    Recently saw Forrest Gump for the umpteenth time. The last time, just a few days ago during these covid-19 times, and "Shit Happens' took on a new meaning. Yes, with Narelle Underwood as NSW Surveyor-General - STEM cell superstar; youngest, first woman, first tattoo, first from Picton, first Mung Thai, exceptional experience that must have been super-condensed into her few short years after uni; by her self-admission only being 75% right for the job but encouraged by Watkins clones Paul Harcombe and Des Mooney who sold out the surveying profession - indeed shit happens.

    Recognition of the jouney so far.... check out wiki Surveyor General of New South Wales: Narelle Underwood Superstar of STEM Underwood was the youngest person in 200 years and the first female to be appointed to the position of Surveyor-General. In 2018 Underwood was listed in the inaugural NSW Top 50 Public Sector Women and was awarded the 2017 UNSW Maria Skyllas-Kazacos Young Professional Award for Outstanding Achievement. [13] Underwood graduated from UNSW in 2009 with a BE Hons 1 Surveying & Spatial Information Systems and the University Medal. Underwood was appointed for "her wealth of experience", advised in the NSW government departmental media release.[14]Underwood’s "wealth of experience" for appointment is evidenced by graduation in 2009 and registration in late 2010.[15] [16] Underwood was recognised at the 2019 Women’s Agenda Leadership Awards, when she was named as co-winner of the ANZSOG-sponsored Emerging Female Leader in Government or Public Sector. Underwood was named as joint winner with Macquarie University academic Amy Thunig who won for her work in revolutionising settler-colonial approaches to education and building bridges between academia and the broader public. [17] Underwood is the first Superstar of STEM to be Surveyor General. [18] [19] Underwood is the first appointee to play AFL and train in Muay Thai kickboxing....... For how long will she continue the rants? @mixalis - agree.

    The Association of Consulting Surveyors NSW has disabled comments on th-cam.com/video/rLcQpet-Xpw/w-d-xo.html The honest feedback of the damage to the profession by Narelle Underwood was obviously unacceptable to the ACS CEO Michelle Blicavs. Continue the delusion Michelle.

    I used to work in land registration in NSW. My God, what has happened to NSW. The Watkins period allowed the rot to set in as he became the Collector of Titles. He paid the price for an ego almost Trumpian. What has followed is gut-wrenching. Privatization of the Titles Office is the worst disaster for NSW. The appointment of this person as Surveyor general, Ms. Underwood is a best an opportunity taken in the wake of Watkins crimes to window-dress with the worst, thinking it will get better. I agree with the sentiment of the recent comments of most here. Sir Thomas Mitchell would roll over in his grave. More to follow.

    Narelle, your performance as SG, continues to be more about your own self-promotion, rather than encouraging school leavers to become surveyors. You just are not connecting. I have been registered for 20 + years and I am also a planner.

    • @owenm9057
      @owenm9057 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well put Lyn. Narelle has been in the job since Oct 2016 - and the self-promotion continues: first woman SG; youngest SG in 200 years; STEM; speaking in Canberra; etc. I have grown tired of this - it is narcissistic. It is so off-putting. My high school children are even turned off by it.

      Couldn’t believe what people were talking about including my candidate surveyor. Now I believe it. I concur with comments posted. It has been sickening for the profession, so we need a diversion to this stuff - so music is a start. One of the songs I always loathed was Mental as Anything’s Ballad of Narelle, Parts 1 and 2. But, how ironic that we have Narelle as SG and her boss Bruce, Executive Director of Spatial Services. So to break the monotony of this boring TH-cam, consider: “Number seventeen Normal St in Normalville It's the house of normal Bruce and Narelle It's a party, a Saturday and happily They're celebrating their seventh anniversary Her best friend - Shazza did her hair today Dress supplied by K-mart on lay away Neil Diamond's distorting on the stereo Bruce is burning the bangers on the patio Narelle's spinning from all the G and T's she's sunk Everybody's happy, everybody's getting drunk Footy mates in the corner are talking cars Life's good at a party in suburbia Go Narelle, Narelle, Narelle girl you give it hell Narelle, Narelle, Narelle, Narelle yeah you give it hell ....." It gets a bit raucous after that and ends with : "Poor Narelle, her party was in hell, the coleslaw on the wall had shocking tales to tell There's one thing they have learned - barbecues can burn. And Shazza's gone - took her trust and said so long. And all the footy friends were finishing the prawns And Bruce is in disgrace - mascara running down her face But tomorrow is another day Bruce always mows the lawn on Sunday" So why bring this up at all? Good Q. But it is about as useful as Narelle is to the surveying profession of NSW. As REM used to sing, "It's been a bad day". It has been a bad day every day since October 2016 when Narelle was appointed. Thank you for your service Narelle. I am so ...., inspired.......no that's not quite right........so moved........ Now there is also a Rolf Harris song too - from earlier times - "Letter to Narelle". I am so uninspired. That's it. Fill your boots Narelle, you have walked all over the profession and run it down

    Has she ever swung a hammer while trying to sink pegs into very hard ground on a very hot day, lifted a crowbar up and down while digging up GI pipes or carried an instrument up a very steep hill? Has she ever worked in private practice or has she been sheltered from reality in the public service? There's a reason why it’s a male dominated profession, and unless she’s actually worked as a private surveyor in the real world she is not qualified for the job. This appears to be a PC, politically-motivated appointment. You’re right Owen; in my opinion it is a disgrace and I believe those responsible for her appointment should hang their heads in shame, as they have prostituted themselves for political reasons.

    • @owenm9057
      @owenm9057 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      True Cheryl. The field work will always be part of the job - someone has to do that. Narelle's prior experience is very limited - just check out LinkedIn.
