Thank you for an engaging video! Nice job! If there is any questions about Dehancer, we are free to answer them.
Thanks for this! I thought I was gonna have to learn DaVinci to use Dehancer.
Not a problem! I think it works great with premiere pro very easy to use
what wire is that you use with the ssd? I use a bmpcc and I cannot find a wire that will write fast and well with the camera!
oh wait! you have it linked! Thanks!
Ha, good luck 🤞🏻 anything else let me know!
Man your content is great! keep going!
Ahh thank you so much, honestly!
You look like christopher nolan. Thanks for the tutorial!
Hahah, thank you 🙏🏻 just wish I could direct films like him as well
This video was amazing Jared!! Extremely informative and thr funny moments of you and your crew on set were chefs kiss. Keep up the great work!
Haha, thank you so much!
Great video man! I have three vices when it comes to filmakimg that really get in the way of making mu films. 1. Producing and how to acquire funding. 2. Finding/securing locations 3. Reliable audio that isnt tocket science. Would love videos on these topics if you ever get the chance to!
Hi there, yes these things are defiantly challenging and in my experience patience is key. Take your time building these factors up. 1. I fund all my projects myself with my own money, this took me 4 years to save up, so again, patience is key. Or keep the budget low and start a crowdfunding campaign. 2. Scout, scout and scout, it's really hard, yes, but that's all it is. You'll need to allow yourself to be vulnerable and go outside your comfort zone. Go into places and ask nicely what you're trying to achieve. 3. Audio is so important but there isn't a shortcut when it comes to it. You will need to buy a decent mic and learn how to use it appropriately OR make connections and find someone who understands audio better than you (this is what I do) Hope this answers your questions and great topics for me to cover, I will look into doing it when I can, thank you!
@@jarodparkerdirector Thank you!
Let me know if that helps and if you have any other questions? Best of luck! :)
Love this !!! More great work from this channel
Thank you so much 🙏🏻
This content is amazing! We need more stuff like this, you give so much valuable information I’m gonna be following to a T. I’m definitely gonna be revisiting this while in production. Keep up the great work 🙏
This is too kind, thank you!
I know shooting at super 35 will desqueez the image to 1.8. But I am curious. What if you do shoot at 2X desqueeze? Is it usable? Can you figure out the composition? Because the reason I ask is because you can shoot at 2x. Bring the footage into Resolve. Go into Fusion. Add a Resize node. Click change pixel aspect. And you can jump the aspect ration of 2x down to 1.8
Hey, yes you can film 6:5 and set up monitoring for 2x and yes it is useable if you find the right 1.8x desqueeze in the edit. If you just used the 2x desqueeze and not readjust the desqueeze in the edit then not really, especially with the 50mm that has issues with the squeeze difference even at 1.8x. Me personally when I'm on the shoot filming I want to see the final 1.8x desqueeze in the monitor and in camera not a 2x desqueeze so I know exactly what my shot will look like. But that's just me personally. And I want the option for 50fps and not don't want to change resolution during production. I personally don't use DaVinci Resolve but if that is a feature then I will 100% check that out, thank you for letting me know :)
Do you think more work goes into the pre-production or the filming production?? Let me know!
Hi
Hi
@@jarodparkerdirector I’m enoyed this
@tomcrawford6996 thanks??
Yess i love film cameras, got one that was used by my parents but film is too costy for me 😕
Film is very expensive yes 😆 and even more expensive to develop. Do you have a film camera??
Yo nice video, although I see not many people are interacting with your content I believe you will get there soon, keep pushing onwards and good luck 🙏
Ahh thank you very much!!
Bizarre and frustrating video that completely ignores open gate - what a waste...
Why talk about open gate when the BM literally has an anamorphic filming mode?? Why use open gate on these lenses when they clearly aren't made for it??
@@jarodparkerdirector Seriously? That's of course how you record the full native resolution of the sensor, instead of the compromise of the mode you chose. You're confusing recording format with preview which is a mere viewfinder convenience.
Is recording full frame really recording the entire sensor? I didn't know that thanks! Huhh? What an obvious statement. Why record full frame? 25fps max, crop the large vignette on these lenses, crop most the image because anamorphic , need a monitor large enough to desqueeze 1.8x full frame footage on location instead of having it straight from the camera? Did you actually watch the video? Everyone else in the comments seemed to understand so shall I say it again slower for you?? We in the industry should support each other and not put each other down with comments like yours. Next time just ask me about open gate and I'll help you out the best I can :) be better!
@@jarodparkerdirector Your responses are triggered and emotionally delicate, but this is a simple technical matter. Without putting enough thought into this, you just stabbed at the 6:5 button because it bears the word anamorphic. But you are telling the camera to ignore 1210 further horizontal pixels by avoiding Open Gate. Some but not all of those pixels may be obscured by a given lens' vignetting. Have you bothered consulting the manual? It explains that you can't get a 1.8x preview anyway at 6:5 Anamorphic or Open Gate 6K 3:2. But you can still compose your shots whether previewing at 1.6x or 2x, since you'll desqueeze in post (the only proper way for preserving quality). These are elementary conclusions whereas you are insisting on perpetuating misinformation. And you are doubling down on your confusion between the full-frame sensor versus the sensor's aspect ratio: the BMCC6K's open gate is an applicable technical feature at both 3:2 and 6:5 modes, standing nearly alone in the market as Sony and Canon fail to offer it (whereas Panasonic and ARRI and Kinefinity and R3D do to a more limited extent).
You've proven a point I never made! I never said filming 6:5 anamorphic is better quality and higher resolution than if you film open gate. To say I'm spreading misinformation is crazy, please tell me specifically what I've said that's not true? My point is simply, why shoot anamorphics on full frame when you have an easier filming format to use?? I just don't think full frame is appropriate for these low budget lenses, for higher end anamorphic, sure! Ignoring 1210 is really not a massive issue especially when you crop anyway. I'd rather have a 1.8x squeeze in camera (my opinion please don't get angry) and the 50fps. If you've seen the vignette yourself you would know how bad it can be on these lenses. My point and the whole point of the video was too explain my opinions and thoughts on the process, I literally say this at the start of the video, going through anamorphic modes specifically not open gate. When filming open gate and framing with 2x I didn't like desqueezing in post, I just didn't like it, this is just a personal preference. I can tell you don't actually shoot anything because you would know what I'm talking about, especially when monitoring, I simply want my footage to be ready straight out of camera. That's just my opinion (once again please don't get angry) Open gate looks amazing but can sometimes be overkill for clients and working with others, I'd rather shoot anamorphic mode, keep 50fps, have the squeeze straight out of camera and monitor the shots properly. This channel is a community meant to help each other not a platform to criticise how others shoot differently. All you've done here is regurgitate numbers and facts (that most people already know) and think your way is the only way. This is all my opinion and my preferred way of shooting and I do value healthy discussion so I'm excited to say what you have to say :)
Thank you for the video. I think it's the Jupitor Suri lens that go with the Blackmagic camera. Does the Saturn as well?
Thank you! Yes, both Jupiter and Saturns work depending on BMPCC 6K Pro EF mount and BMCC 6K L mount make sure to get the right mounts
@@jarodparkerdirector Thank you!
What do you set your timeline setting to when shooting 6:5? Great video BTW👍🏼
Thank you! Depends what aspect you’re looking for Resolution is 4832x2240 after desqueeze. 2.16:1 aspect ratio. (Filmed in 4838 x 4032)
Thanks for the video, dude. It answered a number of questions I had. Liked and subscribed.
Thank you very much appreciate it!
i own the same camera, same adapter, and almost the same lens set (except 85mm). And it is absolutely my favorite lens. But i prefer to shoot in Open Gate mode for sure. As many other users. And i have to say that, there is huge issue hides over there. Shooting in Open Gate with 35mm Lens has big Vignette.. And cropping makes footage almost the same as 6:5 mode..:( So that makes Open Gate mode useless for 35mm lens. Disappoints a bit. With 50mm there is also vignette, but not so huge. And it is enough just to add 10-15% zoom in post to avoid this. But anyway, i love them. Will shoot in 6:5
Thank you 🙏🏻 I’ve been shooting 4:3 and using the 1.8x squeeze in camera and I have to say I much prefer it. I can see the image a lot clearer when shooting and no need to desqueeze in post
Hey jarod. Can you please elaborate on what you said about the sigma and the sensor dying out? You mean using the sigma in a aps c right? Im getting kind of outfocus image with my sigma and bmpcc6k pro but bm is s35.
So the Sigma 18-35mm was meant to be on a APS-C sensor and when I did my research it seemed people thought the APS-C sensor was dying out in favour of S35 and Full Frame So why get this lens if you want something future proof with APS-C sensors dying?? However, I think it works absolutely fine with my BMPCC6K Pro which has an S35 sensor
Awesome to have been a small part of your projects…
Thank you 🙏🏻
Oh man I should have went to a store. . First dsl camera for me and the sigma doesn’t latch on to my bmpcc 😅
What BMPCC do you have, 4K, 6K Pro? And what sigma lens mount did you get?
@@jarodparkerdirector i got the 6k pro and a sigma 18-35 f1.8 DC.
@@jarodparkerdirectori guess I should have picked the canon one
@LukeniV 6K pro is EF mount so did you get the lens in an EF mount?
@@jarodparkerdirector ah that was my mistake smh
Great review man, currently looking at the Great Joy. 1 thing I wanted to point out though - Sirui doesn't have any anamorphic lenses that are compatible with blackmagic, as it's an EF mount camera and there's no such thing as a L/RF/E etc. to EF converter. Mirror-less lenses don't work with DSLR mounts because of the flange distance difference. Best bet outside the Great Joy would probably be Laowa, those are what I'm debating on right now.
Thank you very much! There is Sirui anamorphic L mount lenses for this BMCC 6K, I'm not talking about the EF Pocket 6K Pro. Remember this is an L mount camera! cvp.com/product/sirui-780444-35mm-anamorphic-1-33x And there are L to EF converters, "Sigma MC-21 EF-L Mount Adapter" cvp.com/product/sigma-mc-21-ef-l-mount-adapter And the GreatJoys come with EF mounts if you want to change them around (which I did for versatility with my other EF mounts)
@@jarodparkerdirector Apologies my friend, had no idea they updated and they moved to an L-mount from EF. Very great to hear! I have the BMPCC6K Pro and it looks 1:1 to this new BMCC6K at a glance. As for the EF to L mount, it wouldn't solve my problem unfortunately, as it coverts an L mount camera to support EF lenses, but not the other way around. Unfortunately there is no solution and I doubt there ever will be at this point.
They do look exactly the same so don't worry I get you 100% I still use these lenses on the BMPCC6K Pro and they work fine you just need too crop in a little to remove the long stretch. Greatjoy have an EF adapter, you remove the L mount and put in an EF replacement. This guy has done a great review on the BMPCC6K Pro specifically: th-cam.com/video/m3frma5qGmc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=epbc5_UZZZOJx_cP
I love it! My favourite lens together with the Sigma 50-100 f/1.8
Thank you! And yes, are you talking about the 50 - 100mm cinema prime??
Great news Jarid.
Sorry Jarod* darn autocorrect.
Who are you??
Congradulations for the video! It's so nice to share experiences with our favourite camera. I would like to ask you a question that it is not about the lenses but maybe would be a good idea for future video. I see you use the Smallrig cage. I guess this cage is dedicated for BMPCC 6K pro because the company haven't still released a new one for the FF version. How does it fit? Are there any problems? Thank you in advanced and sorry if I am out of the topic. Keep up the good work!
Thank you 🙏🏻 and yes I agree it’s so annoying SmallRig haven’t released a cage for the BMCC6K specifically but it does fit nearly the same. Only issue I have is mounting a handle on the top because you need to use a different screw that sticks out. Hope that helps!
@@jarodparkerdirector thank you for your reply. I am thinking of buying one but I was afraid of "hurting" the camera! Also this cage has the ssd place that it is really useful!
@ektorschimatariotis6345 I was the same but don’t worry it won’t “hurt” the camera. I don’t really use the SSD slot much I feel like it’s crushing the SSD and it’s hard to access when on a tripod so I use a SmallRig clamp on top of the cage
Here before you grow ❤ and you will. Soon
Thank you 🙏🏻
First of all, thank you for the great video. I am using 35mm and 85mm in R5C. I am thinking about purchasing the S5M2X and using it together. However, if I use the mc21 adapter like in the video, will the 85mm be stuck on the adapter and not be able to be installed?
Thank you 🙏🏻 yeah, the MC21 sigma adapter doesn’t work with the 85mm but does work with the 35mm and 50mm If you get the MC21 adapter EF - R it might be a different story but I’m not sure. I can imagine it’ll be the same issue.
There's a lot to digest in this video, if you have any question feel fee to drop a comment and I'll try my best to answer if I can. I'm still new to filming anamorphic so if I've missed anything please let me know!
501 now as i just subbed. Great content
Ahh thank you so much! 🙏🏻 loads new videos coming next year so stay tuned
@@jarodparkerdirector Looking forward to it, I have a need to learn how to use my camera lol
Let's start now, what camera do you have? And what do you need to know?
@@jarodparkerdirector Lumix g80 and a couple of lenses (I plan to buy some more and some lights), and tbh, I need to know practically everything, or at least the basics. Ironically filming and editing is what I did my further education in, but everything was analog when I did that. I've turned my camera on a couple of times since owning it and have clicked through the menus but I just seem to make it worse and get further lost each time lol.
That's a great camera to learn the basics for photography and video. I recommend focusing on photography first learning the basics and then adapting that knowledge into video. Research videos explaining these 3 things, aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Go out (day time) and shoot interesting things like animals (something that's moving) not just still trees etc. I learnt nearly everything I know from practically failing and having bad videos. Let me know how that goes!
Sigma 18-35 or a 35 mm prime lens ? Which is good for short film making?
What do you shoot mainly?? 18mm - 35mm is really flexible but a 35mm prime will be great at 35 but you’re limited So all depends what you shoot or looking to shoot??
Now they have f0.9 😭😭😭
What lens now has f0.9? The Samyang or Mieke? I personally think for video f0.9 is too shallow and can be distracting, don’t you think??
@@jarodparkerdirectorI agree and it’s mieke …. I really see no point of having it that low unless you do night time street photography
The problem with all these prosumer lights is there grids are to shallow. One of the reasons for spill light. I do use ND's indoors when I have a widow in the back ground and don't want it blown out. Thats when powerful lights are great to have. With ND cutting window brightness you can crank up light to match exposure.
100% agree, do you use these lights often then?
@@jarodparkerdirector Yes. My main light is a Nanlite Forza 720B. Also have Forza 500 and a couple of Aputure Novas. Don't have any of these mat style lights. Was interested in the Godox Godox KNOWLED F600bi 4 X 4
@RobertJohnPhotography ahh nice, the F600 4x4 is massive by the looks of it. If you have a big enough studio you could just have it up all the time as a key light
The information that you deliver is so on point it’s unreal. Your vids are so engaging and entertaining, 10/10 stars man this is so cool! 🔥
Thank you so much man appreciate it! 🔥
What Lens do you use ?
I use a variety of lenses BUT this video was shot on GreatJoy 35 and 50mm anamorphic lenses, does that answer your question? This is a link to my Sigma 18 - 35mm lens which I often use: th-cam.com/video/0RlioSD9nd8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=45o2fIPeImUrjK0f
would you use this as a main key over your parabolic?
All depends on what you’re shooting?? I think the key word with this light is flexibility! The parabolics do create a really nice soft diffusion on the face, do you get what I mean??
yeh i do see that - i like this light but i am leaning to the standard softbox because of just that. nothing beats the way skin looks. @@jarodparkerdirector
maybe in the future I will get this. for now think im gonna go with the Godox LA150 for price and weight - shooting podcast 2-4 people btw. thanks@@jarodparkerdirector
@saint_wolf I think that’s a good choice, that’s kinda what I did as well. Slowly expand you don’t need the biggest light straight away
Brilliant acting. Good Video. What’s not to love?
All thanks to you my man ❤️
Who here will switch to a light mat after this review? This is my first ever one so I'm very excited to learn new ways to light!
This was incredible! Love this kind of videos 🫡
Thank you Oliver! That means a lot 🥲
Beginner here! This is my First lens for photography. And its working wonders! So mucho light, Very precise and fast.
Yes, great lens especially for beginners! And reasonably priced.
@@jarodparkerdirector Would you recommend another one from sigma for starting in sports photography? Here in Brazil soccer is the main one haha, thinking about starting with that.
Ahh I wish I could but the Sigma 18mm - 35mm is the only Sigma I currently own. If it's sports then I would recommend a longer and faster lens from Sigma.
Hi Jarod. I was thinking of getting the EF-S one for my bmpcc6k pro but a lot of people are saying because of the super 35 sensor that the 18-35 is not really 18-35?
I would say don’t get the EF-S as that mount is even more designed for APS-C sensors (which the BM is not) why don’t you just get the EF mount like I did?? There is probably a slight crop with the Blackmagic sensor but you can see in the video I can still achieve wide results
I think I’m the only person with this setup who finds the lens soft. Using focus assist, I hit focus with the eyes as the focal point, and it doesn’t seem sharp, even with no diffusion. Would love any thoughts if anyone else finds this, or maybe I got a dud lens.
Thank you for the comment! What camera do you use?? The Blackmagic doesn’t support auto focus
@@jarodparkerdirector the Bmpcc 6K G2 has focus assist
Not auto focus it doesn’t
@@jarodparkerdirector I mean it’s a cinema camera so it wouldn’t have AF, but yeh it takes getting used to in manual focus for sure.
You can increase the amount of focus assist you want on screen so maybe go to 30% and not crop the image AND don’t go all the way to f1.8 stay at f2 or f2.3 to stay sharp
Lovely
Thanks buddy
I have a bmpcc 6K and the SIGMS 19-35 lens. So far I like the pair. Thanks for the video and review. What other lens do you recommend for the BMPCC 6K?
Hey Jason, great question! I recommend the Meike 35mm prime lens EF mount BUT it seems you already have a 35mm so maybe the Meike 80mm to really get focal length variety.
I love the lighting design, tone and cinematography!!! thanks for sharing
Ahh thank you Gabriel! Do you work in film??
@@jarodparkerdirector I do. I have moved over from photography to film work. Most projects are internal corp work which is reallllly fun its allowed me the opportunity to use a range of cameras from red, canon and Blackmagic
@GabrielScindian that must be challenging photography to film?? A lot more to think about and a big difference What do you think of the Blackmagic when operating??
@@jarodparkerdirector I've been usning the pocket 4k and 6k as well as the ursa for years. BM cameras have been great to work with. I love that BM creates reliable products with timely powerful updates. The switch from photo to vids was not big at all. I had a camcorder that I kept in hand when I was in school and a nikon f2 film cam that I used to shoot portraits. Natrual and continuous light was my goto. I did not like flash photography to much even though I used it for jobs requiring it. Other cams I use is the C70, R5c and the red epic dragon
