    Hi

  • @Alex-if3sr
    @Alex-if3sr 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So if it drips in the inspection cover, is that a faulty heat exchanger or sump?

    • @stevenroberts8671
      @stevenroberts8671 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it can be seen dripping without removing inspection cover it's likely the sump.

    • @Alex-if3sr
      @Alex-if3sr 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stevenroberts8671 I got a really strange issue. I remove the cover and it was dry, waited a few minutes and not a single drop fell. After heating is on, the condensate pipe drips but only for a little and then stops but the pressure in boiler drops ever so slightly. I'm confused as to what it could be. The prv is dry but the expansion vessel was charged 4 times higher than required. At almost 4 bars instead of the recommended 1. I have released some air and so far it's got better but still pressure drops a little. But again sump is dry and no drips from behind cover. It's definitely not the radiators or pipes either.

    I had a new install a month ago. Leaked due to gasket being incorrect composition, it was flat with no give. A bit of pvc tape across the gasket as a shim, sorted it. No cracks.

    In case anyone doesn't realise, this is a snippet for interest only. Gas work should only be done by competent engineers who know how to isolate, test etc. Apparently some people need this spelling out

  • @hali5341
    @hali5341 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don't want to sound negative but i didn't see safe isolation, isolating gas but yh i seen you open the gas valve in the end, no FGA, no draining boiler and recharging vessel, no clear guidance that this video is purpose to gas safe engineer only not DIY. I've replaced loads off top brand heat exchanger, yes these are quick to do but if everything straight forward, what i would off done as you had the gas valve out clean the injectors, check burner not damaged, cleaned trap etc...just snippet off changing components is dangerous to someone who's not confident.

  • @hali5341
    @hali5341 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mate the sump needs replacing, dont do cowboy jobs..there not too hard to replace, are you gas safe registered!.that crack is a cummon fault not a quick fix with LSX

    Good video guide here. After 8 years my heat exchanger has just started leaking. I found the leak by putting a bottle of blue food dye into the TF1 vessel. The next day the condensate trap went blue 🙂. Got a decent replacement one arriving in the next few days. At least this boiler isn't too tricky to work on.

    Answer to an Ideal boiler...scrap it abd fur a Viessmann. Design fault in heat exchanger...mine lasted 2 years from new. Replacement warranty one year not ten. Ideal will not guarantee their boilers for ten years unless it was fitted from new with their own brand filter. Avoid.

      Not true I have a logic plus in a rental property of mine and they have been out twice without question for repairs. Although I'm getting the baxi 800 in my upcoming rental

  • @aaaaancly
    @aaaaancly 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So my logic plus had a leaking heat exchanger. Rust inside on the metal plate at the bottom. Engineer said it might last a year, night go in 3 weeks. Needs a new boiler. Is he pushing for a bigger job? He said it's not cost effective to replace the heat exchanger. Boiler is about 7 years old. Serviced every year I'm a bit disappointed as he told me how good they are and that they are modular so easy to fix

    • @stevenroberts8671
      @stevenroberts8671 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Price heat exchanger up. Takes about an hour to change. It's usually the sump inspection that leaks externally wetting the combustion chamber. Heat exchanger often leak internally through Condense.

  • @loafersheffield
    @loafersheffield 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Newer models have that part that needs unscrewing underneath to release the condensate trap. Somewhat begs the question... Why did the heat exchanger fail so catastrophically that it needed replacing. Was it still under warrantee?

    • @stevenroberts8671
      @stevenroberts8671 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it was under warranty. They can fail if over pressurized or a bad casting I guess.

    • @loafersheffield
      @loafersheffield 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that. I have recommended the Logic and Vogue range to customers. I have become aware that the sumps can crack and fail/need replacing. Just annoys me that anyone, regardless of make/model, so many folk ignore the annual service, invalidate extended warranty and then complain when something does goes wrong. The main heat exchanger is probably the most expensive part. Good job the boiler was under initial 1 yr warrantee then.

    • @stevenroberts8671
      @stevenroberts8671 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@loafersheffield the sumps always crack, albeit hairline just above the inspection cover usually to the right. We replace loads, though if it was mine smearing a bit of silicone over the crack internally usually does the trick. Not a bad boiler to work on though

    First time seeing someone use silicone to make screws stick, if it works it works!

    • @loafersheffield
      @loafersheffield 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The silicone is used as a lube and as an adhesive. Lube to get it pushed into position without deforming the O rings and as a part adhesive to make sure the O rings don't fall off whilst moving them into position.
