Simon Thomas - The Run Walk Strategy
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 12 ก.ค. 2022
With the aim to complete The Bob Graham Round (BGR) these are my video diaries of the runs, kit, successes and failures of the Journey starting in July 2022.
The BGR is a 66 mile ish circuit of some of the highest peaks of England's Lakeland fells ascending some 27000ft all of which is to be completed on foot in under 24hrs (to get in the Bob Graham Club).
First run in 1932 by Bob Graham he set out to do 42 peaks as he was at the time 42 years old and since then many have tried and many have failed.
Please subscribe and be inspired like me by the ones who have tried and in some cases failed.
These video accounts will I'm sure show me pushing further and harder than I think I may have ever done before all in the beautiful surroundings of my home The Lake District

The Bob Graham Round - An Introduction To The Running Round - Keswick The Lake District
How "far," did you run?
That run whilst filming was 4ish miles, bute of a day but fresh 🧊
I hope you are right! Gorgeous day to enjoy His creation!
The S has far better specs for a cheaper price so unless someone really values a larger screen over those other better specs I don't know why they'd now choose this model
Hi m8, exactly what I've been through, I as big into the big trail races, lakeland 50 100 etc, I to was training for my bob Graham, I started pulling up in big races with excruciating pain in my toes on both feet which got worse and worse as the miles went on, suffered this for two years, until I had x rays and ultra soubds, I got diagnosed osteoarthritis in my metatarsals on both feet, tried all kinds of insoles, nothing worked, done some research on things that aggrovate it, eating excess carbs and sugar causes all kinds of problems in our bodies with inflammation, then on a Joe rogan podcast it was mentioned that very low carb/keto diet can rid the body of inflammation, so in the October I went on a strict keto diet, at the Xmas I had lost 50lbs which I'd put on not running and feeling sorry for myself, I then added intermittent fasting into it, by the end of January, the walking on glass feeling had gone and I was running on the fells again 90%pain free, I did change my shoes after that to topo, to give me a wider toe box, the keto diet worked amazingly well
Thanks for your message 👍 I have tried a few things too over the last 9 months and interestingly I have heard and tried some of the same stuff. Intermittent fasting has certainly changed my body's reliance on sugars and I went so far that I actually had to remember to eat, I fasted for up to 36hrs to try Autophagy but unfortunately the xrays show significant bone growth in the toe knuckle so surgery unfortunately if my only option but I still still dabble in longer fasts, I just hope the opp helps and I can run again. Controlling the inflammation with less or no processed sugars is definitely a thing, and I am currently trying to irradicate my sweet tooth and keep inflammation at bay. Stay tuned for some body experiments, challenges and hopefully some tips on getting Bob fit 👍👍 Thank you for taking the time to message 🙏
Great effort. Different on the tops. Can have all weathers during 5 minutes. Best wishes with the training.
Thank you 👍
Thanks, its great to get out just not so great when it's a poor weather day 😁👍
Best of luck! It’s on my list as well! Hope it goes well and the weather is kind. 👍
Thank you, it will the best hardest thing I've ever done so can't wait 😁 It's just a big day out!!
Great videos, documenting exactly how it really feels. Just remember it’s just one foot in front of the other…as for nutrition, Try tailwind to keep you hydrated. Make sure you manage your electrolytes too especially if you sweat lots. Coke will maybe only give you a quick spike and could account for the crash you felt afterwards, I avoid it until afterwards when I really want something sweet and fizzy.
Thank you , great advice 👍 I'm currently nursing injuries, certainly not experimenting with my nutrition just at the moment .... but I will. Thank you 👍
Happy new year! We hope you have a brilliant 2023 we will be watching😊
Thank you This really is the year.... carrying the first real running injury currently so back on the bike more whilst the weather's pants, but hopefully as the days lengthen and the clouds lift the videos and the fell miles will return 👍
Unbelievable achievement. Hopefully Darren will give it another go once he forgets how much it hurt. 👍
Indeed, Maybe 😁
Great vlogging mate, I hope the training is going well. Happy to help out pacing/carrying if i can. Have you set a date yet?
Thanks for your message and comment too 👍 May 12th o 19th 2023 !? Hopefully a great weather window 🙏
Good effort, gut training is definitely a good idea I felt so ill trying to eat and run
Yep it's gonna be a food competition! And see what sticks 👍
BBQ beef hula hoops 😂😂
🤢
Good luck with your training. Best wishes. Definitely not a road marathon.
Thanks Yes quite a variety of terrain which was good but also an eye opener to how fatiguing off road is when your trying to keep moving quicker than a shuffle Watch this space.. more to come Thanks for commenting 👍
Interesting films, but this "music" makes them unwatchable - unsubscribing.
Well thanks for your honesty 👍 Have you an interest in running and or the Bob Graham?
That path in the Back o' Skiddaw over Hare Crag to the Skiddaw House track is massive compared to what it was ten years ago! I think it's slightly quicker, certainly runnable, to head back to the south summit of Great Calva, down the south ridge for maybe 100m then make a beeline for the summit of Mungrisdale Common. For Hall's Fell Ridge, start down the parachute descent (which is down the gill to the R of HFR looking down) then cut left to traverse back onto HFR below the rocky bit, does need a recce
Thanks for the info, it's all a learning curve so I'm grateful for the pointers 👍
Hi Simon, what dates next year have you pencilled in for your attempt?
Hi Carl 12th & 19th of May 2023 Still asking and talking to others about start times and the benefit over convenience of 6pm or 9pm start time but will muddle through and figure it out 😁
Don't get me wrong, I love running but this?.... I'm just not sure...
Ha ha I'm not sure either but that's the Challenge 👍 Thanks for your message Please share with any like minded folks 👍👍
Good luck with it. If you need pacers I'd be happy to help if I can
Thanks George 👍 Yes Yes Yes 🤣 If you could DM me on Instagram that would be awesome 👌 MY details are in the video descriptions Thank you
Good decision out there. I've put up a fell running comedy if you would care to check it out. Good luck to you.
Thanks, sometimes it's hard to pull the pin but not worth putting anyone at risk 😁
Good effort lads. No surrender 💪
Ha ha thanks 😊 Will have another go hopefully next week 👍
Thanks for commenting 👍
Crazy man
Indeed 👍
