United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 16 ม.ค. 2019
AstroPictionary is a video dictionary of astronomy vocabulary. The video dictionary content is authored by Dr. M. M. Montgomery, who has taught astronomy to over 10,000 students in higher education at a Carnegie R1 (i.e., Very High Research Activity) Doctoral university in the United States. AstroPictionary is a video glossary to Dr. Montgomery's latest textbook, Astronomy Essentials, which is published through TopHat/Morton/Norton/Fountainhead Press at tophat.com/marketplace/science-&-math/-/full-course/astronomy-essentials/4335/

Precession is anti clockwise right?
Super cool Thankyou!
How come this happens? Does the Moon pull the Earth in a certain direction, or is it something else like the result of a collision?
Yes, it is a pull (of Moon and Sun) on the oblate Earth; Earth has a bulge and the pull on the side of the Earth that has the bulge is different than the pull on the opposite side, resulting in net pull that causes Earth to wobble.
so what is the difference between Periapsis and pericenter
Periapsis is closest distance to body it orbits whereas pericenter is closest to center of gravity. Mercury orbits Sun and when Mercury is closest, that distance is periapsis; however, the Sun is so massive compared to Mercury that the center of gravity lies within the Sun and the distance of Mercury to that center of gravity point is pericenter. Good question!
Periapsis is described here th-cam.com/video/BzZF7ZF8HyU/w-d-xo.html and pericenter is described here th-cam.com/video/5-AN9AhAuls/w-d-xo.html
Thanks!
how can i calculate it in a natal chart? i dont find the way?
No no .We don't know english. So speak in hundi only.
I have it here, can you take a look?
You would need to find a local university that studies geology.
How does the formula change if the object is not at an infinite distance but at a well-defined distance "s"? Thank you
Word one! Very good, actually that was two words. 🤓 Great that you mentioned the barycentre, but would you like to discuss this centrifugal or centripetal force? The tidal force acts from the *centre of the Earth* outwards in a direction pointing towards and away from the Moon.
This was SO helpful!! Thank you so much! I was looking for a quick definition/overview of Electron Degeneracy Pressure, and everything I found went into great detail about quantum mechanics and all of these other limits and principles surrounding it! Until I found your fantastically informative 4-minute video! So, again, THANK YOU!
Is this an absorption Band spectrum?
In a white dwarf, you have ionized atoms or neutral atoms or both? If it is ionized, then there exists an "electron gas"? Does that have a degeneracy pressure? How is electron degeneracy pressure different from the electric repulsion between atoms in close proximity?
So crystals are all igneous?
Great video ❤❤❤
Thank you
yep
Didn't know about SPEs at all, so thank you again.
Didn't know _these_ are the spicules I read about decades ago.
Thanks for the sequel.
Thank you!

How to find out the star in the picture is 10x brighter than the sun. Do we use ms Paints eyedropper tool for that?
In this example, we are given this information as part of the problem. You can also just pick a star on the diagram and read off the luminosity (which is listed relative to the Sun's luminosity) from the y-axis.

I like ur videos so much
Thank you very much!
Thank you! If a distant galaxy say 2 billion light-years away seen through the Hubble, appreaed in the Hubble lens to be visible moving transversly at say 1 km per hour across the lens view, would we know how fast the galaxy was moving in reality? Or if Mars started moving in the sky 1 km per hour transversly...? Thank you so much... Great video!!
No, you would not, as you need to know the speeds in three directions (toward/away, up/down, left/right) to know the true spatial direction. Thanks for the kudos!

Sweet Ive been wondering for a while if there was a word for this
If we hate math can we learn everything about astronomy through qualitative reasoning.
Wait isn’t one mega per second equals 3.09x 10^19? Also the universe supposed to be 13.6 billion years old
great
Do you observe how magnetic field and EM radiation strength are affected as ergosphere radius up?
No, I don't observe this :( but, I'm sure someone else might as their research field.
Thanks miss this was helpful!
Newage physics should take into account very strange principles of the unified field
All hypotheses have to be vetted by the scientific method; eventually things bubble up and work their way in :D you just need patience :D
What's the difference between redshift and high redshift , cause you have used two different formulas , one is v/c=z and another is this one
one is for objects nearby and one is for objects very far away; if you want more info, see the textbook, which explains it :D
@@astropictionary3988 ok , thank you very much,.
How can you exactly generated light with a certain wavelength? What happens if the foton has just just a bit more energy? Will the electron still jumper and where is the tiny diff in required energy going?
Think of you climbing stairs; you have a lot of stored energy; your body just uses what it needs to go up one stair and uses some of the excess energy to release as heat or other energy. Same thing with electrons. When you go down stairs, you release energy and only the amount needed to go down the stairs; same thing with electrons. Why no read the textbook; it will help you with these question :D
Thanks for the video :)
You are welcome!
Where are the values coming from?
Good question. As stated and shown in the video, the values are observed: Astronomers observe data and use data in data analysis, such as this calculation.
thank u my legend
Awww, gee, thanks!
Best explanation ever👏
Thank you!
this helped me
Great! I'm so pleased. Thanks!
Thank you for explaining the local meridian. 1- Where on this diagram is the GP of the Celestial body the observer is measuring with their altitude angle? 2- Is an altitude angle measured by the observer geometric or apparent based on the observer’s field of view?
Geographic Position or Longitude and Latitude do3s not matter in the Local system. It is your GP where you stand on Earth that you base your local system from.
@@astropictionary3988 Both the observer and the geographic position are on the surface of Earth. A flat baseline from the observer to the GP on the surface of Earth geometrically proves a flat Earth and disqualifies a globe. Please search solar angles in google and go through the images and say “ding” each time you see a triangle with a flat baseline.
Isnt the larger the mass the larger the Roche lobe?
Roche lobe depends on mass ratio or ratio of masses in a binary star system. You have to read the textbook.

Will a blue dwarf eventually direcly become a black dwarf ? Or will a blue dwarf first become a white dwarf, and then that white dwarf will become a black dwarf ?
Good question. You'll have to read the Astronomy Essentials textbook as the answer is too long to explain. White dwarfs are expected to die into black dwarfs but not blue dwarfs.
