oops! Don't worry I caught the flute.
I don't even play the oboe, but I found it very interesting
Come back for more entertaining videos soon!
Are using a stainless steel or aluminum pop rivet? Assuming aluminum due to actually getting somewhere by sanding.
I use aluminum
Thanks for the video! Even though I didn't use a rivet I found a way to get my the plastic rod that was stuck out 😊 Next time I will try and get my hands on a rivet ;)
any hardware store will have them
How do you transition from first layer to second?
You just keep wrapping and slot in between the threads on the first layer
@@InstrumentRepairSchool Thanks - this worked like a charm!
What else can I do?
If this dont work, its best to take it to a shop
I dropped my whole trumpet on the mouthpiece and none of this works
You can also try a little heat and ice, then this method.
@@InstrumentRepairSchool thanks
When you do that ngl it’s over Fr Fr there’s no mouth piece to over me carfull
“Don’t have a mallet? That’s ok! Use a mallet-“
They are clearly different 😂
100% this destroyed pads🎉Not need 🎉
Yes
i managed to do it using the handle of a screwdriver
Sometimes you have to use whats on hand
As a horn player, offbeats. Also really easy to set down on the wrong surface, small dent are really easy to get but the lots of large dents on the bottom of the horn has to either be dropping or something on your pockets while playing over and over again. But guarantee some of it is “offbeat anger”
These students just have anger management issues IMO
I really thought there was going to be a dead rat in there
I've had a bat in a tuba, don't think YT would like me to show that. 😂
Idk it just got stuck😂
So you have never....😂
@@InstrumentRepairSchoolnever what
Thank you I really needed this
Glad this worked for you
I don’t have this I need to do it by hand
Be gentle and no twisting. nothing good ever comes from twistinge
Took me five hours to find it😂😂
hey, but at least you found it
@@InstrumentRepairSchool that’s a good points
Wish I could had you before I brought my trumpet to Amro to get fixed for 300 dollars
But they did a good job and made it like new right?
Yea it was better than I've ever seen it
Thank you so much this helped a lot
Glad you found this useful
Which companies sell the punches? I’ve only seen people who’ve made their own for each horn they were working on. Ferree’s? Allied?
You can buy them from the manufacturers, send their parts dept an email
V Good
I used to have a sax like the one in the video, the keys were loud, and i wasn't able to play lower than low C. I have a Selmer 42-UL unlaquered brass alto and it is so much better
As you set the saxophone down wrong💀
Thank you buddy sax saver pad saver.
my sister has one of these, and she always keeps it in her saxophone. She does not take good care of her instrument but personally me I own a saxophone I take really good care of it. ┈┈┈┈┈┈▕▔╲ ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈▏▕ ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈▏▕▂▂▂ ▂▂▂▂▂▂╱┈▕▂▂▂▏ ▉▉▉▉▉┈┈┈▕▂▂▂▏ ▉▉▉▉▉┈┈┈▕▂▂▂▏ ▔▔▔▔▔▔╲▂▕▂▂▂I
I played the saxophone during my junior and senior years in a marching band and never used the device, and my saxophone never needed my pads replaced.
Testify, best to not use than use incorrectly. It's a good product when allowed to dry outside the case.
You can leave it inside the sax, as long as you have used the cleaning swab after playing, it serves to absorb the little moisture that may have remained on the pads after using the cleaning swab...
It still needs to come out to dry out. I'll show videos of the daily destruction I see from improper use.
You CANNOT leave it in the instrument Or in the case set aside from the sax for that matter. It will mold and destroy your saxophone. And every time you put it in or take it out, it will fling mold spores everywhere making your instrument very unsafe to play
Actually my girl polishes my flute every night
Why string and not cork?
The wood needs the structure of the string for support to prevent cracking. Plastic bassoons can have cork.
Sorry I know this isn’t what the video is about - any tips for buying a cheap trumpet? I had a Bach Bb one when I grew up and went through band but it was stolen. I don’t want to pay some 600-900 for a trumpet. Are there any decent alternatives? Particularly around the 150$ range?
Check all the market places. FB groups near you should have tons of them for a good price right after school ends. Quitters like to dump them for cheap. Prices go up in August due to demand for the new school year. Good luck
Funny to come across this today, yesterday I tried an old mouthpiece with a dent on the end of the backbore, and found it played brilliantly if the dent was at the bottom rather than the top of the receiver. Never thought to try all sides, nor to try the same on a non-dented mouthpiece.
Fluid dynamics of the instruments are often overlooked by players. It's one of the most important factors in a quality repair
Wear glove for the love of god Holy shit thats nasty
Helps build my immune system. 😂
This could work if both your mouthpiece backbore and receiver are off centre - you might find a sweet spot where they both match up. However I honestly don't see how it could work if either one is perfectly centred, and the other is off centre - all positions would be equally bad?
It is possible for the gap in the leadpipe and receiver to be bad and all clocking positions sound terrible. No handmade horn is perfect. But dialing in the MP will make a difference.
@@InstrumentRepairSchool OK, thanks for the reply! Will give it a try 😊
LOL - Wedge mouthpieces - they are marked on the rim at the 12.00 and 06.00 position, so the mouthpiece is always inserted with the same orientation.
That's a good start, but every mouthpiece is different for every horn. 12 and 6 are subjective in relation to the mouthpiece.
Thank you, sir. This was very informative and very straight-to-the-point. Thumb's up!!!😊

THE CHICKEN OML SO CUTE 😭 WHATS ITS NAME 😭
I only noticed the chicken on your shoulder at the end of the video
I thought that chicken was a parrot, does this also work for a trombone mute?
What kind of flux you use?
I know nothing about clarinets but this was a really cool video. Would love to see a full-length video
A mouthpiece, that inconsistent is just awfully manufactured. If you have to buff so hard, that the thickness around the shank becomes uneven, you‘re ether a bad buffer or the drilling process is much to rough. For me as a Brass Instrument Maker, that just sounds like another paranoia of unsecure players.
I agree that the name brand manufacturers have quality issues, that is why clocking makes a huge difference. If you play on a custom mp and custom handmade horn from a small shop then it likley won't make a difference. I've tested this on hundreds of major name brand instruments with my clients and it makes a difference.
Thank you!
Holy crap that inside of the tubing was more green than the grass outside of our apartments
should I collect it and sell as fertilizer? 😂😂😂
@@InstrumentRepairSchool lmao yea
Will try it later during my practice before church, I suspect there may be truth to it!
I’ve been playing trumpet since 1978 and this is the first I’ve ever heard of “clocking” the mouthpiece in the receiver.
Give it a try and let me know your results. I bet we just unlocked a new level for you. 😉
Its do not make sense.!😂but thanks for the video 👍
All so true, excellent explanation on how to find the sweet spot with tone/pitch. I've discovered the same thing when switching between the 180-degrees then fine tuning small increments from there...
Absolutely, 12,3,6,9 are good starting points. Minor adjustments can have great results once you can really feel the difference.
