See a short clip of magical Gdansk, in particular the older part of the city that I visited just after Christmas. Nestled along the Baltic coast in northern Poland, Gdańsk's Old City Centre is a captivating blend of maritime history and architectural splendor. As a prominent hub of trade in the Hanseatic League, the city has long been synonymous with its vibrant marina and bustling markets. The Old Town's architecture is a testament to centuries of cultural exchange, featuring ornately decorated townhouses with gabled roofs, Gothic churches like St. Mary's Basilica-the largest brick church in the world-and Renaissance gems such as the Artus Court, a former meeting place for merchants.
Gdańsk is also renowned as the 'Amber Capital of the World.' For centuries, local artisans have transformed amber, the fossilized resin of ancient trees found along the Baltic coast, into exquisite jewelry and art. In workshops throughout the Old Town, skilled craftsmen showcase their age-old techniques, from shaping and polishing to intricate carving, keeping the city's amber-making heritage alive.
The clip is just a glimpse of Gdańsk: the Old Town colourful facades, cobblestone streets, and iconic landmarks like the Neptune Fountain.
