    It's funny that you have those clamps on all of your coolant hoses. I have those spring clamps that rely only on the "pinch" rather than tightening them by hand. I put the billet adapter in and it leaks because the clamps aren't tight enough. What year is your GTI so I can get the other style clamps?

    • @RLT
      @RLT 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’m actually glad you said this because I was wondering if they were OEM or not. My car is a 2016, however it had been modified and then later unmodified by the previous owner which is where the worm clamps came from. They are most likely just parts store spec clamps and they seem to work just fine.

    • @derekjlight
      @derekjlight 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@RLT gotcha. I personally do not like the factory clamps because they can only get so tight. If you loosen them too much with a pair of pliers, they will not grip the hose as well as these.

    Thats a T30 torx bolt. Have a mystery leak on my ‘16 as well. Been losing max>min line on expansion tank about every week. Had seen something about a coolant leak near turbo when researching water pump leaks. Was looking back there and saw obvious signs of coolant leakage ontop of turbo exhaust manifold. Also some red crusty bits. Picked this part up and going to replace to see if that solves it. If so, cheap and easy fix! H20 pump was done 30k ago so I was suspicious that would already be leaking again.

    Really nice walk-through. My e-brake on my Golf had the problem with the button popping out and the brake would disengage. I replace the button a couple of times and used something to hold it in place. But something seems to have worn out to a point that the e-brake will not hold in place at all. Even with a brand new button it does not stay engaged. It's really not clear to me what part is failing. I think the cheap plastic button breaking may be a separate issue from something else wearing and causing it not to stay engaged. I would like to do this replacement but I just know I'll break a lot of things.

    • @RLT
      @RLT 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Surprisingly the plastics in the dash and center console are compliment enough that only one tab actually broke off. The part that’s giving way in the handbrake assembly is the little bit of black plastic that’s meant to retain the Ebrake button. It’s a very poor design imo and will probably break again in another 70,000 miles but for now it does solve the safety issue.

    A viewer mentioned to me that I forgot to show the exact Torque specs for the center bolt. Torque the Bearing center bolt to 180nm (132.76ft-lbs) then an additional 180 degrees. Hopefully this helps, sorry everyone.

    man, this is a lot of work for a broken tab. mine broke, so that button came out flying, along with the spring itself. dealer said something like 900 dollars to do what you just did in this video i didn't want to do it. so what i did was, i used eletrical tape, went around the broke tab, 1.5 round, then put some strong glue on the tape surface, inserted the spring, pushed the button back, and with the button depressed, taped the button to the handle, allowed the glue to dry, thirty minutes later, it worked just fine, i know it is ghetto, but it works, and saved me a thousand bucks lol

      “This is a lot of work for a broken tab” should be Volkswagens tag line lol! That method is super cool especially if it worked for you, hopefully it continues to work into the future.

      @@RLT This is also an issue on the Seat Leon Mk3 , which is basically a Mk7 golf under the skin. There is a guy on ebay now sells a simple kit to repair this without doing all that work. Basically a machined aluminium button, replacement spring and a grub nut that screws through a thread in the button to clamp onto that plastic tab - therefore not relying on the clip and not requiring glue. I have a slightly different problem in that the previous owner seems to have already done a similar repair using the plastic button, a nail and a bit of glue. So the plastic end has actually snapped where he put the nail in. I've now taken the button off and glued the plastic end back on. Then I intend to try applying the repair kit. But yes I agree it doesn't seem like a durable way to do a repair so thanks for this video I may need to return to it.

    The reason why you couldn’t get the endlink in was that the other side of the car was on the ground. The sway bar is attached to both sides. If both sides were lifted up you would be able to slide it right in without doing what you did.

      I realize this way after the fact which is annoying because I knew from a previous experience. I was just hot and ready to be done lol you know how it goes sometimes.

    Was there no dried up pink crust at the area of the leak? Most VW leaks I have dealt with had that at the trouble spot, even if no wet spot was observed.

    • @RLT
      @RLT 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You know I don’t know actually. I observed a puddle back there while I was pressure testing the cooling system looking for leaks. I sort of wonder if the extreme heat causes it to boil away completely. Another possibility might be that the coolant is allowed to slip down the back of the block meaning you will not see it unless you pull the engine. Also you know how these cars are there could be oil caked in there from who knows where. Maybe someone smarter than I could give an answer.

    THIS. Yup. I replaced my plastic coolant flange with an aluminum version last week & voila, coolant leaks seem to be resolved! I was simply lucky in that I planned this replacement away from plastic as it was located near a planned turbo swap to HPA's IS38.

      @@RLT I think I'm right about where I want to be now. I'm full bolt on save a downpipe, so my best guess is somewhere between 340-380 whp. I'm hesitant to run afoul of emissions here in Illinois which is the reason for the OEM downpipe. I've done a ton of mods both engine & handling and the car is truly a blast to drive. As an aside, consider an aluminum oil pan if you're not fond of VW's love of plastic. I have much better piece of mind with it on (& a skip plate). I have a ridiculous amount of fun driving a hatchback every day. I've got a SUV for when I want to drive like an adult.

      @jpchampine6992 I’ve done a metal oil pan on my car because I got hit by some debris and the plastic one started leaking. We took the plastic pan out to a friends range and destroyed it with a shotgun lol. As for the downpipe I feel your pain my area of PA is one of two in the state that does emissions testing.
