Thank you for presenting this very thoughtful and well researched project. I especially appreciate your tagging of levels of tensions, such as the many who desire and do travel from Armenia to Turkey, but with the understanding that many who do not go feel such travel is morally transgressive as it gives economic support to a State that not only has a genocidal history but denies and erases its past. Among other things that you brought up, I was intrigued by how remains of the past (such as stones, often with Armenian inscriptions, that are used to build local houses or even fences) are actively searched for by travelers who, on finding them, make them, by their actions and reverence, into holy markers of their once and even continuing presence in those spaces. Wonderful! Carel Bertram

Falsifiers, between 1914-11918 there were more than 4 million Turks who perished in present-day Turkey alone, on the Armenian side there were 150 thousand who lost their lives, but multiplied tenfold by propaganda, historical truth written in the archives speaks of 300 thousand Armenians deported by the Ottoman army and 200 thousand left in the Russian Caucasus after the Armenian militias under the protection of Russian forces in Eastern Turkey committed atrocious massacres burning villages and razing to the ground the towns of the local population to empty the land of its inhabitants and let an Armenian minority build a state at the expense of the Turkish-speaking and Kurdish majority, but unfortunately the Russian forces withdrew to Russia and the survivors of the massacres committed by the Armenians were wanted revenge for their deaths and the Ottoman army was forced to deport the Armenian inhabitants to protect their lives, the archive of history is transparent.

Criminals the genocide took place against the Azerbaijanis of Karabakh between 1988 and 1992, at the end of the Soviet Union, the Azerbaijan state was disarmed, Armenia expelled 300 thousand Azeri citizens of Armenia, in addition Armenia invaded Azerbaijan by colonizing 7 Azerbaijani provinces plus Karabakh, massacring 30 thousand Azerbaijani citizens and provoking 750 thousand refugees, destroying entire cities from the face of the Earth and hundreds of villages, not a single Azeri citizen remained neither in Armenia nor in the Azerbaijani territories occupied by Armenia, etc. No one in the West raised their voice at the time. No one even called the occupier by his real name. This is why the voices currently being raised in the West have no value, no Western country has addressed the subject. After 28 years Azerbaijan built its army and liberated its lands conquered by the Armenian executioners and now the West is shedding crocodile tears propagating that these Armenians are victims, it is shameful, hypocrisy and double standards , two measures is the policy that the West is pursuing against those who do not respect it.

I lost all of my info stored on a Seagate Free Agent, hard drive due to magnetic head degradation after I stored them in a plastic container in a closet for 6 years. I lost many digitized photos and over 10,000 mp3s I had collected. I just purchased an external burner with C and M discs (100-1000 years integrity) but what system do I have to have to be able to read those disks is the problem say a decade from now? The hard drive in that system will be corrupted. The only solution is to keep buying a new hdd and ssd, laptop or tablet every 3-5 years. Both the HDD and SSD will degrade over 3 to 5 years if stored and not used (plugged in an refreshed/re-copied). Opening the files every year is a great tip, I will do that. The CD may only last 20 to 25 years but the HDD and SSD are even less reliable for long term preservation, the company I work for makes SSDs, they want you to buy more of them so there is no interest in having it last more than 3-5 years which is our warranty. With online storage, it could be hacked, the storage employees have access to the data, a court may subpoena the information so it is less secure. What I am looking for is a self contained digital solution. If we could make an electro-mechanical storage solution so we could read our files for decades that would be great. Do you know of any on premise (no internet or cloud needed) software we can used that use to run a digital copy and refresh and set it up annually with some type of schedule to replace the reading system (computer, tablet, laptop, etc) to avoid ferro magnetic degradation or just plain old mechanical wear and tear? Some of my old techie friends have set up a Raid Server for their data so it auto copies to another drive but eventually the drive and the server itself, the software will need to be replaced. What even worse is that I can't buy a spare hard drive and put it away because it will degrade over time if not used....just thinking out loud a great piece,

I think many of the issues you raise indicate the need for a multi-pronged approach. For instance, while HDDs may not be suitable for "cold" storage, Blu-ray and M-Discs may meet your needs instead. With those, however, there's concern about long-term access, as you also need the equipment to be able to read the discs. That equipment is still widely available, but there's no guarantee that will remain the case in the future. HDDs are useful for regular backups but, as you've already figured out, they probably shouldn't be stored away for years at a time, and despite their improved reliability, mechanical failure remains a plausible risk. There's basically no ideal storage solution for digital data. You have to utilise what's available to you and take into account the strengths and limitations of the storage medium(s) you are using. Where possible, this may mean creating multiple copies in different mediums, and then storing each medium in an environment that is likely to ensure its preservation in the long-term. My takeaway from Cassandra's talk is that this should be seen as an active process. We can't assume that any storage medium is going to provide in itself the solution to our archiving needs. Along with evaluating what we want to preserve, we need to evaluate (and reevaluate) how we preserve it as new technologies emerge and as archival practices evolve.

The Earth is cooler with the atmos/GHGs/albedo not warmer. To perform as advertised the GHGs require “extra” energy upwelling from the surface radiating as a black body. The kinetic heat transfer processes of the contiguous atmos molecules render that scenario impossible. No greenhouse effect, no GHG warming, no man/CO2 driven climate change or Gorebal warming. 1] DRY TIMBER, 2] SPARK, 3] FAVOURABLE WEATHER. Professor Bergen, in the case of the Armenian Genocide did all these three exist? If not, what were they substituted with to have such a devastating outcome, that the survivors and their children today still have not been able to recover from the trauma? Thank you to the organisers for this webinar, recording and posting. I just came across this webinar today July 14, 2021. The webinar provided insights and answers to my personal perplexing thoughts and anxieties on current "US-China geopolitical competition" and "increasing geopolitical tensions involving the Chinese speaking world, and the challenges that the US-China rivalry and geopolitical competition have created for diasporic Chinese" quoting Prof. Ming Zhou here. Coming from Canada (and in the same city as Zoryan Institute), these thoughts have been percolating through my mind the last few years before the outbreak of Covid-19 and its spread throughout the world (including North America) in late 2019 to early 2020 or so to North America. As several cities across Canada are substantial population centres of the Chinese diaspora from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong (and not to leave out Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, etc. reflecting the wide diversity) - the on-going protests and political crisis in Hong Kong since 2014 (with the early Occupy protests), escalating US-China trade and tech "war", and ongoing ebb and flow of China-Taiwan political relations as widely reported here - are all issues of the day to day inhabiting my mind. Going through the webinar recording, my take away is what/how do I re-envision/figure out my future Chinese Canada while considering the challenges for diasporic Chinese i.e. collaboration or competition in Canada-China relations; and the issue of Chinese/East Asian Canadian belonging (in politics, social and culture). These are framework word thoughts gleamed/gained/borrowed from Prof. Ming Zhou's presentation slides of talking points. Now having missed the actual webinar by many months, a question (or rather a statement) i could have had for the Q&A is as Prof. Ming Zhou has perceptively stated that the Chinese Americans (diverse as they are in terms of places of origin) can be in politics neocons, nationalists or progressives ---- I came to realize that the Chinese American WANG Dan was in support of Donald Trump for re-election as president. I was surprised and shocked. For over the years, least twice I have heard WANG Dan in person spoke in my city for vocal democratic changes in China. Yet he supported an undemocratic Trump for president.

Kürt/Türk/Devlet Sorunun Çözümü = Kürt/Etnik kimliğin anayasada olması, Demokratik Bölge yapılanması, Özgürlükçü demokrasi, Anadil eğitim/Çokkültürlü yaşam.. Ulus/üniter devlet demokrasinin gelişememesi (otoriter rejim, darbe/vesayet, çeteler, siyasi İslamcılık, etnik/ırkçı milliyetçilik, bozuk yapı vs), Kürtlerin/Alevilerin/diğer azınlık halkların etnik ve dini haklarının anayasada olmayıp ötekileştirilmesi/ırkçılık yapılması (kapılarının işaretlenmesi/sizden bizden vs), düşünce/ifade/medya/inanç özgürlüğünün olmaması (başkana hakaret/tweet atma suçu vs), insan haklarının olmaması (AİHM'de en çok ceza alan 1. ülke Türkiye), hukukun üstünlüğü/adaletin/güçler ayrılığı olmaması, başkan'ın bütün güç'e sahip olmasi/meclis/anayasa dinlememesi (Boğaziçi/kayyumlar), devletin şeffaf ve denetlenebilir olmaması, kötü yönetim/anayasal krizler olması (feto krizi/darbesi), seçimlerde oy için söz verilip tutulmaması, halka/meclise sorulmadan anayasa yapılması/yönetilmesi (Kurtuluş savaşı 16 bin şehit), demokratik reform yerine orduya yatırım yapılması, yolsuzlukların araştırılmamasi (B.Yıldırım €200m, yandaş 6 ihale holdingleri, $128 mlr, Malta hesapları vs), kadın ölüm/tecavüzleri/haklarının olmaması, TCK'nin/terör hukukunun yenilenmemesi, delilsiz gözaltıların çok/uzun olması (Demirtaş, Kavala, biat etmeyen 125,000, taş atan 4,000 etnik Kürt çocuk vs), sınırsız/orantısız güç kullanılması (tecavüz, işkence, kaza süsü, infaz vs), yandaş suçluların hiç/az ceza alması, nüfus sayımınin etnik/dini bilgi içermemesi, ırkçılık kanununun millete öğretilememesi, etnik ayrımcılık yasasının olmaması, nefret suçunun bilinmemesi/uygulanmaması, bölge parti/meclis temsilcinin yasak olması, idari bölge yönetimlerin olmayıp (gelişmiş devletlerde ki gibi) hâlâ Kürt ve Alevi köylerine ırkçılık yapılarak gecinememeleri (yol yapılmaması vs), devlet bütçesinin 90% marmara/ege/akdeniz/iç anadolu bölgelere ayırıp doğuya en az yatırım yapılması, yıllık bütçenin çoğunun diyanet işlerine verilip (10 bakanlığın toplamından fazla) Kültür evlerine verilmemesi, torpille/Akp/Mhpli olma zorunluluğu işe alımlarda, haksız işten atılma/işsizliğin en çok doğu/Kürt bölgesinde olması, bölgenin ekonomisinin komşu ülkelerle yasaklanması, kayıt dışı/vergi kaçırmanın çok olması, devletin/hükümetin savurganlığı, çevre katliamı, devletin mafya/uyuşturucuyla uğraşması, Alevi/Hristiyan vatandaşlardan vergi alip köylerine zorla cami yapmalari/4+4+4 zorunlu eğitimle İslam dini öğretilmesi, modern eğitim/Kürtçe eğitim olmaması (kanun/müfredat var, uygulama yok), 81 valinin hiçbirinin/kamu sektörün/askeri üst makamların %90'nın etnik Kürt/Alevi olmaması (olanların İslamcı olması), etnik Yörük Türkmen Alevi Atatürkten başka Alevi cumhurbaşkanı veya padişahı olmaması, Cem evi/kiliselere finansal yardım yapılmaması/saldırılmasi/ibadet hane görülmemesi, tarih kitabinda Kürt yazmaması, mahkemelerde vs 'bilinmeyen dil' yapılması, empati için 1000 yıllık kardeşlik tarihinde 10 kelime Kürtçe bilinmemesi (selam/slav, nasilsin/tu çawa yi, iyi/başe), dünyada Türk/Arap Müslümanlarla empati/yardım yapıp Kürde/Aleviye/Hristiyana yapılmaması, Türk/Avşar/Çerkez/Türkmen/Arap tabela ve soyadları olup Kürt'ün olmaması, seçim barajının bilerek yüksek tutulması, Turklestirme/Islamlastirma yüzünden büyük şehirlere/yurtdışına zorunlu göç, atanan öğretmen/belediye başkanı/vali yerine bölge halkının seçtiği üyeleri görmek istemeleri, etnik Kürt illerinde asimilasyon için 4-5 büyük aileye para verilmesi, Öcalan'a tecritin (anayasaya aykırı) son bulmamasi vs isyan nedenlerindendir. PKK, Feto, İşid'i devlet kurup büyütmüştür. Milli devlet politikalari her il'e bölgeye aynı uygulanmamali, Edirne ile Van'in sorunları ayrıdır.

Take a bow Cassandra Tavukciyan. You delivered an exceptionally useful webinar. You scrunch complex topics into actionable essential guidance. Your slides are concise and clear. I'm commenting as someone who has been a digital archivist since 1983 and a specialist in document management especially for template contracts. As a lawyer I curate 22GB of documents which include about 4,000 legal template agreements I have personally drafted, update and re-use. As a student of other subjects I curate 15,000 non-personal photos, 15,268 music files, and a growing collection of historical film/video footage. I place considerable emphasis on the quality of naming conventions and metadata, topics covered by Cassandra. Like other topics each could be a half hour webinar on their own.

How funny that nobody ever mentioned Holodomor before the Ukraine broke with Russia. Even funnier that famines occured every 20-30 years in the Russian Empire, and Holodomor was the last of them. Oh those dirty commies, how bad they should feel for ending systematic starvations.
