Alfred's Amazing World
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 ก.พ. 2021
Welcome to Alfred's Amazing World, a place for discovering all manner of strange stuff. Mainly old video games, but there could be other things too. D'ya really think I'm a dullard?
Todd's Adventures in Slime World (Sega Mega Drive) - Easy Adventure Playthrough
This game is green, very, very green. Perhaps this is understandable considering this is Slime World after all, but you'll notice most of the screen is just covered in green with the action confined to small, claustrophobic caves. This is probably in part due to this Mega Drive version being a rather unoptimized port of an Atari Lynx game which obviously had a lower resolution. That version also supported up to 8 players, but this version only supports a maximum of 2 players.
There are 6 different adventures to choose from in the menu, each with their own unique challenges (the Logic adventure strips you of your gun while you must collect mushrooms in the Suspense adventure to add more time before Slime World is destroyed) and this is the most basic Easy adventure.
You have a gun to destroy enemies and numerous items can be collected although I have no clue how you're supposed to activate them, only that holding the A button brings up a menu that lets you switch between the items. Defeated enemies spray slime that sticks to you which will eventually kill you unless you find a water pool to clean yourself up in.
There are a few good ideas here, but this game is badly let down by it's rather awkward jumping and climbing controls, frustrating level design (there are all sorts of hidden pits and traps you can't see coming) and dreadful audio with repetitive music and some of the worst sound effects ever heard in a Mega Drive game. It's OK overall and I've played much worse, but it could have been a lot better too.

Alfred Tries To Play: Wolfchild (Sega Mega Drive)
มุมมอง 135วันที่ผ่านมา
Am I a little late for werewolves with it being over 2 weeks since Halloween? But no matter, I still played this game in which your main character is a werewolf. When you start each stage, you're an ordinary man who can just throw punches but if you power-up enough, you turn into a werewolf who can shoot. Take enough damage and you revert back to a man again. It sounds interesting but the level...
Alfred Tries To Play: Super SWIV (SNES)
มุมมอง 43821 วันที่ผ่านมา
This is an interesting vertical shooter for the SNES, particularly as you have the choice of 2 different vehicles. The jeep can fire in any direction but must navigate it's way round the terrain while the helicopter can only shoot straight ahead but is able to fly around the screen without restriction. In a 2 player game, both vehicles are used. For me, the helicopter is always better because I...
Alfred Tries To Play: The Misadventures of Flink (Sega Mega Drive)
มุมมอง 185หลายเดือนก่อน
Don't flinch, it's the Misadventures of Flink! Though what kind of misadventures are these, he seems capable enough. This is a rather colorful platformer with some nice detailed graphics. In terms of gameplay, this is decent but not a particularly memorable platformer with much in the way of distinguishing features and Flink is too slow to get moving, it seems most deaths come from his slow speed.
Alfred Tries To Play: Super Scope 6 (SNES)- Blastris B
มุมมอง 135หลายเดือนก่อน
If you're wondering where Blastris A went, here's your answer: th-cam.com/video/X9G6w0sZM-U/w-d-xo.html But Blastris B is altogether different from Blastris A, it plays a lot more like Columns in that you must arrange lines containing 3 or more of the same colored block to clear them. Shooting the individual blocks rotates them and changes their color. Some metallic blocks can't have their colo...
Alfred Tries To Play: Bio-Hazard Battle (Sega Mega Drive)
มุมมอง 397หลายเดือนก่อน
Certainly there seems to have seen some sort of bad bio-hazard disaster on whatever world this game takes place on as you face all sorts of grotesque and disgusting creatures, many of which appear to be giant insects. This game is one of the more unique and enjoyable Mega Drive shooters, thanks to a reasonable difficulty level, good power-ups (that vary depending on which of the 4 characters yo...
Alfred Tries To Play: Spindizzy Worlds (SNES)
มุมมอง 1852 หลายเดือนก่อน
Time to get dizzy, spindizzy in Spindizzy Worlds and your character is literally a spinning top! His name is GERALD and the game wants to make it seem he's a hi-tech geographic mapping device, but he's just a spinning top! This is an interesting physics based puzzle game. Moving GERALD builds momentum and sometimes you'll need a lot of it to traverse gaps or move uphill, but at other times you'...

Alfred Tries To Play: Whip Rush (Sega Mega Drive)
มุมมอง 3182 หลายเดือนก่อน
The title initially seems completely random given the complete lack of whips in the game until you read the subtitle on the title screen: 2222AD: The Invasion of the Voltegians, which refers to the opening story where a group of exploration spaceships go missing near the planet Voltegeus and a week later an invasion fleet attacks Earth. This game seems to emphasize the speed feature more than m...
Alfred Tries To Play: Cyber Spin (SNES)
มุมมอง 3543 หลายเดือนก่อน
I have a feeling by using the word 'Cyber' in the title this is going for a futuristic theme, but nothing about the game seems to be at all futuristic, it's a pretty standard racing game. The overhead perspective is interesting and it sure goes so fast, it's just I find the controls very twitchy. Not too much to say about this one.
Alfred Tries To Play: Super Breakout (Game Boy Color)
มุมมอง 1253 หลายเดือนก่อน
What's super about Super Breakout? Well I guess it's super in that's a good variety of interesting variations I suppose. In addition to the Regular game which is simply basic Breakout, there's Double which introduces a 2nd ball, Cavity in which you can free 2 balls which then remain in play only until they are lost and Progressive, a seemingly endless version of Breakout where lines of blocks s...
Alfred Tries To Play: Space Megaforce (SNES)
มุมมอง 873 หลายเดือนก่อน
Space Megaforce! Presented by Toho. So goes the excited intro for this game like it's some sort of masterpiece they're really proud of. I think this is more Space Midforce than anything else. It's pretty bland in every regard and there are many different weapons to try but I struggled to find one that was worth it. There are much better shooters out there.
Alfred Tries To Play: Summer Challenge (Sega Mega Drive)
มุมมอง 4133 หลายเดือนก่อน
The sequel to Winter Challenge (th-cam.com/video/EV53i9ORzs0/w-d-xo.html), like that game this is pretty much an unofficial Olympics game, though based on the Summer Olympics instead of the Winter Olympics this time. As in Winter Challenge, there is a selection of different events to choose from and there is much use of primitive 3D, which as in that game looks somewhat impressive but tanks the...
Izzy's Quest for the Olympic Rings (Sega Mega Drive) Complete Playthrough
มุมมอง 2294 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Olympics are here at last, so to celebrate I decided to play this fun little Olympic-themed platformer starring Izzy, the mascot for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta! (I would like to add that I think Izzy is unfairly reviled, I actually find him rather charming) In this platformer, Izzy must collect all 5 Olympic Rings in order to open an exit to Atlanta and light the flame to star...
Alfred Tries To Play: Wonder Dog (Sega Mega-CD)
มุมมอง 4854 หลายเดือนก่อน
So from what I can gather from the opening cutscenes (one of which I skip), Wonder Dog is an alien dog who comes to Earth for whatever reason and a human boy wants to adopt him, but his father refuses. Wonder Dog misses the boy and gets back to his spaceship and suits up ready to go after him. Anyway, after all that is done, there's a decent platformer beneath that isn't the freshest game you'l...

I wrote the SNES version of Alfred. I actually got 4 months to write it, but for a game of that size, 4 months was too short. I would say we needed at least 6 months to have also polished it further, Jason did want 12 but that was never going to happen. Also, I wrote the Megadrive port which was basically the Snes version, but played better and had more polish. Unfortunately we suffered from the industry ‘moving on’ and before it had sound added, Mindscape cancelled the project. The Megadrive was just losing its’ sales by then… I did have a rom copy of the Megadrive version, but TBH, AFTER 25 years, unfortunately have no idea where it went. Shame, it was my favourite version of the lot. Yeah, there are rights issues as to why the megadrive version without sound has not seen the light of day, but that is beyond my control.
Ah, it’s funny finding this after 30 years. I was the guy who wrote all of the main game, a second programmer did the title sequence. There’s a ton of hidden levels in the game, if I remember correctly the very first screen has hidden platforms if Alfred just keeps jumping upward as he walks. And yeah, we knew chickens were female, lol.
YEEEEEEEEhh AWESOME game... I still would like to see Your face and comments Pls.
Fun fact: Daron Nefcy voiced Starfan13
I was looking for this game on ebay. Is it only on the famicom? That's all ebay had that I saw. Famicom games don't play on a snes is what heard.

15:08, this theme was all I had to go off of when I was trying to remember what game it belonged to. Thanks fam.
Omg I played this game on the GameBoy color 🥺😭 I feel like I heard this music yesterday 🥲
I’m suprised how many ports this thing has
Originally an Amiga game, right? I’ve always loved isometric games like this, Marble Madness, Snake Rattle and Roll, and a totally similar game, X-Com: UFO Defense.
Thank You Daron Nefcy (StarFan13) for making this wonderful show!
Wait, is that her real name?

Sad. This could have been the the definitive GB version. It looks great and it removes the bad watering can ending. But without the boss and shooting it's not the same.

Wait this isn't a Saturn game these graphics are mighty impressive for the stock Mega Drive.
Jerry Boy is the Japanese version (I think) The International Version removed the cutscenes (which made me sad)
So that's why the main character moves along a film strip between stages, that must have been where the cut scenes were I didn't know that about the differences in the Japanese version, thank you!
Horrendous port of this marvelous sega game....
The main character controls like a puppet.
Good

Cool
There a 2 tigers in while of down
A North American Super Nintendo release was also planned but got cancelled.
Thx 4 upload. Takes me back
I was going to say this looks a lot like Smash TV and then I saw in the description that it was a sequel. That makes so much sense!
Where do I even play it
