Someone has been adding oil to the fuel my Briggs is older and it’s got no oil staining.

Torqe Wrenches dont make someone a professional!!! They give you consistency if you lack muscle memory. If anything they make you a perfectionist. If you really believe that a 45 well worn used B&S requires the use of a torque wrench? Than may I suggest also investing in a lot of Heli-Coil kits as well! SMFH! Something about aluminum threads, time and heat doesn't seem to have good effects on the OEM threads. They are already streached and brittle. On something like this engine, or aluminum period, unless you're planning to replace/repair the aluminum threads with some sort of ferrous inserts? I wouldn't suggest applying full torque to any of these old bolt threads! Just FYI. And yes your old briggs is still going to run just fine and not leak from not being tight enough. Experience speaking here.
LMAO! ❤ Funny how this channel was magically brought to my attention SMFH! But Google doesn't spy on us at all!?!? I literally just got finished on ebay shopping for what I thought would have been a "Dime A Dozen" engine on the internet today from the mid to late 70s and early 80s. I'm a fully retired small engine mechanic, and semi-retired pharmaceutical engineer, and wanted a project that would bring me back in to them good old years of leaning and turning! So after much disappointment on ebay only able to find 1 single complete vertical pull B&S engine for sale which is brand new in the box, and priced accordingly for a new original NOS engine. I ended up having to piece together a complete vertical pull 3-3.5hp briggs push mower engine! SMFH!!! Which I found insane, but I guess makes some sense after thinking about how many of these engines we would toss into the scrap piles over the years. Mainly never because they were actually broken too badly or worn-out completely, but because of the constant replacements and upgrading in the lawn and garden industry during these years. I remember when really starting out in the industry, It was just about being phased out, but I was still working on, grinding and lapping-in the good old reel mowers still. I have a restored B&S model 5S that I saved off a original Toro reel mower that still runs mint! So yeah back to the Vertical pulls! I guess almost all of them were scrapped over the decades as parts became increasingly more difficult to aquire and the new and improved models kept rolling out to replace the old ones? They say hindsight is 20/20! Damn if I would have only saved a few dozen of these engines and held onto them??? SMFH! But great job on this restoration project of your B&S vertical pull push mower engine! It looks fantastic. I'm also glad to know I'm not the only nutcase here that had a desire to restore one of these classic engines, which in my opinion were probably the most economically built, and yet reliability made engines across all the manufacturers at this point in history of lawn mower engines. Tecumseh 🥴🤢🤮 I honestly TRIED to Love them! But they sucked!!! And they were absolutely and always the most difficult engines to get started or keeping them in tune for any length of time! On top of all that, they were always the most unreliable and shook themselves and whatever they be attached to apart due to poor balancing work from the factory! Their electrical systems were something to be made into a Nightmare on Elm St movie! Then they were always changing Everything design wise and hardly anything could cross the model or code boundaries, unlike B&S which had many parts and pieces that you could easily switch from one model to another and if it wasn't exactly the same, it could easily be! Unlike Tecumseh, nothing was really ever interchangeable. The only thing I ever thought was a good thing with Tecumseh was their carburetors! I understand this is a controversial subject still to this day! But unless it was totally destroyed by water, or something corrosive, there wasn't a Tecumseh carb I failed to rebuild that didn't work out perfectly well and would idle and not surge. They're definitely tricky in the beginning, but after rebuilding probably over 500 of these carburetors or maybe more in my life!? With the proper knowledge of how they're designed and work and a really good carb cleaning tank that would agitate as it cleaned, I never really had any issues with these carbs! They were simple in comparison to many of the Briggs carbs of the day! But just something you're only capable of learning through extensive experience with such. God Bless and keep turning on them wrenches! Otherwise we'll become the rusty and seized parts! 😂❤😂❤
Well done
great video

Why deliberately use the wrong carb springs ?
Restoring. These. Small. Engines. Is. Expertise. Good. Job.
Hi, how did you manage to extract the flywheel?
Rush job
Great Video Thank you For Sharing 👍🏻
were you using a steel wire brush? picked up an 85 gpz400r and it needs a good amount of work
Easy engines to work with, but the older engines have better lubefunktion on the oilring of the piston and litle bad that valveadust funktion , when there its no adjust , must sanding off the end of the valve litle and check the valvegap
get yourself a coke can and a hose clamp for a ring compressor
What a job. Keep up the great work

If I'm not mistaken, it was 1986.
I noticed you left the most important part of this video out is the jets sizes you did not mention what size Jets did you use for this carburetor to have it running right with no problems
I love to work on briggs and stratton engines old and new ones they are so light and simple to work on them plastic carburetor is very smart idea
No ring compressor , not good using screwdrivers to install the piston , o well I guess you don’t have the tools , no problem, it worked
U should remove the exhaust nerf
Looks like you are blowing by some of the key elements in rebuilding the engine or are you doing them off camera I never saw you set the valves or set the spacing of the coil .
This how i got started with small lawn mower engine i used to cut grassy for my community 10 bux a lawns me my father found a cpl lawn mowers in the garbage bumped we got one going to my little business and after month later some of my money i saved up me and my dad went bought new parts and other stuff like blade and we started rebuilding one push mower i was able to cut more lawns in short amount of time i save enough money for the following summer for used riding lawn mower 😊
