It was the genius of Knotts, combined with the greatest child actor ever in Ron Howard, that elevated this show to iconic status. A brilliant cast of characters, from Otis the town drunk, Aunt Bea and the lovable barber, Floyd Lawson.

A police officer's badge is NOT a gang symbol. I think you need to look up the legal definition of "gang." Barney was enforcing a rule that the overwhelming majority of society feels should exist. And rules exist for order. Without rules, there is chaos.
