These mosses were all collected around 6 months ago. They were only hydrated once before this video was recorded. The awns at the tips of the leaves of Syntrichia mosses are supplementary organs required when collecting water directly from the air. The roots (rhizoids) or leaves themselves are effective in collecting liquid water from the base of the plants.
KEY 🔑 13 HOURS; Willowherbs' RACE AGAINST THE CLOCK! (See description)
มุมมอง 292 หลายเดือนก่อน
The species described is Epilobium adenocaulon (syn. ciliatum). In summary, plants that grow early in the season senesce and are unable to react to the 13 hours daylight which triggers the formation of clonal turions, thus dying without reproducing vegetatively. However, in the course of their life they will produce many thousands of seeds, also mainly clones. Other species such as obscurum, hi...

Hello . 💖☺️ Have a great new week .
Thanks May. Have a Great Christmas ⛄😎🎄🥂
I'm glad you put that chart up Alan, it shows so clearly that CO2 has been falling dramatically throughout Earth's history, and you're absolutely right, it has no bearing on Earth's temperature. In fact if it gets much lower, everything on the planet will die 😬
It's nice to know that CO2 is a good guy.... And waste heat is an inevitable fact of life. Thanks for watching Ziggy and have a great Christmas ⛄🍻🥂🎄🌟
No one expects the Epilobium obscurum 🙂
@@ZiggySearchfieldCactus 🤣🤣 It's easily missed!! It was growing in my garden this year... it's quite different from the others. Thanks for watching Ziggy! 😎👍
Good morning . 💖☺️ Have a happy Sunday .
You too Mai, thanks for watching! 😎👍
How much is the monstera priced at Morrison plz?
@@jyothianandan2166 It was at B&Q priced at £10...thanks for watching!
I just dug a load up from my potato patch. Thought of you Alan 😁
Thanks Ziggy! These Willowherbs are at their most vulnerable at this time of year...
@@newbotany They are in my potato patch 😬
Are they seedlings or adult plants? RHS recommends hoeing to remove seedlings.
@@newbotany Both Alan, I've dug the lot over now. Video to come on the other channel when I've done 🙂
Brilliant knowledge shared with us, felling much love into the wild nature even from tiny basic life 396 follower and lovely 🎈🎃🎃
Thanks for watching, subscribing and for your kind comments! 😎👍
Early winter but really a pretty farming place, surprised me with one banana tree growing there indeed they love humid weather 🌴🌴🌴
Thanks! 🙏😎👍
Hello . 💖☺️ Have a happy new day .
Hi Mai, you too and thanks for watching! 😎👍
😬😬😬😬They're thinking about something 😬😬
Thanks Ziggy... But I've no idea what you mean..🤭😳😚
Cor, the kids would love that Alan 😎
Thanks for watching Ziggy. Thinking about this I've started to wonder if the adhesion is a really just a reaction between the water on the mosses and the glaze on the wooden bowl..🤔
Good morning . 😊💖 Have a wonderful weekend .
Hi Mai, you too and thank you for watching! 😎👍
Don't buy another Monstera 😬
Who knows what it might get up to?? Thanks Ziggy! 🎋
It'll be a graveyard smash 😁😁🪴🪴
Thanks Ziggy... Everyone's doing the Monster Mash! 👻👻👾👾
@@newbotany You'll catch on in a flash 😁
@ZiggySearchfieldCactus In fact, it'll be a gas ! ⛽ ⛽
Wow!
Thanks for watching!👍👍
@@newbotany You are so welcome!
Good morning . 💖☺️ Have an awesome new day .
Thanks Mai..you too 😎👍
Nice little setup Alan 🙂 They spelt Medlar wrong though 😬 Like a good bit of composting 😎
@@ZiggySearchfieldCactus Yes this is a fantastic resource for families in Nottingham. It also provides work placements for young people with special educational needs. Thanks for watching Ziggy! 👍😎
@@newbotany Excellent 🙂 I help out with SEN students down the local nursery too 🙂
@ZiggySearchfieldCactus It's very rewarding with SEN children, as I also know from my own experience.
Some good stuff there Alan 🙂 🪴🪴🌵🌵
Thanks for looking in, Ziggy 👍😎! Bardill's is tempting and the prices have come down a bit since COVID.
"Such a beautiful collection! 🌿✨ Anthuriums, Alocasias, Haworthias, and Tillandsias all in one place sounds like a plant lover's paradise at Bardill's! Can't wait to see all the vibrant greenery! 🌸🌱"
Yes it's a great place for plant lovers and collectors. Thanks for watching, EP!
Very interesting Alan 🙂 I don't think anyone else has done a video of this 😬😬😎😎
Thanks Ziggy! It is noticeable that some of the moss shoots change over time.. some die, new ones grow, even in the desiccated state.
Pretty cool. I like that sort of stuff
@@Jay9595 Thanks for watching...I am adding more information in the description.
"Such a fascinating project! 🌿✨ It’s amazing to see how you’re regenerating the cushion moss collection. The transformation is inspiring, and it’s great to learn about the resilience of #syntrichia! 💚🌱"
Thanks for watching 👍😎!
Hello . 😊💖 Have a great weekend .
You too Mai! 😀Thanks for looking in!
Aah, some Sempervivums die before they've made offsets 😬 I wonder if there's a Nottingham Willowherb growing in America? 🙂🙂🪴🪴
Thanks Ziggy. There is I think some similarity and link between Crassulaceae and Epilobium, in the formation of 4-angled buds. Hairy Willowherb (E. hirsutum) is a UK native now a pernicious invader in the USA. So we've swapped invasives! 😳🤔
@@newbotany I just found out that the Bridgwater beans I sent to Texas died 😬
🥺🥺😂
Hello . 💚☺️ Have a happy Sunday .
Have a great week filming, Mai 👍😎😀

So pretty plant ❤️🌸🍀like 5, nice video, hello my new friend new subscriber 🎁
Thanks for watching! 😎👍
That’s an aloe
It really is a Puya, though it's starting to look like a tree Aloe, with dead leaves clasping the trunk.
Very Hairy 😬

@@newbotany 😬😬😁😁
It's a bugger 😁
You gotta love em, real survivors until Mrs Zigs does the weeding! 😜🤣🤣
@@newbotany You should see the compost heap 😬
@@ZiggySearchfieldCactus Does it get hot? I did research on composting for about 15 years.
@@newbotany I don't know, it's about 10 foot high 😬 I have to hoik it up with the pitchfork.
Good pineapple Alan 😎
Yes it does look a bit like a pineapple.. member of the same family 👍😎, thanks for watching Ziggy!
I’m not asking you to smoke it, but if you do, let us know how it goes 😂
Strangely enough, this has no record of being smoked, though it's been used in herbal teas. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for an interesting video, I had never really thought about this much but there is still so much to learn about plant behaviour.
Thanks for watching! 😎👍
Interesting Alan 🙂 Zig's Simplified theory of leaf movement states that they're not using the leaves for photosynthesis at night so they poke upwards in case it rains which guides the water toward the roots instead of keeping it away from them 🙂
Thanks Ziggy! For a mind-blowing read, have a look at this paper on Boquila trifoliata. This takes plant behaviour to another level.. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8903786/
@@newbotany Blimey 😬 I had an ex girlfriend who did the same with shop window manequins 😬😬
@@ZiggySearchfieldCactus 😲😲🤣
Very interesting video! I have noticed this habit occurring in outdoor plants when I am walking my dog. One plant in particular that I notice with its leaves folded is the Partridge Pea.
Thanks for watching! It's interesting that a lot of plants in the pea family move their leaves, most notably the famous Sensitive Plant, Mimosa pudica.
Very beautiful plants ! 💖
Thanks Mai! Have a great week! 😎👍
@@newbotany You too . Thank you . ☺️
Show close up of plant
Thanks for watching! There is a close-up of the flower head at 0.57, sorry I didn't do close-ups of the rest of the plant.
Hello . 😊💖 Have a great time .
Thanks Mai! 👍😄👍
There's no escape from that Epilobium 😬 I've found the KT boundary about 10 miles from here, it wasn't a good day to be outside when that asteroid hit 😬
Thanks Ziggy! I am surprised that anything survived the impact. I would have expected the atmosphere to have been completely depleted of oxygen by the asteroid impact... Making it impossible for the flowers to survive. 🤔
@@newbotany Not just the atmosphere, top layers of the sea probably lost a lot too. The only ammonite that survived was the Nautilus which is a deep sea one. If you think about the animals that made it, most of them were in mud, water or burrows, glod knows how they got enough to breathe? 😬
Interesting... Thanks for your thoughts on this Ziggy!
"Fascinating look at how flowering plants adapt and survive mass extinction events! 🌺🌿 Their resilience and ability to evolve are truly remarkable. This deep dive into their survival strategies is both educational and inspiring. Great to see such important ecological insights!"
