Easy to clean. Lol My penman is 11yrs old. Never took care of it, cleaned it and abused the shit out it. It seriously looks better today than 11yrs ago.

Was rabbit felt not an option? If so, why opt for beaver instead of rabbit, like the ones in the film?
Beaver is more durable and responds better to harsher weather. A good rabbit felt can still be durable but needs a bit more looking after.
Does anybody know a good tutorial for shaping these well? I’ve watched the Herbert Johnson vids and it seems to be easy enough but I’m wondering if there’s any nuances to know as a beginner and not a pro or a hatter

How durable is this hat?
Water resistant to a point. Not 100% water proof. Any felt hat will start to lose its shape if it gets wet enough for long enough.
Matthew Sinclair It’s as water resistant as a hat can be. I’ve been in a few monsoons for 30-45 mins and the water has never penetrated.

Brandon Vaughn I think it’s going to last for decades. I’ve had it for almost a year now. Still in top condition after days in the rain, heat, and snow. Just take care of it. Brush it and keep it on a stand. I believe Mike has increased price to $325.

Martina Dejaquiz Considering most other Custom 100% Beaver felt hats can cost $500-$750, this is a really good deal. Also, I’ve worn it on many adventures for the past 6 months and it is fantastic.
well, it's a very nice hat. nice looking hat. i don't know about the prices on these kinds of hats. however i do know about the prices of quality australian and usa. western hats. i have seen a figure of $500-$750 for this type of hat from the place in england that originally made the hats for the movies. no way 500-750 .. zero way at all even if i were the queen of england and i also just hit the lottery 3 times in a row. $150 an authentic top quality Akubra can be ordered directly from australia and shipped to the usa and that already includes shipping, taxes and tarrifs. $200 buys a top quality (not best but VG) stetson in texas (depends where you buy it). custom hat maker in fort worth texas will make this hat from quality beaver for $200. $275 isn't completely horrible, but it's a bit steep in my opinion. however, i respect your opinion too and i did thumb up this video. $275 is a lot of money for a hat.. maybe not to some, but it is too me and that's not because i don't have it. i want to pay what's earnest.
Martina Dejaquiz I own an Akubra myself. It is nice, but nowhere near the quality of his hat. My philosophy is, save up and buy something that will last a lifetime, rather than several sub par hats over the years. Take my advice however you want though.
Well, I have a hat that's $850. $275 is nothing
strongyang: well, $850 of course is a choice. fine with me whoever wants to pay that. sometimes people buy things to last a lifetime and they don't for many reasons and for many unforeseen reasons, too. however, like i said carry-on i'm in support of ya since that's what ya wanna do. i guess it's also what one considers to be sub par, too. $850 is a lot of money to me.
Great lid, I think based on the Poet; but made iconic by Lucas franchise. The beaver felt looks very pliable.

Lash Kidd I got it from Magnoli Clothiers. It’s fantastic! Needs some conditioning with Saddle Soap or other leather conditioner just like all whips do.
