canva.
Glad it was helpful!
Why separate worksheets? It makes much more work. Good on ya for keeping track though!

You are so welcome!
Thank you super simple and helpful

Just found your youtube and looking to do your course in the future. saving money. I have done my family history around 30 years and now i am updating for my grandchildren for the future. i would love to learn how to write my memories to include with my family tree. THANK U MAM

Thank you for showing us this function. G'day 😇
Hope it saves you time!
I have used timelines for decades, mostly to find blanks in my research and now for writing my stories.
I ♥ timelines, too!
That was awesome.... thanks so much.
Glad you liked it!
Thank you so much.
You're welcome!
Great video. I am not a fan of writing prompts unless the prompts are photos. But it's okay to disagree. Right?
There isn't one approach to writing a family history but finding the way that is right for you.
Thank you so much! Wow! All this time! Love it!
You are so welcome!

HI Prudence. Just wanted to let you know my family book arrived yesterday and I am so chuffed. Thanks to you and your course my idea became a reality.
Wonderful! You did an incredible job putting that together so quickly. I'm sure everyone is going to love it.
@@thecreativefamilyhistorian Thanks Prudence, I will certainly let you know how it is received by Mum
I've definitely been struggling recently with trying to write and edit at the same time. It can be a very hard habit to break. Thanks for the reminder
I totally agree, it's a really hard habit to break.
Hi Prudence! I've used your worksheets several ways- typed into the forms, loaded them to my iPad and used Goodnotes, and as my collection of sheets has grown I finally printed them and added them to a binder. I'll use this information to create a book but gathering the details where I can lay them out has been really helpful. :)
Love the creativity and inspired ways you're building your family history.
Great tips!! I wish I would have watched this before creating my first digital scrapbook with over 200 pages. I did exactly what your client did in regards to print sizing. It was my son's "School Years" book that I wanted to share at his graduation, I spent 100s of hours scanning, designing, and typing. When I went to submit it to the printer I found that my 8 1/2" x 11" design was too large for the 8x10 book that they printed. I thought I had checked and that I was using the right size, ugh! I ended up bringing the pdf book to another program and cropped everything to the right size. So much time wasted. The binding tips gives me more to think about with the genealogy book I'm working on. Thank you!
Ouch! It's awful when that happens but you'll only do it once! I'm sure every other book has been perfectly set up.
All of those points apply!
Great tip. Thanks for sharing
This is the first of your videos I have seen. But to answer your question about my worksheets... I Really enjoy using the Census Tools Worksheets I got from the original author many years ago. For what worksheets I have created and use myself, there is first my State-County worksheets. These function for me as my personalized versions of The Handy Book and The Red Book. I also created spreadsheets for all of my marriages. Next I'll be creating Other Vitals Spreadsheets
greetings from Poland :-) I like your videos and trying to find ideas to create my own family history , I will watch all your videos to pick up ideas :-) questions How to contact you ? or how to post some question ? thanks, kind regards, any video regarding time I would like 1 to show my family "history " and in paralle some important historical events well the smal history in the Great History , any videos ideas template to get insperation ? thanks in advance :-)
Hi Christophe. No video ideas I'm afraid, but watch this space in 2023 for more content on document your family history -audio, written and video. If you want to ask a question then the Ask The Creative Family Historian is the best place for that - forms.gle/FsUmWotLNufTPKb56. Or via the contact form on my website www.creativefamilyhistorian.com/
@The Creative Family Historian, if as a Author I have Hard, Soft and Digital versions of my book and want to do a public event like a book signing, book fair, or arts/crafts show, is there a way to get plastic gift cards printed with a code from say Kindle so readers can buy the card and download later?
Sorry, I'm not savvy about Amazon codes for Kindle sales. You'd need to check with them directly to find out what was possible for offsite sales. You may need an alternate delivery method. Best of luck with the events!
@@thecreativefamilyhistorian Ok. Follow up question. My first book is in Editing and I plan to use Ingram Spark for printing/distro. Have you used them? Were you generally happy with their quality, Customer Sevice, speed, etc?
Sorry, I'm not able to help with reviews. You could try a google search or reddit to find people with experience with those services. Best of luck with your project!
When I was writing my Great Grandmother's Ancestor snapshot using your template and this method, I had an 'aha' moment. I was looking at the graphic in the top right of the template..."my story". If it's her story, I should write it in her voice. So I wrote the whole thing in first person, and it came out wonderfully...a sort of potted autobiography.
Sounds like a great approach!
Your books are gorgeous! I love seeing the thought that goes into creating them, I'm looking forward to seeing more behind the scenes. I can get hung up on picking fonts or a background and never get anywhere :) Thank you for the video!
Thank you so much. I have some videos planned that will interest you - about creating mood boards, choosing fonts and making design decisions quickly. They'll be popping up on the channel over the next month or two.
I never really thought about checking if I had the right programs for a template. I just thought is it for Mac or for Windows.. Thank you for the information.
I hope it proves helpful!
Thanks for this video. I was looking for something like this several months ago. After seeing a few videos and articles on it, I ended up starting to use Microsoft OneNote to set up digital “notebook” per family line that includes folders for various document types and space for notes and stories. My goal is to share a cloud link so that other family members can see what I have so far. It has been working great so far.
This is brilliant. Thank you so much for sharing 😊
You are welcome, I'm glad it was helpful.
Thank you. I have been working on a large project and you have given me some good ideas on how to more efficiently move forward
You're very welcome! Best of luck with the big project.
Thank you Prudence, I needed this! I enjoy the beginning of tasks but then get lost along the way. The next project I am working on is to gather information on four generations of family units (name, BDM dates and references, children and their spouse's name, trove search). I start and then get side tracked by what I discover. I am really enjoying your content. Thank you.
I'm so glad it was helpful. Best of luck with your new project!
Great!
Great idea! Thank you!
Hi Prudence I've used Word for years and had no idea that styles existed! No wonder Word drives me mad half the time, it seems like I really only know the basics! Thanks for the really helpful video! Ali
Style superpower unlocked! I hope it helps make wrangling Word much easier going forward.
Ooh didn’t know about all the ins and outs of that side bar- very interesting. Thanks for sharing
Microsoft Word has so many features that often don't get talked about!
That was soooo helpful. I love your worksheets and use them all the time
Thank you, I'm so glad they're useful!
Prudence ~ thank you so much! This is very helpful and I'm actually glad you received an error to show it is not a big deal. Appreciate the video and help!
Glad it was helpful! I'm glad the error happened to so I could show how I deal with them.
Very helpful, thanks!
So glad it was useful!
Great idea to send worksheets to family to get more info! Way simpler than trying to do it by email or phone with some relatives.
It's my version of the "lazy girl guide to genealogy" 🤣
I'm DEFINITELY a "Person B"! I'm very fortunate that on both my paternal and maternal sides, others before me have done a lot of the leg work for me, so I have a great foundation. Of course with the advent of the internet, I can expand upon their work citing sources, access to census, cemetery/burial information, death certificates. So....I'm also looking up information about their hometown histories including county & state history, not to mention the history and facts about the countries from which our ancestors migrated. This is truly a labor of love. And I wouldn't want it any other way. (Yeah. I'm that kid who took a one term class on how to write term papers, and also cut up National Geographics to create an illustrated term paper too!)
It sounds like you are very enthusiastic and passionate about your projects, and that you enjoy the process as much as the result. That's fabulous! ☺
Another great video, Prudence. Love your method of using Trello. Thank you for sharing all the detail of how you use it.
I hope it was helpful. I love the versatility of Trello!
Great information in this video, Prudence. Thank you. Hope you're finding success in your efforts on youtube and with your templates -- and having fun in the pursuit.
Thanks Todd, I'm so glad you're finding the tips useful.
Wow wow about photo metadata - absolutely brilliant thank you Prudence. If I can gradually implement this that will be great. Is a tag simply made with a hashtag?
It will depend on your operating system, but tagging your photos should be as easy as going into Properties, then looking for Details (or similar), and there will be a tag field. Then type the word/s and separate them with a comma or semi-colon. And you know my motto, always do things in small batches so it doesn't overwhelm you!
@@thecreativefamilyhistorian thank you
I like this idea to create a multl volume set, one for each of my parents, then four grandparents using a similar theme. I hope I can do this soon, so I need to start planning. I have collected quite a lot of family history documents over the last 30+ years. Have you or anyone else done this?
Hey Jenny, yes, yes, yes. I've designed and created multiple family history books over the years. Some for myself and others for clients. Planning is the key to creating your books. Well, planning and content. I'm currently putting together the final touches to a course - Family History Book Blueprint - where you can learn how to use the I.D.E.A. framework to create your own book blueprints. Then all you have to do is add your content to the template of your choice. The waitlist is currently open and you can join that to be the first to know when the course launches in August - www.creativefamilyhistorian.com/bookblueprintwaitlist.
