If you don't want to go through the trouble of ranking your top few candidates, you can just put a "1" next to your favorite, and downgrade your vote to the FPIP system we use now. It's only more complex if you want it to be.

Due to vote-splitting, the one getting the most votes may not be the one most preferred by all voters. The one getting the second or third most number of votes may be the most preferred. Many, many elections have no candidate with 50%, and in those races we are just guessing. In many cases we may be guessing incorrectly and placing the wrong (less representative) candidate into office. This is an outright election failure when this happens. In other words, the present system is BROKEN! Thus, those wanting to fix it have proper motives for doing so. That isn't to say that RCV is a good system, but please do not assume that the RCV proponents' motivations are nefarious or misguided.
