When my uncle sold his last 89' Cummins Dodge he told me it had over 500k miles based on fuel receipts because the odometer quit working long ago. I said "that was quite a truck" to which he replied "no it was quite an engine." He went through two transmissions and three rear ends.

I worked in a Dodge dealership in 1978 when the Mitsubishi diesel came out. It was a total mis- match and the installation was very crudely done like an after thought. The automatic would hardly accelerate. We only sold two as i recall. The engine was more suited to a tractor.

Awesome video. To this day, I think the T300 trucks are the best looking trucks ever made. I had a '01 3500 dually club cab with the 24v and automatic. I loved that truck, and still miss it.

Finally, thank you for accurately, laying out how everything came to be as far as Cummins and Chrysler are concerned! Unfortunately, the generation after ours got inundated with so many incorrect ““ Facts! I will be starting on my 93 W-2 55 speed survivor soon definitely will be reaching out! Excellent video!

You've done a wonderful job presenting this truth of the Dodge/Stellantis/Ram trucks! Funny thing I've worked a 1989 Dodge W2500 which my dad owned. I replaced the rear main seal, the starter and the water pump on that beast at 235,000 miles and only had 1 other thing to repair, the Gear Vendors output shaft seal!!! That truck lasted for over 425,000 miles before being traded in on a new truck last year a 2021 Ram 2500 with an auto trans...❤

The first gen wasn't that dated compared to the others at that time. Chevy made the same model from 1972 to 1991 and Ford made theirs from 1979 to 1997.

I owned 2 1st gen W350s... Manual Trans,The best setup i made was a Gear Vendors Overdrive and an Exhaust Brake (Up graded Exhaust Springs) 410 Axle Ratio. I was able to squeeze 32mpg across Nebraska panhandle but in daily use in the NE with a trailer avg 5k load daily i would consistently get 28mpg. With 410s 1st and 2nd were not used when empty. The GearVendor Unit although expensive is a beast and bolted to the tailshaft of tranny. Btw never has an issue w the G360 aside from a stuck detent balll in the top loader which was a simple fix.

This explains why people keep bringing these pickups to truck shops instead of going to the implement dealers that usually service stuff that small. Many of us won’t service stuff smaller than the 8.3L now known as ISC/ISL.

This video was a well explained, and informational presentation!!my first Dodge/Cummins was a 1991 1/2, so it came with the Intercooler and the overdrive on the back of the Transmission. It was a great truck, and I could get 25 MPG on the highway! My next Dodge/Cummins was a 1994 with all the available accessories, and I sold the truck after 10 years and then purchased a 2010, again with all the accessories! I became a member of the TDR Group the Robert Patton started in 1993, and never looked back, as that TDR GROUP was the best in everything, and is still going strong! Having been a member of the TDR GROUP, I learned may things that this video pointed out!

Absolutely fascinating! Only one thing; you say Chrizler, we in the Warren/ Detroit area say Chrisler. Just sayin'. Having worked as a prototype/concept fabby for my professional life, you must be an engineer. I've worked on projects intimately and don't know that much about them. Good on you!

My first diesel was a 04 Duramax. It was fun and fast until it came time to replace the injectors. I was then fortunate to be able to own 2015 Cummins and then a 2018 SO Cummins (my favorite truck) . I now have my first 5.7 Hemi and it's a blast to drive. If I could go back to my 2018, I'd be tickled pink, except for the diesel prices now 😮

Thank you for very detailed story on DODGE - Ram Pick Up Trucks & CUMMINS Engines . I prefer just DODGE . My father had a 2 wheel drive DODGE UTE - 1940's model , he drove up onto our cattle properties on HAYSTACK Mountain - New South Wales- Australia , so I like DODGE . DAD also bought an Ex WW 11 DODGE Truck to cart our horses up onto the Mountain & bring Cows In calf down to our Bottle Creek property. I was with my father - 1960's . I drove a Versatile 875 with a CUMMINS Engine in ALBERTA, I loved the Versatile & The boss put me in charge of changing the Oil in the CUMMINS, which I did every 3 /4 weeks - serviced The Versatile . I love CUMMINS Engines , it was always a great Combination DODGE & CUMMINS so thanks again for your wonderful story & information . Very well presented . ROBBIE - AUSTRALIA 🐎

First gen Dodge/Cummins biggest problem was with the frame. Strictly highway use they were fine but any daily heavy offroad or rough unimproved roads with the weight of the Cummins tended to overstress the open C shaped style frame rail to the point of developing cracks. The second gen solved this with a redesigned chassis that had boxed frame rails that were a lot more capable of dealing with engine weight stress.

Great video. I grew up in a rural Wisconsin and with my Dad having a tractor business. Massey Ferguson tractors used mostly Perkins diesel engines. IN the 60's, we were also a Cummins Engine dealer. I have rebuilt many dozens of both brands of these engines, having learned mechanics as a youth, growing up in the industry. Many years later we took on the Kubota tractor line and in the following 5+ years pretty much never had to do significant repairs to any Kubota engine. In the last few years I have seen that Cummins developed a diesel series of engine that could be transplanted into the ever popular Jeep Wrangler series as a replacement for factory gas engines. I do not know what has become of that potential offering.

I DAD had a 93 Clubcab LE dually pulling a 34ft. Featherlite wedge single Axle dual wheel 2 car trailer from 95-2010, both painted black. I put 1.2 million miles on that truck. 2 transmissions, 3 clutches, 1 rear end. I miss that truck and have been trying to find/buy it back since 2010 when my father died from a sudden heart attack driving his jeep home from work.. Truck was last known to be in Wynne. Arkansas.

Here in Australia Dodge sold the 4TN in the 60’s & later the D5N in the 70’s using a cab based on the International A-Line. They varied in size from the 200 to 700. Early ones came with the choice of the Slant 6, the 318 Poly, the Perkins Diesel & the 2 stroke Commer Diesel (mainly for the NZ market) . Later ones had the 245 Hemi, the 318 Wedge, the Cummins Diesel & the 2 stroke Detroit Diesel. These were great trucks, with plenty of options. Go do a search, these were full bonneted with a full width cab.
