The Fodder Shed: Solving Drought in Australia.
มุมมอง 3.5K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Mike McCosker from Wallangra NSW demonstrates what a fodder shed looks like and how it works while it produces 3tonnes of feed for his cattle during one of Australia's worst droughts on record. Fodder is one of the most nutritious sources of livestock feed on the planet. It is classed as grass fed and the animals love it. Drought proofing your farm whilst saving a fortune on feed costs, makes h...

Mike Mccokser discusses National Regenerative Agriculture.
มุมมอง 1896 ปีที่แล้ว
All great civilisations have failed when their agricultural systems have failed. Until now this has not been a global failure. At the core of agricultural health is soil carbon, stabilised in the soil by an unseen workforce of soil biota. This unseen workforce remains forgotten until systems breakdown and food becomes scarce. Creating vibrant communities that understand the link between soil bi...

How long does it take the barley to grow in the fodder shed? Of all of the Aussie videos I've watched, nowhere are there any wells. Is there not any water under ground ?

6 days. These systems don't use a whole lot of water, even less if you recirculate, although you would run into clogging and mineral deficiency issues.

Adding soil carbon is mitigation, drawdown of CO₂. The added water holding capacity is not mitigation of CC as stated, that's the adaptation part, equally as important because the CC genie is already out of the bottle and even if all humans left Earth tomorrow by 12 noon, global average temperature would rise from the current 1.0-1.1 ºC above 1850-1900 average, to ~1.7 ºC (range of +1.5 - +2.1 ºC). If we're talking regenerative farming to drawdown CO₂ and that involves ruminate livestock, i.e. cattle, sheep, goats, camels, then that has consequences in terms of methane emissions. Methane is 105x as potent as CO₂ over 20 years when including it's role as a precursor to tropospheric ozone (IPCC AR5 Ch8 Shindell et al).
