I will forever remember how Debbie Reynolds died from pure sadness and pain the very next day after her daughter Carrie Fisher died. I cried my eyes out and I still do every time I think about them. Rest in peace, Kathy Selden and princess Leia Organa!
MacLaine wanted the lead in Unsinkable Molly Brown, instead Reynolds got her only Oscar nomination for the role. Reynolds wanted this role & it went to MacLaine. More years pass & they finally co-star in These Old Broads, in roles Fisher wrote for them.

I love the songs from "Follies", and "I'm Still Here" is my favorite of all. I actually first hear Shirley MacLaine sing it in "Postcards from the Edge" and it stuck in my mind, which is how I discovered "Follies". This is really a great number for career actress/singers "of that certain age" that have proved to be survivors of Broadway and Hollywood to put their own life experiences into their performance, which has led so some really stellar performances. But I continue to return to this Performance again and again, MacLaine was just perfection in her performance.
Shirley MacLaine is my favorite in this film. Meryl Streep was fantastic as always. Superb actor. However my heart goes to Shirley with just about anything she touches. Absolutely adore her. And this performance of I'm still here is the best version of them all!!
Streep should have pursued singing. She had a great voice and stage presence. She said she loved to sing but her family did not encourage it. That's really too bad.
When I lived and worked in LA, there were times that we attended parties of our famous clients. Virtually all were slot of fun! If they weren't great fun...they were most assuredly...INTERESTING! Invariably, very much like this scene, there was always that one queen, central casting, who would, "Come on (whoever) sing for us!" ... "Okay, now (other) YOU sing something!" Almost ALWAYS wanted to SMACK her!! LoL
