One day while playing Mario Kart Wii and finishing 150cc for a 500th time, I was suddenly intrigued about how well shot the ending sequence was for this game. I don't think any Mario Kart before or after this one has created such a sophisticated cut-scene (scripted not pre-rendered) for "ending" the game. So I decided to dissect the cut-scene to see what is happening behind the curtains.

I made this in hopes some talented animator gets inspired and animates the whole 10 minutes of Kirby being cute. 👀 NIN-tend-JAS please don't kill me. I don't own the character or audio. It looks like the game has the characters constantly reset to move them into their positions properly. Once they reach their programmed destination they seem to quickly disappear. I can imagine the developers didn't want to deal with the physics and just wanted the characters where they are needed. I can't tell if they are stored somewhere, or they completely de-spawn. I assume the first since it would take too much resources to keep loading the characters in again and I'm sure the developers don't want to risk lag. The developers also couldn't risk them bumping into each other since collision is still active, as evident at the end. Speaking of the end, that was hilarious, they all turn into flies and ram into the wall except the player. The developers didn't bother with their way-points after they were completely off-screen. So now you can imagine them doing this in the cut-scene when the camera pans up in a tranquil manner.
