Battle of the Rye's: Episode 24 Last One
In 2018 Barton 1792 had a warehouse collapse. That might be what you're referring to.
That’s right! I knew it was something. And I just assumed fire since that’s what normally happens. You don’t hear about them collapsing often or ever. Thank you for the correction.
You had mentioned one of their bottles had twine wrapped around the neck. One of their discontinued bottles, 1792 Ridgemont Reserve, had off-white twine. That's been out of production for a number of years now. I've never seen it on a shelf, only pictures. You must have been in the hobby a while to see that around. How long you been in the hobby? I think the only other 1792 that you're missing from the core lineup is the Single Barrel. That one has an off-white paper neck wrapper and comes in both non-store pick as well as store pick, at 98.6 proof. (I've had the non-store pick Single Barrel and it drank hot. I do have two of the store pick Single Barrels but haven't opened them yet.)
Hey thank you. I do not think I’ve seen them in the wild. Only in pictures as well. I think I purchased my first bottle of Blanton’s and Rockhill Farms when they were collecting dust around 2015/2016 I believe. And then started to get out of control around 2020. How about you. How long have you been into this?
I’ve only had bottled in bond and I enjoy it very much. Never seen any of the others in the wild where I’ve looked. But I’ve really only hunted in Columbus.
Advent calendar’s are fun. But I usually drink a few nights a week. The whiskey community is fantastic and generous. If you can’t find a local group to engage with I recommend whiskey tube channel that do livestreams. Baker Drinks on Saturday night is one I go to. Small channel that welcomes nice people. Merry Christmas
Hey there, for the most part they are great. I always enjoy talking with others in stores or in lines. I will have to check that channel out. Thank you. hope you had a great holiday.
grabbing the store pick blantons is a good move
Its hard to say no to them, especially at msrp!
I did score Sazerac 18 year from Ohio lottery this year!
That’s awesome congratulations!! Have you had a chance to open it? I’m curious how it is.
@ I have not been sick and waiting for a nice family get together to crack it open during the holiday.
@@michaelwellstead13 Get better and let us know your thought when you get a chance to open it.
Good to know
How have your hunt been going this season?
I only got one so far lol
Hell naw to the naw naw naw
I'm enjoying this channel, your duo is great. But either her mic is too low or his is too loud. Been noticing this in multiple videos now. It's like a constant battle of volume like a tv show vs advertising.
Hey thank you. We will take a look into this.
I've bought more 1792 sourced and regular than anything this past year. It's been everywhere and often marked down.
That’s what we’re finding as well.
😂 best start to video ever!
She said it and I had a rough time starting the video
Let us know what you’ve purchased in November?
Been enjoying the video. Binge watching actually. Keep up the good videos. Have you thought about doing in store vlogs in the future?
Hey thank you for watching. When you say store vlogs what are you thinking?
@ I’ve been into the bourbon hunting video. I like seeing prices in different regions of the country.
I would definitely pick up the special addition Buffalo Trace bottle that you have there...45/47! If I ever see one.
It’s a fun bottle to just have on display. What area are you located in? I got that from a store in Henderson KY.
Great haul
Thank you. Still on the hunt for a Coy Hill.
I can't believe how many good bottles i got in November and the first few days of December here in michigan, best Haul in years for me and we have a few more weeks till Christmas 🎄 👍🎅😉
Hey that’s awesome congratulations. What were some of the bottles you got your hands on? We are still hopping for some bangers in December.
8 KEY things you MUST do after uploading a TH-cam video
fun line up with huge pours, Merica
I’ve been interested for some time on the difference of them. And oh yeah they were heavy pours. Felt them after 😳
Comparing RR13 would be great. Also the smaller bottle comment was just like my opinion man 😂😂. Would definitely want that RR15 in big boy bottle.
I have to have all the bottles in 750s or bigger. Even though the 375 wouldn’t take up as much space. But there would be less to share.
I like hazmat whiskey in small doses. I just got a Lost Lantern Corbin Cash Bourbon coming in at 144.2 prf. Looking forward to exploring it tonight
That sounds awesome. Who makes the LL? How was it?
They are very good
So good!!
I’m not a cocktail guy and I would be terrible trying to float. But only 1/2 ounce of whiskey seems kind of pointless. Appreciate the effort
I agree. That’s why I wanted to put more in.
@@RJR2222 double it then. That was a small one. They are so good I make them big
I really liked all the batches from last year but have passed on all this years releases because I just don’t go back to them
They are good. But understand that
Oh I know that conversation all too well.
Funny thing is she sent me a new whiskey today that we need to buy. 🙄
Hey John, if Kaija is upset, I've got shelves at my house...im here to help bud! 😂
I’ll let you know if I need to rent some space.
My rye of the year has to be Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye. JD barrel proof offerings are hard to beat, and their rye (IMO) is actually better than their Tennessee whiskey.
Hey we would have to agree with you on this. We love the JD Barrel Proof Rye. We have a few back ups of that one. Shhhh Don't tell Kaija! I am searching for a hazmat bottle of the rye. I know they're out there and I've came close at like 138 proof. If you ever get a chance to try there twice barreled rye, its pretty good too.
At some point i will try some blantons. I would like to know how close it is to other bourbons. That way i may be able to find something similar. I refuse to pay way too much over msrp for any bourbon.
Depending on the barrel, it can be a little surprising how lackluster the regular blantons can be. My specific one tastes very soapy, reminds me of blue dawn
I wouldn’t over pay for Blantons either. I’ll keep looking to see what would be close. Have r you had John J Bowman ?
@@SouthSideSippers I live in a state that decides what i have access to. john j is not one of those. at some point down the road i want to do some bourbon hauls in different state but dont have the time now.
@@SouthSideSippers i just went to the liquor store and for the first time they had a case of blantons. i picked one up. 75 dollars. im liking the change happening in the store.
I would agree with you. I think I’ve had a bottle that wasn’t great. But have had it here’s that were good. Never mind blowing though.
It makes sense that SFTB has a better coating than the others due to proof. The others get watered /proofed down.
The gold is really good.
I would have if I were near there for sure. Would be a 9 hour drive one way for me now
Yeah I don’t think we would if it was longer than 2 hours.
You may have to sacrifice a bottle or two for the audio budget.
Sorry you feel this way. We will work on this.
Rural Inn is still open? 😅
@@ericgardner5548 yes that place is great. Their barrel picks are great!!
No way
But have you tried it? It was really tasty.
That's a deal. I'd drive
Any tips on how to ease into bourbon culture and being able to enjoy it straight?
Hey great question. We would start with a lower proof bourbon. Maybe on some ice. Kaija likes to add a cherry, the good ones. And sometimes cherry juice form them. A good start would be Buffalo Trace, Larceny, Old Barton, Heaven Hill Quality House. To name a few.
It can be too much depending. Have you tried the Elijah Craig bottling?
Oh my I can not believe we left that out of this line up. We have and really enjoy it.
Kluke toasted is my favorite
We have not tried that. We have a KLuke. I need to go back to it and try it.
I have not tried many of those however I do have the Basil Hayden Toast. I really like it but being 80 proof I wouldn't drink along with other higher proof stuff. Toast is interesting as they use rice in the mashbill. Only bourbon I wish would have been in the line up is Old Forester 1910. I'm pretty sure that's toasted and very good.
The Basil was a very easy drink. We may plow through that one
I have only had a sample but RR 15 is one of the best whiskies I have ever tasted
The sample I had at the distillery was so good. I might have to agree with you.
I've had the workhorse and it was good have to get these off of steelbach they don't come to my area.
Hey there I’ve not had the workhorse which one is that?
I really like Luck 7. I have never gotten any type of smoke. Appreciate the blind
Hey there it’s crazy the difference when you Blind stuff.
absolutly worth it!
It’s so good!
When I look at this lineup I have tried all but the Tumbling Dice. For me Handy, NR, Pursuit, and AE. AE comes across so sweet. On a different note. What other Whiskey Tube channels do you guys recommend. Thanks
Hey thank you for the comment. I like watching SLB, Brewzel, and it’s Bourbon Night.
@ I’m a patreon member of SLB. But all good channels. If you aren’t busy on Saturday night I recommend Baker Drinks. 9pm est. small channel that has great interactive live streams. Thanks for responding
Jon said only "125" proof hahaha.
Is that hot🤪
Cost is a hanging point on these I bought 3 of the 7 year but I may not get another. I'd rather have a heaven hill bib for 48. The 13 isn't a bottle I'd get.
I don’t think I would buy another 7. The 13 is great but wouldn’t buy it again. I am curious about the high rye.
I don’t make cocktails but I have to say like the casual atmosphere about the way you make them
The way I look at it it’s not a science experiment 🤪
Absolutely buy discount whiskey. Don’t know much about Ky Owl except perception is they are over priced
They are pricy but we you can find a deal. Might be your jam.
Don’t get me wrong old ritz is good especially for hangovers in the morning, however hear me out Jamison orange combined with a nice cider ain’t bad either and you’ll save $368 dollars. Just saying
I will have to try that. I’ve got a bottle of the Jameson Orange. Thanks for the suggestion.
Since you did it blind it has to move on. But AE usually is too sweet for me. I would usually gravitate toward Sagamore DO. But unless you blind them hard to say
Both are very good. I want to try more of the Sagamore.
Appreciate the recipe. I am not a big mixed drink person. And I don’t have a buying liquor problem. It works every time. Cheers
I feel the same way
Appreciate the blind. I have never tried an OF decanter offering but it would be interesting to see how they fare against good Bibs.
Hey that’s a great idea. Do you have any suggestions on some BIBs? We can see if we can put something together.
@@SouthSideSippers my favorites are Ben Holiday, New Riff, 1792, but any that you like will work
Working on this line up now. stay tune
