Very helpful
I have a program that was set up on a German keyboard, I need to enter the < symbol on my US keyboard as part of the password. My right ALT key does not work (German Alt Gr key). What combination do I need on my Is keyboard to get this symbol? Thank you.
Literally this is helpful ❤❤❤❤
I have no idea why this video hasn't become viral. i 100% understand what you've taught me and loved the way you're explaining. This is my first week learning german and you've made the learning journey easier for me. Thank you.
how about capital later and small latter
Thanks so much Vielen danke ❤
No idea what is going on but I get it 👌😊
😂😂😂
Sie use for they is written in lower case?
@HM-sid That is absolutely right! Only the formal version of "you" in German is capitalized all the time.
I am german too and you get all this thins in german quite easily. Brown sugar and chocolate chips are absolutely normal in a German supermarket. Baking soda is just called Backpuller. You can find it in little bags in the baking area. We don’t have it this big bags because we don’t use it for cleaning.
Backpulver is not the same as baking soda. Baking soda is referred to as Natron in German. For details about the brown sugar and chocolate chips, see my comment below. Part of the point of the video is that ingredients may have the same name in Germany, but are very different and not equivalent to American baking ingredients, which is helpful to know and also very interesting. I encourage you to try buying these ingredients if you ever visir the States to see how they are different.
how to get an impostor fee on a german keyboard?
From my experience (Im german) brown sugar and chocolate chips are in every grocery store in the baking aisle. Baking soda is a little more tricky. Its called Natron and you cant find it in many grocery stores but in ALL drogeriemärkte, like dm or rossmann. And with molasses you are right, thats very uncommon for germans i wouldnt even know what to use it for haha Hope you have a great day
That's great! There is "brown sugar" in Germany, but it's very different from American "brown sugar". If you're ever in the US, buy some brown sugar - very different. And like I said, baking soda is available in Germany, but just harder to find. There's also no shortage of chocolate in Germany 😃, but the available chocolate baking items are not generally equivalent to American chocolate chips unless German stores have changed their stocking practices in the past 4 years. I should have done closeups of my American ingredients so you can see!!
Helpful, thank you!
Thanks
Thank you it was very helpful !
danke
This was very useful and a very clear understanding of German sentences are backwards!, thank you.

wonderful voice after long time !!
I recently saw an Octoberfest in the US in September and I was confused. Thanks for your explanation.
I'm glad it was helpful! 😊 I guess that's the pitfall of naming an event after a time of year. If you ever change the date, it's very puzzling. 😄
I didn't know that lol 😂😂
😂
Damn girl. You are thicker than a bowl of oatmeal. Your partner is lucky.😍
Vielleicht sollte man auch die Floskeln vorstellen, die man tatsächlich im Alltag sagt.
Ja, auf jeden Fall! Ich könnte etliche Videos über die deutsche Sprache machen. 😃

How do you press the Guillements (< >) ond the german keyboard? Thanks!!!
Is the difference between krümel and speiserest just that one has been toasted?
According to Duden, Krümel is a very teeny tiny piece of food - usually from baked goods like bread or cake. I think it is similar in English. Speiserest could refer to small pieces of food or even big blobs left over on a dinner plate. "Rest" generally refers to something that is left over in German and "Speise" is food.
Fun thing about a lot of these words is while you wouldn't necessarily guess them you can see the shared roots with english or backform them. Krumel and crumb almost certainly have a shared root, wollmaus is something (possibly with a root shared with wool) + mouse, meaning it has a shared construction with dust + bunny. Fussel presumably has a shared root with fuzz, which is related to lint
You are absolutely right! Fascinating thoughts. German and English certainly did start out as the same language and grow apart over time. And "Wolle" does indeed mean "wool" in German, I could see that being related with the word "wool" in English. "Wollmaus" kind of translates directly to "wool mouse". What is cute is chinchillas are sometimes also called "Wollmaus". Dust bunnies and chinchillas do look like a little woolly mice, don't they?😆

How about the e umlaut, Dankeschön!
The umlaut is typically only placed over a, o, or u. There is no way to type e umlaut in the German keyboard. That's great news though, right? One less thing to remember.🙂
That’s not true, in America we have both meanings, it’s just about associating it with the situation - Or we emphasize that it is specifically a photo shooting. ie: “There’s gonna be a photo shoot at 3pm” rather than “There’s gonna be a shooting at 3pm” since we also use the phrase shooting for the much more negative gun shootings.
That's right, but you never say "I'm going to a shooting" in English (using photo shooting purely as a noun). In German, you would use the photo-related "shooting" as a noun.
@@learngermanlinguist in all fairness, it was likely used the same in the past in English, but words are very oftenly changing from their traditional use in English as well.
Yes, it is very interesting how words and their meanings change over time.

How can I actually type < and > on a German keyboard? I have been looking for it for a long time but there is no result :( Btw. thanks a lot for the other tips :)
Great question! I will probably make a follow-up video to this video with things like you just mentioned. Keep your eyes peeled.
It does not work...
This method only works on Windows 11 or similar systems. Check what kind of operating system you have on the computer. This method definitely does not work on Apple computers.
take a look at -[;' symbols, it will print ßüöä after you switch to german layout
@@ArtemKalmykovBless your heart, I have been scrolling the internet for 20 minutes trying to figure out where to find ß
